Ok, my 15 minutes of fame as one of the few iPod shuffle owners in the country has officially been extended by a week or so (the time it’s gonna take for the iPod shuffle units destined for local stores to arrive), and I thought I’d share some more observations from a week’s worth of using Apple’s new, flash-based music player.
Less is more. I’m glad I got only the 512MB version. No, really. 120 songs played in random is enough to tide me over for a few days before I need to refresh the list. I have a small library (just over a thousand songs), and only about a third of that can make it to my “favorites

How's the battery life? Have you tested how long it lasts between the time its fully charged (as if you'd know), till the time it "dies"?
Excellent battery life, but that's from anecdotal experience, personal and otherwise. I have a day job so I really haven't been able to just sit back for 12 hours letting the iPod shuffle play on until it dies. I change the playlist (and thus plug it in to recharge) every three days or so, and I have yet to see the battery indicator show other than a greenlight indicating a good charge every time I use it. I use it for a total of maybe six to ten hours every three days.
For what it's worth, those who have had the luxury of just listening to the iPod shuffle until the battery dies say that it even exceeds Apple's claims: 14 to 17 hours based on actual tests.
Random being awesome: Tip #1
You could always keep trash on your iTunes (even Podcasts). The trick here is making Smart Playlists.
For example:
I've already prepared my iTunes (for the coming of my shuffle) by making Smart Playlists like segregating all the AAC "only" songs per genre/album/artist from my low quality MP3s. After doing that, you could now select which Smart Playlist goes in to your shuffle (with the help of AutoFill ofcourse and depending on your mood for the day). Do remember that "Rainy Days And Mondays" will not be the same as "Friday I'm In Love". ;)

Yeah, managed to get a hold of an iPod Shuffle 1GB when release in Australia. Now they're are still hard to find even after 2 weeks.
Anyway its worth every penny. Simple and cheap.
I can relate to that Random songs. I thought it was playing the faves all the time
