Art Ilano is trying to get you to shake your booty - by getting you to set your phone to vibrate. The fact is, he says, "the ring tone on your MP3-enabled phone that you think is so cute is actually annoying to just about everyone else around you." Well, Art, this bit of news just might kill you - now you can make your ringtone play on the phones of the people you call. Nope, this isn't the ringback option offered by our local telcos - you don't listen to the ringing tone set by the person you're calling. This is an entirely different animal. Emotive's Push Ringer "allows a caller to push an outgoing ringtone to a receiving phone allowing the caller, not the called person, to set the tone and override the phone's pre-set ringer." Yup, you can call somebody and force them to listen to your favorite love ballads until they answer you call. The service isn't available here yet, but I'm dreading it already.

Vibes tayo

Let’s face it, the ring tone on your MP3-enabled phone that you think is so cute is actually annoying to just about everyone else around you. They’re just too polite to say anything. So more and more business folks are doing the smart thing, which is to permanently set their phones on silent/vibrate mode. That means always keeping your phone on your person and just feeling the calls and text messages as they come in, so to speak. Not just when in a meeting, but practically throughout your entire working day. The people behind the ring tones business may not like this trend, but if it gathers steam, then it will make for more peaceful offices and public places. There will be less of those horrifying boy band tunes popping up while you’re absorbed in a particularly intense moment in the movie house. No, wait, it’s the kids who do that, so don’t expect this trend to catch on with them. It ain’t foolproof though. Vibrate works best if you’re wearing tight jeans and your phone’s pressed right against your thigh. Or if you’re wearing a fit shirt with a pocket. Unfortunately, vibrate won’t be your thing if you still wear hip-hop baggy pants or your flab’s just way too thick too feel anything anymore (Adel, how's vibrate working for ya? --DUCK!). I’m all for this though. After all, I and the people around me have all grown tired of listening to the same old R2D2 tweet that my phone does whenever a text message comes in.

iPhone (cases) now available!

It's amazing. The thing isn't out yet, but cases are popping up in Hong Kong and other tiangges in the region for the forthcoming iPhone from Apple. Hardcases, acrylic, leather, etc. All based on specs posted on the Apple website. Man. I'm a fanboy, admittedly, and I'm frothing at the mouth to get an iPhone, but I'm not about to buy a case ahead of time. This is just an indicator of how strong the Reality Distortion Field is for this product. Man. Man. (Photo from akihabaranews.com)

Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP) has, without a doubt, captured a niche in the gaming world. While the original black version of the PSP is still popular, many are now opting to get the ceramic white version. They probably want to match it with their white iPods, or they simply like the appeal of the clean white version, but for those who find the black and white version too dull, here’s some good news for you. Sony released 4 new colors available for the PSP: blue, pink, silver and gold. I guess Sony decided to follow Apple’s direction of providing more options to its consumers. eyes candy As far as I can remember, the iPod was the first to offer colored models in their discontinued iPod Mini line, apart from their white and black iPod models. They continued this trend in the 2nd Generation Nano and Shuffle. I guess the colored line helped in boosting sales even further, so it’s really not surprising if Sony follows suit. So what’s next? Colored PS3s? Hmmm…

Breaking the TB Barrier

HDD While Hitachi announced the availability of the first 1 TB hard disk during the second quarter of this year, Seagate’s projection on hard drive capacities, according to Gizmodo, suggest that by 2013, a 1 TB 2.5-inch drive will be possible, and using the same calculation, a 1.8-inch drive can be available by 2014. Wow! I can still remember the day when we were already raving about the 1GB capacity and wondering what we can do with all the space. Now, 1GB capacity is a thing of the past and our hunger for more storage seems to be endless. Is it a case of gluttony for more gigabytes? Honestly, it’s hard to tell especially when software makers such as Microsoft often demand more disk space as they release newer versions of their software. Hmmm…do I smell a conspiracy here? But for mobile devices such as the iPod that uses 1.8-inch drive, well, the 1 TB drive will surely put big smiles on the faces of music junkies all over the world.
Palm Treo 750 Palm has finally released the Treo 750 in the Philippines. Microwarehouse threw a launch party for the Treo 750 on March 20, 2007 at the Embassy Bar, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. Looking like the Treo 680's identical twin, the Treo 750 runs on Windows Mobile 5.0, unlike its predecessor running on the Palm OS. The Treo 750 also features an upgraded camera (1.3 megapixels), and is now 3G- and HSDPA-capable. Processor-wise, it also took a different route by using a Samsung processor instead of Intel. The result of shifting to a different processor and OS is yet to be determined, but with regards to its features, Palm has definitely moved towards the right direction. Taking the best from the Treo 680 and improving on it, the Treo 750 is indeed a worthy upgrade to the Treo 680.
