I don’t think the V66 has either. Unfortunately, like IR, Bluetooth is hardware rather than software. So you cannot just install this in the phone.

The V66 does come with USB support though, so you can connect it to your PC to upload or download media files. It also comes with PC Sync software.

I can only say that this phone is great except for connectivity options (no bluetooth, IR). When u turn off da phone, it functions as a flash drive(2 drives - the phone memory and external memory). Synchronizing to a pc is easy. U just need the usb cable then ur done. Can also charge the phone direct to pc. The resolution is 262,000 colors. The mp3 is great. The camera is great too but nokia’s camera is still the best. The video recorder is unlimited and is much clearer and bigger than nokia. Im saying this coz I swapped my Nokia6260 w/ the AsusV66 coz for me, its one of the best phones w/ mp3 capability. Better than a Smart Amazing Phone and Nokia’s mp3 phones coz a lot of nokia phone’s speaker/earphone are only mono. This one is stereo so the sound is really great. Much louder than the K700. U wont regret it coz its actual price is P9,900.00 only w/ 1 year warranty.

Added comment:

*Built-in memory is 60MB.
*My external memory is 256MB.
*Functions as a flash drive (60MB + 256MB) when turned off).
*U can also type sms messages direct to pc while ur phone is connected. No need to use the phone’s keypad. Use the keyboard instead.
*3 built-in games and 3 java games. U can also try installing other java softwares.
*The earphone is cool. Looks great.
*4X zoom.
*W/ other cool features.

what’s the maximum number of songs that can be stored on the phone up to how many mb is the memory expandable?

1gb according to asus. Im using 256mb only. The songs depends on how it was converted. Good quality mp3 are usually 3mb+ per song. But there are softwares that can convert it to only 1mb. So if ur using a 256mb expandable memory, u can save atleast a hundred songs if the size of the songs ur saving are less than 1mb. And less than a hundred if 3mb+ per song. My mp3s are of good quality. Usually 190+ bit rate per song so its 4mb. If ur planning to buy it, u can try buying it w/o an expandable memory coz its 60mb built-in memory is already enough for saving ringtones, videos(3gp) and images.

U can later buy a 512mb or 1gb(don’t know if we already have it here in the phils) if ur into mp3 music. Instead of buying a 256mb(P1800), try to save ur money to buy a 512mb memory(P3200).

how about the pic quality, do you have any samples to preview, or sites that we can check out?
how the screen backlights? is it good?
and the themes that you can download is it the same with NOKIA and ERICSSON? is it .htm and for games is it .jar?

yung pix quality ok naman kso weakness ng fone na ito ang dilim,wala kasing flash ito,bali mas malinaw pix nito sa 6600 tsaka napaka raming settings nito pag sa camera at video,yung backlight eh sobrang liwanag,ito na atang cellphone ang pinaka maliwanag,yung themes 3 lang,d ko lam kung upgradable yung themes or not,yung games nito java rin(.jar)

Ung video nya mas maganda kaysa sa nokia 6600 at 6260. Mas malaki sya ng konti at mas malinaw pag nagpreview ka sa pc. Even if u will zoom 4x on an object, malinaw pa rin. di tulad ng nokia na 2x na nga lng ang zoom, mapixel pa. cool ang video nito at unlimited. di ko pa natry mag-install ng mga softwares. music player ang best feature nito. i bought a converter so i can use a creative 2.1 speaker. ang ganda ng quality ng music.

i agree with tiradorsky. asus v66 is the best phone pound for pound. for P9,980.00 u get all the cool functions. plus a memory card slot which is very important for mp3 and 3gp files. to store all of the current top tunes and sex scandals he he he. i bot a 512 mb memory card with this phone.

One of the best features of this phone is the USB port. i can convert my .wmv and.avi files using a nokia multi media converter into 3gp files and upload them into my phone. really cool. i downloaded some java games like chess, tetris, etc. i think only twelve games/appications can be installed at the same time. but you can save all the java installer into your phone.

its a great phone but it can still get better if there is a picture viewer that can zoom in on images taken

try this site lots of games and applications for your phone. some maybe demo only but some are full version. look for pacman and full metal. you will appreciate more the great color quality of your phone when you play these games. one more thing download the .jar to your pc. then transfer it to your phone via usb MASS DATA STORAGE not the Data Communications because it will take you so Looooooooooooong to transfer the files. After transfering the files, to your phone. turn on your phone, look for the location of the saved .jar file (prefarably create a folder for them) then hightlight the .jar file then higlight install. once the installation is a success. go to media center then java you will find the new game and ready for playing. happy downloading. happy playing. happy new year too

ei, i have a problem about V66 video, why is it that my videos are not file supported, how can i view it in the handset manager????? are there other ways because i really dont know what to do……

for miss teenangel, perhaps your computer does not have a software that supports 3gp files. so i suggest download a real media player or nokia multi media player. send your feedback so i can suggest other alternatives.

Hi everyone! Can someone tell me how to turn off the predictive texting feature of the V66? The ABC input function does not allow the same texting manner as in nokia fones in which after a period, the first letter is automatically in upper case while the succeding letters are all in lower case. Plus, is there a way to add other special symbols on the fone? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That’s one of my problems too. Its so hard to type on your phone coz u need to switch between the uppercase and lowercase to create a message. Nokia phones automatically capitalizes the next letter after the period but not on this phone. I don’t know if there’s a way to do it but if u really like to create messages in a very easy way, try connecting ur phone (turned on) to a pc and use the keyboard instead to create instant messages. It’s so easy to create message when ur phone is synch to a pc. But u need to install the provided software to use this feature.

Err, maybe an update of somekind in the future? (i wish) nonetheless.. kick a** fone btw. I just had it for 3 days and already I can’t keep my hands of it! Sound quality of the mp3 player is superb!

hello to all,
got hold of this V66 for a week now. all ur good comments on this fone are all true. this is really a good buy not good bye hehehehe. cool features in a reasonable price.
just one thing that bothers me is the beep sound after deleting mesages or after sending a message. it is too loud! and it still beeps even on silent mode. so when i’m using myheadset, it really is so annoying and a pain in the ear.
is there anyone here knows how to turn if off or just lower its volume?

Try Wellcom at festival mall. That’s where I got mine. As for support, they are pretty much equiped as the man told me. Not too sure about the casing though if they have it in stock. Hey, I was wondering where I could purchase a Stereo Converter so that I can plug in standard earphones in the jack? thanks!

Di ka manghihinayang ksi para k nang bumili ng mp4 player na may phone at camera pa. Just 10k, sulit na sulit na. Madami ang naghahanap ng phone na ito ksi nga best buy sa price na less than 10k. Kung bibili ka, sa wellcom or other cell shops na nagaalok ng 1year warranty. Di ka matatakot ksi may warranty. Try mo pre, di ka magsisisi.

Try mo i-off ung cell mo pag nagtatransfer ka sa pc. ksi ang ginagamit mong paraan ay ung synchonization to pc. try to use the mass storage device option para magcopy at magtransfer sa pc mo. mas mabilis un. wag k gumamit ng handset manager kung copying and transfering files lng ksi matagal tlaga un. khit isang simple image, ilang minutes ang katumbas. natry ko na rin ksi un.

Pwede kng gumamit ng wav at mp3 for ur ringtone pro ung sms tone hindi pwede palitan. ung default lng ang pwede pra sa sms. kung ako ang tatanungin, asus ang choice ko over sap2. nagkasap1 na ksi ako. dati ksi kming SAP users pro nagsawa ako sa sap. maganda ang sap2 pro madaling masira ang joystick nya. malinaw ang video ng sap2 kya lng mabagal. mas mabilis ang sa asus. ung motorolla, di ko alam. di pa ko nakagamit nun.

Use Mass Storage instead of COM Port connection (if you’re not already doing it).

shining_gundam: you are using the handset manager to transfer mp3 files kaya umabot ng 15 minutes. what you do is when you plug your USB to the PC is you select the the opition number one MASS STORAGE . then go to to windows explorer and you can transfer your files from there. it only takes seconds to transfer a song. hope this helps

im a sun/m303 user, and ive literally spent the whole night configuring my fone. everything paid off naman since i got it working. i fixed everything manually, as in pati yung ip ad, manual ang input. i havent tried with the other networks though, pero with sun, nakakapag receive and send naman ako ng mms ng maayos (without the downloading msg thing), and nakaka surf ako i havent tried downloading thru gprs yet though. anyway, if you want detailed instructions, let me know. id be more than willing to help

Can anyone tell me what settings they use in the 3gp converter to get the best video quality for the fone? I always get the “invalid file format” error thing even though the file was encoded in 3gp format.

-Same here with Screensaver turned ON. No Enter key function for Menu.
-Same blank screen. Though, I would wan’t the SE K508i clock function very visible in standby mode.
-If you’ve set the Time Format to 12 (Phone Setting>Date/Time>Set Format) it should be fine with AM and PM. Sorry, I’m not experiencing your problem.

The 3GP video should be encoded with MPEG4 or H263 codec. I’m having no problem with using XiliSoft 3GP Video Converter. Since, the Handset Manager takes too long to convert and transfer video files to the phone.

Package content: unit, charger, USB cable, headset, CD (driver, Handset Manager, Muvee Producer), and manuals. Optional is a miniSD. I bought a second hand 128MB miniSD for P700. KODAK sells a 128MB miniSD for P1500. I found someone selling 128MB for P1000 and 256MB for about P1250.

Ois! Promo… Too late na ako.

DietMP3 (free for up to 15 files nga lang). Yes, only 3GP files encoded in either MPEG4 or h263. Tried raw MPEG4, it displayed an error.

JAVA installation: see no. 16 by Sir Raoul. It’s possible to install apps for other brands. Once, I was able to install and run a Nokia game—I think it’s Air Glide. It displayed NOKIA on my V66. Game’s a bit dull, I deleted it.

Pag nagvideo kayo, ung H263 codec ang gamitin nyo. mas mabilis kasi ang fps nya compare dun sa mpeg4. Pag nagconvert kyo using ImTOO 3gp video converters, diretso nyo na mape-play un sa asus nyo. Un din ang ginagamit ko sa nokia bago ako nagswitch to asus.

im an m303 user po, i don’t know if v66 has the same settings, but nonetheless, here goes

1. go to network, then wap
2. select profiles, then you may choose the empty one, or modify a default profile
3. select option, then modify
4. set the name to sun
5. go to wap settings. enter and save the following:
gateway ip: 202.138.159.078
login name: (leave blank)
password: (leave blank)
homepage: www.suncellular.com.ph
conn. type: con oriented
security: off
use bearer: gprs
6. leave the CSD settings as is
7. go to GPRS settings and input wap in the APN field
8. leave the adv set as is
9. set the message server to: http://mmscenter.suncellular.com.ph

SAVE EVERYTHING, choose this as your profile, and voila, you have gprs already

next is how you set up mms

1. copy everything to a new profile
2. name it mms (or anything that will differentiate from the previous profile)
3. go to mms settings
4. go to profile
5. then select the newly created setting

note: even if settings are the same, profile in wap should be chosen separately from profile in mms (that’s why you have to create 2 different settings). otherwise, you’ll get the downloading message error when mms-ing

that’s it! hope it works for you.

BTW, guys, im selling my m303 to almost the same price as v66, i really really just need the money. pls let me know if anyone’s interested. you get all the features of v66 plus more!

Ung .jar extension ang idownload mo. Almost all java games naman eh gumagana sa phone natin. minsan nga lng designed sya for nokia kya ung iba hindi kasya sa screen. Dun din me kumukuha sa binigay na site ni boss raoul beside dun sa mga nasa nokia6260 ko.

i have an asus m303 unit, what kind of games can i install on it, i got games from www.getjar.com like tetris and stuff, but every time i intall a game, i can’t run it,i tried to restart the phone , but i still can’t play, can anybody help me here?

I’m a V66 user, however. You were able to install the *.JAR file, its just won’t run? Any error message? tobitrislq.jar runs fine on my V66.

That’s odd. Though, not all Java games/apps will run on our Asus phones. Java games/apps sent to my V66 usually displays “successfully installed” and are not found in Games but in Java (i.e. Media Center>Java).

First I used the Handset Manager to install Java games/apps but it takes too long. Then I came across Sir Raoul’s suggestion (no. 16). Create a folder on the Handset or miniSD, copy all Java apps/games there, use the phone’s File Manager to install (i.e. Organizer>File Manager>Handset or Memory Card>Choose the folder>Choose the Java games/apps>Install [press Enter key or Option>Install]).

Only 12 Java games/apps can be installed at a time. I’ve encounter only 4 kinds of problems on successfully installed games/apps: will display an error when run, runs but stuck at Java display, runs all the way to games/apps menu but won’t run any further, and incompatible screen size (i.e. display’s off the screen).

I hope the above can help you a little, since we don’t have the same kind of phone. Good luck!

I never encountered any errors everytime i install a new game on my V66 phone. In fact, the games im using on my v66 are the ones i have on my nokia6260. even games on nokia that are not working can successfully be installed on asus v66. one problem is the screen size. some games designed on nokia will not fit on d screen of v66. all my game software are installed on my minisd so everytime i want to play a game, i will install it then after playing it, i will uninstall it again on my phone. just install it then uninstall it after playing.

Hi! Kudos to all who have shared their knowledge regarding this topic! I found this page very informative, to say the least. However, I still have some questions regarding the V66 phone, viz:

a. I have downloaded some MP3s to my phone’s internal memory, but while I was toying around with the options, I have inadvertently selected Use as Ringtone on one of the songs. How do I remove the MP3 file from my list of ringtones? I tried going to Tone Settings, but it does not give me an option to remove that file.

b. What does DRM mean? I saw it when I was browsing through the File Manager. The DRM drive is listed as having a total capacity of 1917K. In addition, when I connected my phone to a PC, the PC detected two separate drives, but only one of them was accessible. The accessible drive was the phone’s internal memory, but the other drive gave the message “Please enter a disk to drive xx”. What does this drive pertain to?

c. How do you play BombGrid? What are the rules for this game? I just click and click on the screen, sometimes rows and columns of characters would be obliterated, but I still don’t get the pattern.

d. Where can you buy inexpensive MiniSD memory cards aside from Wellcom? I tried going to different phone shops, but they only carry MMC/RS-MMC and SD memory cards.

e. Are there any other downloadable themes and firmware upgrades available for the V66? If so, where could I download it?

f. Since this phone is open line, how do you set up GPRS / WAP / MMS / etc. for the different networks? What are the connectivity settings that I must manually configure, and how do I go about doing it?

I hope you guys could help me find answers to these questions. I really like this phone. With a solid price point and tons of features, I do believe that this phone rocks! ;-]

b. DRM? Maybe Dynamic RAM? 1917K RAM for phone housekeeping (e.g. installed JAVA games/apps, phonebook, etc.). Yes, 64MB for phone’s internal memory. The other one is reserve for the miniSD. When you slid a miniSD into the slot, you’ll be able to access that other drive.

c. I think I’ll play it sometimes…

d. Best I heard/read so far is (same) Wellcom, P700 for 128MB (No. 51 by Sir shining_gundam). The one I managed to search sells for P950 (2 guys from Manila, I think Binondo). They post their products at www.tipidpc.com (need to register as member, which is free). e. I think the 4 Themes are fixed. You can also register your phone there and be an ASUS VIP member — for technical support. Though, I haven’t received any replies from them.

f. My V66 came with pre-setup MMS and GPRS settings (Smart and Globe). Though, I haven’t tested or used these 2 features — a bit on the budget side. Text lang lagi. Smart and Globe have the settings on their site, but most are for Nokia, Sony-Ericsson and other mass brand.

z. Best phone yet! Pero kung 1.3 Megapixels CCD with flash ang V66… Very best na maskin walang Bluetooth o Infrared.

No free miniSD for V66. Free miniSD is only for M303 (P14T). However, Wellcom has a promo (cash purchase) of P990 for a 128MB miniSD (from original price of P1200)—package with a V66. Purchase can also be done thru card but with 5% charge.

V66 has no capability to read PDF files. I use ReadManiac to creat JAR files from TXT or HTML files. Then I upload these JAR files to phone and install as JAVA apps via phone’s File Manager.

I’m not aware of any software that’ll make a V66 read PDF. The TXT files I created to JAR were extracted from PDF files (Copy and Paste).

At the moment, V66 has no feature to read other file formats other than those advertised. Though, I’m hoping that their Firmware upgrade would include the JSR-75 API support. It would make it possible to access the filesystem. So that, we can use Text Readers such as ReadManiac—without creating JAR files for each of our TXT files—just save TXT files on our phone.

ReadManiac is one hell of a JAVA app. I managed to finish reading two Harry Potter books (Order of the Phoenix and The Half-Blood Prince) which I thought impossible. These books are thick and I’m not really much into fiction. But reading using the V66 made it very interesting and fun. At first, I just want to know what happen next after The Goblet of Fire movie, but now I can’t stop reading. I’m reading the book and will read the earlier books to wait for the 7th and last Harry Potter book.

Harry Potter? Well, anybody would want to suggest a book I can download and read on my V66?

NOTE: ReadManiac version 2.5 is available, which can read both TXT and HTML files (http://www.deep-shadows.com/hax/ReadManiac/). Midlets from HTML can support images/graphics.

TIP:Guys, if you don’t have lots of JAVA games/apps installed, it would be a good idea to make ReadManiac midlets 500KB in size so that you won’t need frequent install-delete-install (i.e. for big books).

Cguro meron sa inyo na mas mataas pa sa akin ksi nga masaya ‘tong laruin.

fellow asus users did you know that you can take snap shots of the video you are playing? just press the capture key iyong nasa LEFT SIDE NG PHONE during video play back. then you can view the pics taken sa my album ang file name ang default file name is SNAPxxxxxx.

Anybody know the going price for a 1 GIG mini SD card? coz my 512 MB may not be enough anymore.

Speaking of SD card. doon sa may SD card dont you wonder why na number of space available that shows in the file manager is lower than the capacity of our SD card. for example my 512 mb card only 486 mb is shown sa file manager. i asked a phone technician and ang sabi nya is normal lang daw yon. the memory card keeps a certain memory for itself. para siguro sa mga vital functions nya.

Advertised size is raw size (or unformatted). Like hard drives and floppy disks, missing space (after formatting) is being used for the FAT, tracks and sectors. Sectors are where data is recorded, tracks are where the sectors are located, and the FAT contains the information of what and where things are kept (e.g. filename, size, what track, what sector).

Bro palitan mo lang ng .jar ang .zip tapos save mo sa folder ng miniSD mo or internal memory and then install mo tapos ok na pwede ka na maglaro…

No time limit video recording with voice. Limited only by the size of available memory. Probably the only difference is the camera, M303 is 1.3 Megapixels while a V66 is only 0.3 Megapixels (or VGA).

What should we request?
1. Auto-capital letter after period.
2. All tones changeable (I would want my phone say, “You got SMS!”).
3. MP3 seek playing (fast forward and backward).
4. Filesystem access (JSR-75 API).
5. Save Inbox messages to secondary memory.
6. Themes changeable.
7. Zooming in image view.
8. Radio play thru speaker (though, I think the headphone is needed for FM reception—no luck here).
9. More than 12 JAVA games/apps installed at a time.
10. Way to quickly include phone nos. when composing messages.

try creating a folder, then store your mp3s. then go to file manager, open that folder, then play the first song. the phone would automatically create a playlist based on the contents of the folder. go tto the media center, then go to the audio player. when you press the left soft key (above the green call button), it would show you a list of the available songs in the playlist. you could select which song you would like to listen to from that.

Yes, it’s only 0.3 Megapixels or 640×480 dpi (VGA). Asus V66 is great if you are to consider price and features—it has almost all the cool features for under 10K. Aside from being a true mobile phone, it gives you the extra advantage of still/movie capture, MP3/MP4 playback, Java games/app, and FM w/ cool headset. Compared with my Apacer Audio Steno AS820 MP3 player, the V66 produces better sound.

I always set capture to max 640×480 resolution at Fine settings (no digital zooming setting—but I got a 100x zoom at home using a computer).

The V66 needs good lighting to take good pictures. Low light condition tends to use much of the processors power and slow down capture considerably. And the captured images won’t be that clear in low light, it’ll produce image artifacts.

I hope the pictures will help you in a way.

v66 may only be .3 megapixel but it has 262k colors. i have a photo developed into 3r size taken with a v66 and it turned out fine. as long as there is appropriate lighting your photos will turn out good

Is there a way para ma-save yung incoming msg sa phone memory at hindi sa sim? lahat ksi ng incoming msgs ko sa sim muna nasave tapos pag wla na space saka lng nag tatransfer sa phone. hinahanap ko yung settings para maging default storage yung phone para sa inbox, wla ako makita. yung outbox meron, pwede mo gawing phone ang default storage. bka my alam kayo. post nyo naman.

I’m just new here. Im an m303 user. Na-observe ko lang n every time the lights(backligths) are turned on, meron sounds akong naririnig. Maririnig mo lang yun kapag nilapit mo tenga mo sa earpiece, lalo na dun sa harapan nung flip. For me its annoying kapag maririnig ko yun. Pero kapag nawala na yung lights(sleep mode), mawawala na rin yung sounds. Normal lang ba yung tunog na yun? Minsan tuloy naiisip ko meron yatang fan sa loob to na syang gumagawa nung ingay. Heheh. Imposible nman yun sa liit ng phone na to’ magkakasya ba yun. Any m303 user could explain about this?

Flourescent light ang gamit sa mga LCD displays. Flourescent light ay gumagamit ng ballast, kung magnetic ballast ito ay nakakapag-produce ng “humming” sound. Pero, Cold Cathod light na po yata gamit sa modern devices, kasi hindi nag-iinit gaya ng Flourescent light. The same principle po sila, electric charge and gas vapor. Ewan ko lang kung may ballast pa Cold Cathod light, at considering the small construction of mobile phones…

Anyway, walang audible sounds ang V66 ko kung may background lights. Baka po fault o normal thing sa M303. Try na lang ninyo po pa-check sa WellCom, under warranty naman po.

Uy thanks sa reply. Siguro nga normal lang yun sa m303. Bilib naman ako s’yo, dami mong alam. Nway try ko n rin ipacheck sa wellcom. Tyaka nga pala, n-experience mo na bng mg-hang ang cp(V66 o m303)? Sa akin kasi twice na nangyari, lalo na ng mgsave and view ako ng animated pictures(gif) s phone, at nung medyo napuno na yung phone memory at minisd ko. Hinihintay ko na magbalik sa normal, pero ayaw naman, so ang gingawa ko tinitanggal ko ang batterya pare ma-refresh/re-start. Pero sa Ngayon naman di n nangyayari yun.
