6170: Your owner jeep, your phone

I just don’t get it. There’s nothing really great about this phone!!

But I can’t help but take it out of my pocket every five minutes, flip it open and watch the sun blind my eyes. Or look for a broom closet, turn off the lights and admire the Nokia 6170’s blue backlight.

stainless steel appeal

Maybe it’s the stainless steel finish. Maybe it’s the clamshell design. Maybe it’s a straightforward phone with no extenders save the 0.3MP VGA camera. Or maybe it just sooo resembles the beautiful Motorola V3 Razr, with that more than familiar Nokia interface.

I don’t know about you, but when I took this baby out for a spin, it had more appeal than your stainless steel owner jeep. Watch out for the full review in upcoming issues of m|ph.

Well at least it has the external LCD. What were they thinking when they made the 6260?
The great thing about digital cellphones is the caller ID. What was the use of that when your forced to answer the phone just in case you missed an emergency call only to find out it was the weirdo you were avoiding who already knows you picked up. They could have gone the extra mile and made it a megapixel camera instead of good ol VGA. Sheesh!

Whoa! A cellphone in “full-metal-jacket”? Does it integrate with your iBook?

Were it not for its lack of Bluetooth (I have a love-hate relationship with BT, but still I want it), I really would have considered this phone. I loved its form factor and its economical layout. It’s not as bulky as the complete-but-humongous 6260, not as chubby as the 6630, and nowhere near as eye-straining as the art deco 7270.

But still no Bluetooth. So in my books, the 6230 is still the most economically complete Nokia in the market today.

the lack of bluetooth is what will make me not buy this phone. sayang!

of course, there are people who dont really give a hoot about BT so this is the phone for them.

kinny: very OT but i need skin care tips! (since you do the INQ beauty column?)
