HTC is probably one of the first to release a salvo of iPhone contenders into the market, and while most of them have failed to put up a decent battle with Apple’s premier mobile phone, it looks like they've kept their secret weapon hidden from the public eye for the past couple of months just waiting to be unveiled at the proper time.
The HTC Touch HD is not your typical HTC Touch. It’s actually the granddaddy of the entire line boasting of features that will put to shame every little model they’ve already unleashed to the public. First of is its huge and brilliant 3.8-inch WVGA widescreen display. It’s the biggest so far in the HTC Touch line and beats the iPhone which only comes with a 3.5-inch screen.
Other notable specs include a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, a secondary camera in the front, 3G/HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, AGPS, 288MB RAM, 3.5mm headphone jack, Google Maps, and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS with HTC TouchFLO 3D. All of this combine for the speediest and most feature-packed Touch to date.
It’s expected to hit the European market in the last quarter of this year and other global markets thereafter. Unfortunately, no pricing was mentioned. Hopefully, it'll reach our shores before the year ends and I highly doubt it'll be more expensive than the current price of the iPhone.

this phone is nasty!! if this is off the GSM network TMOBILE here i come!
There's no denying that HTC has really taken some massive strides in recent years, really establishing its brand as the premiere manufacturer of Windows Mobile smartphones. We've already seen the HTC Touch, Touch Dual, Touch Diamond and Touch Pro, so let's add another Touch to the mix with the HTC Touch HD.
As its name implies, the single greatest feature that sets the HTC Touch HD apart from the rest of the touchscreen smartphone family is the fact that the display has a super high resolution display, numbering 800 pixels by 480 pixels. That gives you crisper text, prettier menus, and some great multimedia experiences.
Rounding out the specs are a 528MHz processor, 256MB RAM, 5 megapixel!! camera, GPS, and HSDPA. No word on price -- this phone isn't even official yet -- but i hear that it'll launch in time for Christmas.
Where can I buy this....???
Cost???
I currently have a BBPearl with ATT and am sick of waiting for the BBBold. I want this phone....!!!
Does this phone offer such basic features as surfing the internet while talking on the phone and picture text messaging? What about listening to music through your bluetooth headset? Does Windows Media Player (I'm assuming the default player for audio and video) keep the location you were last at in the song or video (in Mobile 5 the video does not store your location in the audio)?
Lastly, is Mobile 6 more stable than 5 which crashed constantly on my Treo 700wx?
Thanks.
How perfectly marvellous!
I wonder what the SAR rating will be.
i'm getting this phone. i was going to get the touch diamond but i'll wait for this one
At last a REAL phone. Last week I finally sold my iPhone - what a piece of rubbish - no MMS, no Flash, no Java, no RSS, no cut/paste, plenty of dropped calls, weakest signal strength of ANY phone. Most important, lousy integration with my business. Here HTC have given the businessman exactly what we need. Great interface and underneath there is the Microsoft OS that lets it integrate with Exchange. I can also run Word, Excel and the tens of thousands of other aps made for Windows Mobile. And I don't need Steve Jobs' permission. I think this (and the Blackberry) will be the phone for (business)leaders while the iPhone will be for followers (of fashion) - just like Mac vs PC.
@mike
It's official already. It's live on HTC's website and there's also a press release about it already.
Man, I was all set to get the Samsung Omnia (only a fool would buy an iPhone), until this little beauty came out. Guess it's an HTC Touch HD for me then!
The new HTC is really packed with great features and it definitely beats Ipod Touch in terms of specs. We know that there are far more superior mobile phones than Ipod Touch but why does people keep buying it?
Yeah HTC might have the beats it in terms of specs but it does not have Itunes…. People look for information availability – music, e-books, games, movies, podcasts, etc. than mere specs – (I guess HTC touch are for business use not a rival against Ipod Touch) …you know how people get “wow” with Ipod Touch because everyone has it and “you gotta have one to” … right
This is so cool! Omg.. can't wait to get it!
HTC has a bad reputation here in Singapore. It's got cutting edge technology but the quality of the device and after sales service is not as good.
I heard theres no flash so whats the 5 megapixels for if theres no flash
I got the HTC Touch, took some time to get used to, Its a brilliant phone, forget itunes I've being using winamp all these years and now I got it on my mobile,
Looking foward to the HD, this is going into my shoping list for Christmas
Wow, this was kept on the down low.. I've been waiting for the new Dream or G1 as is expected with T-mobile- is the HD going to be released in American this year or is the G1 our first go? I love my old MDA by htc with T-mobile and my touch screen died like 1.5 months ago after a hard fall - still works but I've been waiting for the new batch of phones- I love the fact that people are realizing what crap the iphone is- and PCs are still better than Macs- agree with Scot (7) wrote - you really hit the nail on the head... My dilemma now is Windows Mobile or Android! Ahhhh! but I'm pumped.. this HD looks amazing -do I need to wait for this here in California?
can you please send me a latast price of HTC Touch HD
Finally, a PDA phone that lives up to its name, i.e, its large screen enables it to function as a PDA. It's heaps faster to write with the stylus using the "Letter Recogniser" so I am glad it has no keyboard. Makes it lighter too, not to mention slim and slender!
Of course it is going to be more expensive!! Don't you understand that this is a better machine than Iphone? More expensive to manufacture. Only the screen is bigger and present a stunning resolution of 800x480 pixels!! It can be expanded with external microcards; It's got a front camera so you can video chat your calls, etc... Also you have to consider that the Iphone is being sold at such a low price because they sell it to you with a contract. After 1 year you will be paying, at least, more than US$1000 only in bills. You just can't by the apparatus by itself.
Please understand that different companies have different approaches to market and not necessary suffering from the gigantism disease Apple suffers.
I hope this phone will be available to Sprint or Verizon since hopefully that's who I will be switching too lol!!!!! Phone is defientely off the charts though.
Could you please, tell me where and when is going to be possible to buy this "HTC touch HD", I realy need the information as soon as possible...
Thanks.
Some body did mention about the cost....so here in Singapore its cost is around 1280 SGD
Enjoy all....the greatest and smartest phone ever made in the History of this mobile world
HTC is really up to something here. They have released the HTC Touch Diamond, the Touch Pro is on the way, and now the HTC Touch HD. In my opinion, HTC has done enough to make us all forget about the iphone and any other touch screen phone out there. I will be getting the Touch Pro because I like the idea of having a touchscreen and a keyboard. However, the HTC Touch HD is going to be a really nice phone. It will probably be the best full touchscreen phone to date. I am amazed.
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE RELEASE DATE FOR HE HTC TOUCH HD ???? AND WHAT NETWORKS ITS GOING TO BE RELEASED WITH ????
with all the struggles that we all are going through these days, we all deserve some sane stuff to cheer us up. we just hope that sellers won't offer them with unfriendly prices, pls cut the money-thought, give us more smiles.

Yes HTC has really lifted their game within the touch screen phone market. It's about time that a contender really challenged Apple. Huskies for Sale
