This one was not something revolutionary (unlike the 5GB one called the iPod nano), but I should say that its an insanely great device. Now, I wouldn’t shell out cash to pay for this device yet. It needs more content. Give it a year or two to pick up. By then, there are 100 gigs model available already.

Well, its timely for me personally since my two-year-old 10GB iPod’s battery is starting to become noticeably weaker. Though the Nano looks real sweet, I think this new generation of full-sized iPods will serve my purposes better.

i agree.

As usual, there’s a whole lot of buzz surrounding the new video iPod, with quite a bit of kneejerk fallout towards the nano. Off the bat, a number of people have expressed relief that they passed on the nano. However, an important thing to consider (and is being overlooked) is the fact that these products will address their own niches. There’s a whole segment of users that are perfectly happy with the nano — they like their devices small, they prefer their gadgets compact. Anything larger than a shuffle is a stretch. Plus, the nano is flash-based, which suits a lot of folk better. I personally would give an internal organ or two for a video iPod, but I wouldn’t count the nano out of the game just yet. And Winston’s right — something like this needs a shade more tweaking. So for now I’ll hang on to my liver and left kidney, until maybe a 2nd gen video unit comes along. :D

I’ve had one (30gb in dramatic black) since Oct. 18 and like Steve Jobs said this new iPod is a music player first, then photo and video thrown in as bonuses. Notice that it is called the new iPod and not vPod or video iPod. And it seems that he’s right on the money again (in more ways than one). I’ve been loading tons of songs, some family pictures and the Pixar Tin Toy CG short. Will not be buying any TV shows though even though the video (and photo) quality on the 2.5 screen looks fantastic. The earphones though iconic is uncomfortable, parang magkakalyo ang kanang tenga ko. If your old ipod is dying you should get this one, if you’ve got a relatively new one then you can wait for the real video iPod.

isnt it that apple is a bit late in this technology? archos has been doing this for years, and other brands such as creative, epson, rca, etc had already released their portable video player.

heck, even korean-made maxian already has a portable media player.

excuse me, is this things available now?

@alucard: I think stocks are starting to come in and there are reports that the Apple Center in Megamall had stocks though it was sold out immediately. Stocks should “stabilize” in the coming weeks.

@John Ray: But the early adopters doesn’t have contents available for $1.99 readily available for download although this is not applicable to us here in the Philippines, its a rather big deal at the U.S. since Apple just reported a couple of hunder thousand download of videos a couple of days ago
