W800i: It's for real!

mine! all mine!! I can't belive my eyes - the most coveted phone in the market is sitting on the charger right in my room. I was able to acquire a W800i for review purposes and will be posting my full length review after I get to test it out for a few days. I hope by that time, Sony Ericsson Philippines would have forgotten they lent me one. First impressions: The W800i comes packed in a hard plastic case, which is a first in the cellphone industry. I was impressed by the comprehensive package the W800i came with - apart from the charger and the unit itself, the phone comes with a sync cable that is usually sold separately, the software CD and a neat set of SE earphones with rubber padding instead of foam (although a set of 4 is included too). The W800i comes with a 512MB Memory Stick Pro Duo. This, plus the earphones are essentially what differentiates the W800i from the k750i. It is also important to note that the adapter of the W800i is different from other SE models because the charger slot is also the slot for the walkman earphones. This means that if you own other SE branded phones like a k700i, you can't interchange chargers. There is a myth that the k750i bundled earphones are better than the W800i's. Let me explore and I'll give you feedback soon. Watch out for the full review in upcoming issues.

Knock-Yeah! forever(?) hehehehe...

But seriously now, I'm mighty impressed by the W800! It would've been one of my to-buy list but I can no longer live with a phone alone (it *must* be a PDA/Phone or nothing).

I was only able to purchase this thru BPI's credit limit Time Three Promo. Not really a good deal as SE jacked-up the price.

On the other hand, W800i is awesome. At first, I thought its just a simple Expandable Memory Card Upgrade to K700i but I was proven wrong.

------------------------------------------------------------
Plus Side
1. Great Sounding, VERY COMFORTABLE Earhpone

2. Improved User Interface - not exactly multitasking like Sybian OS but it allows you to switch to walkman mode doing anything else. It allows you to minimize apps so you can do something else. It also allows you to immediately switch to speakerphone unlike k700i.

3. Great Walkman Interface - Can create/update playlist while listening.

4. Dedicated Volume Control that works while KeyLocked

5. Dedicated Play Button that works while KeyLocked

6. Best Camera (phone) I ever got my hands on

7. Long battery life - Two work days (8AM to 6PM) with no recharging, most of the time, the walkman is on.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Downside

1. Earpiece is great for uninterrupted listening, but if you are on a public place, this is an issue. You can hardly hear anything else.

2. No A2WP Bluetooth profile - Means no Bluetooth stereo capability unlike Motorola e680i

3. The earphone's rubber neck-line support (with SONY ERICSSON Text) is a bit too heavy dragging the earphones

4. And since no A2WP support, can't get rid of the pesky wires.

5. Not a PDA (Still can't get rid of my Zire 72s)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Its a keeper. Though I'll be swapping this with my Wife as soon as she gets me a Motorola e680i with stereo bluetooth headset. E680i is not the best PDA phone out there but its an affordable PDA Phone with bluetooth stereo headset. Hopefully, it will be up to the task for what I need: Basic PDA Phone w/document viewer, touch screen, expandable memory, Stereo MP3, AND WIRELESS STEREO.

I just got this last september.

Plus Side

1. Great sounding, comfortable earphone - Earpiece is of the right size, no strain on your ears even if you plug it in for hours. And since the earphones uses standard 3.5mm jack, you can simply use an extender cable, and use as headset for your laptop.

2. Updated User Interface - Not exactly multitasking like Symbian, but way much better than K700. You can switch back and forth between your Java Games, Walkman Player, and Phone Functions. Unlike K700, you can also go to speakerphone while still trying to connect the call.

3. Best (phone) camera I've ever seen

4. Intuitive Walkman Interface - create/update playlist and play settings while still listening.

5. Long battery life - For two working days, I've been using this (almost) non-stop without having to recharge.

Downside
1. No A2WP Bluetooth profile - Unlike Motorola e680i, W800i wont allow you to listen to Stereo Music without the pesky wires

2. Not a PDA Phone - I still have to rely on Zire 72s for basic PDA requirements

3. Rubberized neckline support for the earphones is relatively heavy - pulling down the earphones.

4. The bane of the noise cancelling earphone - it allows you to listend comfortably without outside noise - but since you can hardly hear anything else, you have to unplug during conversations and while walking on a busy street.
