McNintendo

McDo! This post may not have much relevance for any of us here in the Philippines, but the news bodes well that it could happen here someday. (Long shot, but you never know.)

If you own a Nintendo DS, live in the US and happen to love McDo, you’re in luck. McDonald’s just entered into a deal with wifi carrier Wayport where 6000 branches of Mickey Ds in the US will carry Nintendo’s new wifi gaming service Nintendo Wireless Connection and allow Big Mac snarfers to play for free! (It’s safe to assume that a purchase is required, but nothing’s really free in this world, right?)

Nintendo DSAll you need is to walk into McDonald’s with a Nintendo DS and a copy of a wifi game like Mario Kart DS, and you can connect immediately (with no setting-up required). Just startup the game in Nintendo Wireless Connection mode and there you go!

Wayport’s service officially begins nationwide in the US in mid-November. It’s unclear if McDo will provide wipes to get the catsup off your touchscreens.

nice to know theyre doing crazy (but fun-ny) things like this

mc d’s always up to something like that, heard the news before about downloading music and stuff there, is that already going on in the us???

That’s great news here for us NDS users in Las Vegas. There’s tons of homebrews like DSLinux, DSmail and VoicePenChat to keep your office matters within reach. It was my students who pointed out to me that I could access my mail in McDo. They’ve been praying for the chance to kick my butt in Metroid Prime Hunters but I told them I only have boring games (w/c they know is a big fat lie because there’s none). Even Nintendogs is freaking addictive. They don’t know I play against Japanese hardcore NDS gamers at night because it’s daytime there. Haven’t gotten any invites from Manila yet though. Oh btw, there’s a TV tuner coming out. Time to put that old PSP on E-bay. NDS Rocks.

They also released the Nintendo DS Browser. It allows you to surf any website, open mail from Yahoo, Google, etc. But its graphics renderer is limited to photos. It won’t open Youtube videos or any videos for that matter because of the absence of Flash. But DShackers are busy working on it. In the meantime, we’re placing our names on the Cingular iPhone waiting list which will be released here this June. Ahhh, Christmas shall cometh early this year I guess.
