Prices are a-dropping

Planning on buying a new laptop or PC? Prices are dropping like flies in anticipation of Intel’s new Core 2 Duo processors, which are now being launched globally (first week of August for us here).

The big deal about Core 2 Duo is that these dual-core chips are priced surprisingly low while offering greater performance/power dynamics. New Core 2 Duo processors for laptops offer 20 percent more performance versus current Core Duo machines, while Core 2 Duo processors for desktops promise 40 percent more performance AND 40 percent less power consumption!

All this means that dealers have to unload current inventory, and fast. Which is why we are now seeing brand new laptops at the unheard-of P25,000-peso price point!

And AMD has to react to this onslaught too, so AMD processors are already set for really drastic price cuts as well. So get ready to do some serious bargain hunting, folks, if you are out to get a new laptop or PC. Now’s the time to shop around.

For those of you who have just recently bought a Core Duo laptop (like a certain Geekette who frequents this site), don’t worry, the first generation of Core 2 Duo processors for laptops (”Merom” for you geeks) will be compatible with current Core Duo laptops, so if in case you feel like getting an added 20 percent or so performance kick, you can upgrade.

And for those of you who’d rather wait for the next generation, sit around til the end of the year. Coming soon: quad core. Core 2 Quad perhaps?

Where are the 25K PHP laptops?

daemon: Where are the 25K PHP laptops?

Check out SM’s Cyberzone. More precisely, it’s P25,700. I spotted a number of shops selling these at SM City’s Cyberzone. If I remember right, Compex was selling a generic laptop at this price. Don’t expect fantastic fantastic performance (i.e. it might only have 256MB of RAM… and absolutely no software installed), but for basic school and office work, it can be perfect.

256? that’s ok Daemon di ba Sir Art? you can always upgrade your RAM anyways… they’re bascially affordable naman :)

is the RAM for laptops upgradable? and if so, how much does RAM for laptop costs?

Yes RAM is upgradable. Just check your RAM sockets — normally, 256MB laptops would have a spare socket, to which you can plug another 256MB RAM card.

Price? Last time I checked PC Express, it was P1,450 for a 256MB SODIMM memory, and P2,750 for 512MB. Not bad!

planning to buy a new laptop, needs advise and suggestion the specs, and whats the best buy now-a-days. thanks

ang 30K po ba makakabili na’ko ng good.nice laptop. I’m an incoming college student

revee: 30k po ba makakabili na’ko ng good nice laptop?

Yes, definitely. In fact, the cheapest laptop I’ve seen is just P18,500 (VIA processor). If all you need to do is word processing, spreadsheets, and surfing, okay na okay na ito.

If you prefer an Intel rather than a VIA processor, a pretty useful laptop can be as cheap as P25,000. Wala nga lang Windows pa yun. Add Windows and P30,000 na nga ang cost, heheh.

HI can anyone help me? Im a college student and Im planning on getting myself an ACER ASPIRE 4310-300508 NOTEBOOK. Its very affordable at 30k and it has everything that I need. Im just wondering why it is very “cheap”. Does it have a catch? Any hidden flaws that may arise several months after I buy it? Please help me. I need a notebook asap for school. Thanks in advance.

Some notebooks are priced low because they cut back on several items to bring the price to a more affordable range. These “cut backs” usually come in the form of small RAM, no OS, or just an average integrated shared-RAM video card. But if you’ve already checked the specifications out and its to your liking, buying from a reputable store and a branded product usually guarantees you quality that is backed up by a warranty of no less than a year.

Thankyou :) after inquiring directly at acer, they told me that it has no OS and its processor is not really great which is why its cheap. Now Ive changed my mind since I am a CommArts student and I need a laptop that can handle heavy loads of music and video. Please help me again with this. Thanks

Hi. I’d like to ask if all laptops are upgradeable? Because I bought a new laptop (Compaq V3000) and I’m just realizing its effect that it’s quite slow due to the 512mb RAM (it’s already taken up 80%).. Do you think I can upgrade this to 1GB? and If i can, how much do you think it’ll cost me? :) Thanks!

Hi! I recently bought a Compaq Presario V3000 Notebook and I’d like to ask if I can upgrade the RAM on this laptop? :) Because I realized that I’m down to 20% left and my laptop is running rather slow. Could I still upgrade the 512MB to 1 GB? and if so, how much do you think it will cost me? Thanks! :)

RAM is usually upgradeable. Just check the documentation as to what kind and up to how much you RAM your laptop can accommodate. Then, just shop around for the appropriate RAM you need. Thanks! :)

ask ko lang po why mostly laptop sellers don’t include the laptop installers/drivers?

They should include the drives and installers, except for the OS. I’m sure Compaq/HP includes driver disk in their laptops and a recovery disk for the OS, but not a stand alone installer since its OEM.

I’m not sure about other manufacturers, but I’m pretty sure Lenovo, Toshiba and other big name manufacturers do the same.

What made you say that driver disk and installers are not included in the laptop sales package?

I’m planning to buy a laptop. i would just like to know which is more faster celeron 533mhz aspire 4310-300508 with 2gb of ram or amd64 x2 aspire 4520-301G12 with only 1gb of ram? they are both the same shared memory on video.
