Nokia's New Flagship Phone: N97

We’re a bit saddened with the news that the Nokia 6260 slide won’t be released in the local market by Nokia Philippines, but upon hearing about this new model, we quickly got over our depression. Click to enlarge The Nokia N97 is the new flagship model from the Finnish company. It comes with a 3.5-inch 640x360 touchscreen display with tactile feedback, 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss glass lens, slide out QWERTY keypad, HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, 32GB internal memory and support for additional storage of up to 16GB via microSD. This marks the continuing evolution of Nokia's touchscreen phones and the first time an Nseries mobile phone featured a QWERTY keypad. While it does lack DVB-H technology that’s found in the N96, I’m sure most users wouldn’t mind that small sacrificial lamb for the N97's existing feature set. Here's a short promotional video for the N97 to get you even more excited for 2009. It’s expected to begin shipping in the first half of 2009 with a €550 (roughly P34,500) price tag attached to it excluding tax and subsidies. With its impressive line of features, I’m sure aspiring N96 and 5800 XpressMsuic phone owners will now think twice before making any hasty purchases from now until mid next year. While there's still no certainty if it will make it to the local market, I'm pretty optimistic that this one won't suffer the same fate as the 6260 slide. Let's just hope that when it does, its price won't even come close to the SRP of the XPERIA X1 so that more of us can get to enjoy this new beauty.

Its good. But Buy N96 now. If you want to wait for N97, please wait for some more days, N98 will arrive with more features.

Nokia plays with customers.
Don't buy any model, just wait for the next better one. Thats the lesson we should teach companies like Nokia.

If you'll wait for the next better one, you'll never be able to buy anything. That's the lesson to learn in Technology. There will always be a next better once since companies will always look to innovate and find ways to entice customers.

Even though new models will come with better features, they aren't necessarily worth buying unless they've got a lot more to offer than the current ones. Take for example the N96, I personally wouldn't recommend an N95 owner to upgrade to the N96 simple because I don't find it comes with a stellar feature set to consider it as a worthy upgrade unit.

The N97, on the other hand, is by far more superior than the N95 or any other Nokia device in so many aspects. As for the N98, it's almost certain it will come with better features, but better in a way that an N97 owner should buy it is a completely different story.

The internal memory is impressive, 32GB?!?!! and is still expandable. Wow... O_O

I'd wait for the N99 or N100 if I were you.

I'll just buy the N97
and N98
and N99
and N100

but not the N96
or N95
mhmm

It is really amazing. I was really waiting for an electronic item like this. Very handy, and multiple usage. I am very thankful to the nokia comapany. You are really growing and we expect more from you.

Does any one know how many color will the N97 come with?

Strange how this feature set and even the design looks so similar to the new Sony Ericsson X1...could nokia be worried?! :oP

can u tell me when it will be available in india? why its price is so high.is it just because of 5mp camera and gps technology.

I wouldn't swap my iphone for this.

I think in terms of specs XPeria is much better than the N97.

Personally it will be a tough choice for me between the N97 and the iPhone. I feel that this phone is quite similiar to the iPhone. Although this phone features 32GB as Standard and a 5MP Carl Zeiss Lens, Compared to the 8GB standard iPhone and a completely pathetic 2MP camera. Whenever i have been reeled away from the Apple iPhone, I feel myself getting tugged back in by the iPhones impressive range of cheap applications. This is a real benefit for myself, with Msn and 1000's of games to choose for it seems like the perfect phone for me and other 15 year olds like myself. The real turn off that this phone features is an awkward to use Keypad, When trying to get onto the likes of Bebo and soforth I find myself screwing up continuously and wasting about a minute to type in my password, the Nokia N97 however has the easy to use Qwerty Keyboard which I feel will enhance consumers.

Its kinda a rip off of the Xperia... I feel smug i have the N95 and Xperia, butt im sure i will get this when it comes out

im here in europe

N97! No way, very inconvinient with the qwerty keypad instead of keypad touch screen. What if the keypad breaks, remember it is made up plastic. Buy Samsung i9100 omnia the killer phone in this century

Its not worth buying phone . I prefer Samsung omnia the killer phone

i prefer samsung omnia. why? omnia means everything in it

Well, another phone added to a wishlist... but until the next model comes in, am sure it's price would decrease and the idea of waiting is worth it, just wait until December 2009 I guess, ^_^, until then, those phones would possibly be in auction prices, lol.

Am a fan of SE and NOKIA new releases but when 2 incidents happened to me losing phones, i settled for the low end, after all, I can have all the best features with in computer for multimedia better compared to mobile phones, well i understand they're mobile and so serves the purpose, but it's not practical. I don't think you can work with your phone for like 7-8hrs for internet works or multimedia, so better have a phone for it's basic purpose, call

hi sir
your nokia N97 marvelist but it is beter to put at the minue the call cost and inside the camera minue time and date

wow. very impressive. i just hope it does not hang as often as the other nokia phones....

I'm a very satisfied N95 owner based in The Philippines. Motivated by the Mobile TV service, I was ready to upgrade to an N96 this Christmas. But after hearing this buzz about the N97, I'm thinking I should probably wait 'till this is commercially available here (which I reckon would be around April/May 2009 at the earliest). I think one shouldn't understimate the satisfaction mobile TV brings; it's certainly a good (or very good) reason for N95 owners to get an N96 - but with the N97 now coming out, perhaps a few months wait is in good order. That said, I get the impression that the N96 is selling as well as they hope to in our part of the world.

Oh and I really love the new version of Nokia PC Suite the new firmware for the N95 (it's really improved my phone's performance I love the new widgets like Full Search)

But yea, I hope the N97 hits store shelves very very soon!

I would rather wait for an E series model of a touch screen phone. It will make more sense. That is assuming such phone will be released in the future.

this is excactly what ive been looking for..does any body know if it will be on t-mobile/

i choose 2 buyN97 rather than iphone as it's offer more than iphone!

its not worth buying lol

I like to know nokia n97 can I use this phone for verizon network .,.

ISA LNG MASASABI KO MAHAL UNG FONE

Feature wise, this phone has a lot of advantage compared to iPhone 3G.. but iPhone still has its undeniable xFactor. Personally? id chose this phone of Apple iPhone 3G.

anybody noticed that nokia did not released any phone with a number 4 on it? there is no 3400, 8400, n74, e84, n94..

# 4 is is not a a good sign for prosperity same as number 1. as you right those number the ending line is going down which is not a good sign for business. by the way the Chinese prosperity number is 168.

NOW is N97 then what comes next? don't be a fool! just wasting a lot of money to crave those gadgets. instead buy food for your empty stomach or to feed the poor and the needy, more than worth than a piece of n97 . fooling ourself with all material. not worth it.

hi guys! i have a full hands on review of the n97 here with a ton of photos :)

http://abuggedlife.com/2009/03/26/nokia-97-photos-and-hands-on-here-in-the-philippines/

i think the only features that is practically usefull for most of the phone in the philippines is TEXTING, CALLING,PHOTOGRAPHY,VIDEOS, APPLICATIONS(office, games) and MMS(video clips, recordings, pictures). N97 for me is really tech evolution having touchscreeen and exagerrated qwerty all in one but N96 clearly have advantage DVB-H/ mobile TV so im not so excited with N97 i dont really feel much on the touchscreen that can give me an edge on other high-end phone users i prefer a mobile tv at hand its more usefull for me and when it comes on camera N96 and N97 are both the same carl zeiss tessar lens and both can play todays latest java games and WI-FI.

Ok. . .let's say nokia is playing with its fan since it starts to ship, and known around the world because of it's unmatched techy flavours, though it's just newly released a new ones it will kill its fame for just a month to release a better one, but gettin which one is worth!
