A Device for the Obsessive-Compulsive

My Dymo LetraTAG QX50If you’ve been branded by your friends as being OC more times than you’d care for, then a labeler is definitely going to be your kind of gadget.
I just bought myself a Dymo LetraTAG QX50 labeler. It’s a simple device that allows you to make labels for all of your worldly possessions. I was actually choosing between the Dymo and units from Casio and Brother, but the QX50 eventually won out, and I’ll tell you why in a while. Back when I was still a kid, I remember playing with a Dymo mechanical labeler, clicking away and snapping out strips of plastic with my name embossed on it. Punching out letters using brute force was a feat in itself, and I think that that device single-handedly increased my grip strength. While such mechanical labelers are still on the market, the modern labeler is a more updated digital device that works like a mini electric typewriter. Slip in your tape cartridge, type out the text for your label, select size and style, press PRINT, and out comes your waterproof, outdoor-proof, 12mm.-wide label. And unlike mechanical labelers that require brute force in order to cut the tape, the electronic version just requires a light press of a Scissor button to slice your label off. You can print out large one-line labels, or go for the finer font which allows for 2 lines. The Dymo LetraTAG cassettes I boughtThe QX50 has a one-line display, so you’d have to scroll a bit in order to preview long labels, but I did not find this to be a problem. It comes with a cursor pad and a thumbboard-like keypad, albeit with comfortable spacing between the keys. Oh, and unlike your typical gadget, you'll have to read the manual for this. Many of the button icons won't make sense until you do so, and you wouldn't want to waste too much of your pricey labeling tapes on experiments now, would you? Here’s what made me choose the QX50 over other labelers: National Bookstore stocks a lot of tape cartridges for it… including transparent tape and iron-on fabric labels. Yes, iron-on fabric labels! This last one is what really sold me, because I’ve always had dreams of cataloging my wardrobe (with each shirt, pants et al having its own serial number) so that I can keep track of what I’ve worn each and every day, know when I bought it, and when I should, uh, retire a certain pair of undies. My notebook duly labeled using clear tapeIn the meantime, to paraphrase the Eraserheads, I’ve turned sticker-happy. The QX-50 comes with plain white labeling tape, so I also bought metallic gray, transparent tape, and iron-on fabric. I’ve been labeling everything I can possibly think of labeling, and I’m sure I can finish off an entire tape (price ranges from Php 280.00 for the metallic to Php378.00 for transparent) in a single day. In practice, however, 4 meters of tape goes a long way. I was able to churn out enough labels to catalog all our nails and screws and the tape still looked pretty full. Note however that you'll only get 2 meters for the iron-on variety. The Dymo LetraTAG QX50 is Php 1,950.00 at National Bookstore and, for people with obsessive-compulsive disorder like me, may be worth every centavo.

"when I should, uh, retire a certain pair of undies"

That's a very disturbing thought...

hopefully it doesn't use the film type tape. They get smudged and dirtied in no-time flat.

I have one that can also write chinese characters but uses a film-type tape and needs SIX (6) AA batteries!!!

They're nice but I'd rather label them with Post-Its and Ballpen ink.

Trust me. He has gives a new meaning to the term "obssesive-compulsive". :)

I've been torture-testing the labels and, well, so far so good. They're wipeable so they resist smudges pretty well. At least the plastic and clear labels do. I'm sure the paper labels (which come stock with the unit) would be smudge city. :)

Heheh. Not as disturbing as wearing the same pair of undies for years and years... ;)

wow! i'd like to have one of those. hmm.. label to death, that's great! hehe. talk about being an OC. : ) btw, is it easy-to-use? i mean, what if you're not that familiar in using a dymo?

ggirl: is it easy-to-use? i mean, what if you’re not that familiar in using a dymo?

It's pretty easy to use! You only need to consult the manual to find out exactly how the "feel" of the functions such as Size, Style, Length and Feed goes, but once you've done that, you can pretty much dispose of the manual. Oh, and I had to consult it to see how to access the special characters, and that's that :)

OH MY GAWD!!! im so happy! just when i thought dymo is totally out of people's memories, they come up with an high-tech version! but i think it's pretty expensive considering i don't have a more regular use for it anymore (like when im still in school sana)... oh well, we never know! considering how OC me and my girlfriend are, im sure we'll find lots of use for it para sulit bumili! heehee! =)

often (but not necessarily) a Second Mortgage, that allows flexibility to the mortgage holder by allowing them access to the accumulated equity they have in the house in the form of money without mortgage rates today. A HELOC operates in a similar way to a bank overdraft – you can withdraw from it (up to an agreed) simply and you are only charged interest on the total used if you don't use it you arent charged a cent. This is a great way to release the equity you have in your home and use it for what you require at the moment. due to the fact that you're only charged interest on the amount you use, it means you can quickly repay anything you use if you have the means to do so.
