Breaking the TB Barrier

While Hitachi announced the availability of the first 1 TB hard disk during the second quarter of this year, Seagate’s projection on hard drive capacities, according to Gizmodo, suggest that by 2013, a 1 TB 2.5-inch drive will be possible, and using the same calculation, a 1.8-inch drive can be available by 2014.
Wow! I can still remember the day when we were already raving about the 1GB capacity and wondering what we can do with all the space. Now, 1GB capacity is a thing of the past and our hunger for more storage seems to be endless. Is it a case of gluttony for more gigabytes? Honestly, it’s hard to tell especially when software makers such as Microsoft often demand more disk space as they release newer versions of their software. Hmmm…do I smell a conspiracy here? But for mobile devices such as the iPod that uses 1.8-inch drive, well, the 1 TB drive will surely put big smiles on the faces of music junkies all over the world.
