Nokia Battery Advisory
Nokia has released an advisory regarding their BL-5C battery. The cell phone giant is issuing a recall on this type of batteries, manufactured from December 2005 to November 2006. According to the press release, overheating occurs while a phone is being charged. There have been 100 reports globally concerning this issue, prompting Nokia to recall the battery. If you’re not sure if your battery falls under this category, contact the Nokia call center or visit the website for more details.
I can’t help but wonder if this is related to the incident that happened locally to a mother whose Nokia mobile phone reportedly exploded while being charged. Though no specifics were given as to what model she had and if indeed it exploded, it could be related as overheating usually leads to more destructive consequences. However, Nokia was quick to add that out of the 100 incidents, no serious injuries or property damage have been reported. I wonder, does traumatic experience count as a serious injury?
Do yourself a favor and have some peace of mind, if you’re battery is covered by this advisory, have it replaced.

my mother tried to check her n70 at nokia davao (gaisano mall) since the case where the battery is located has a black discoloration that looks like burnt marks. it also looks like the black color came from the battery sticker. since it is possible that (over) heat caused the transfer (or extended pressurized contact), she had her cellphone checked at the OFFICIAL NOKIA service center here in davao. However the supervisor told her not to be “paranoid” about her cellphone and its just probably friction causing the black discoloration (transfer). My mother, a licensed chemical engineer for almost 30 years got furious as being told “paranoid” in a crowded room was totally not what she (a customer) expected. A check with the Internet showed that her battery’s number was not part of the recall. However, we advised her not to put her n70 on the pocket, nor charge overnight. You cant be too carefull you know. She promised that as well as NOT to buy a NOKIA CP anymore (i dont tink she will keep her promise on the buying NOKIA anyway :-).
