We’ve got good news for those who love the HP Mini Note 2133 for its design and form factor but hate its processor and Vista OS. HP has decided to continue their first netbook’s legacy with the Mini 2140.
The HP Mini 2140 comes with an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 10.1-inch LED display, 1GB (max 2GB) RAM, 80GB or 160GB HDD options, WiFi, Bluetooth, Express Card slot, and a ton of OS options that include Windows XP Home/Pro, Vista Basic/Premium, SuSe Linux and FreeDOS. The starting price for the HP Mini 240 is pegged at $499 which is exactly the same price of the Mini Note 2133 when it first debuted a while back. This, likewise, means that the Mini 2140 won’t be cheap at all.
However, with the best features of both the Mini Note 2133 and Mini 1000 all packaged in one stellar looking device, I certainly wouldn’t mind paying extra for it. While this is certainly good news for those holding out on buying a netbook, this latest announcement will definitely disappoint those who have already bought an HP Mini 1000 thinking that they were already getting the best of what HP has to offer as far as netbooks are concerned.

It's a pity that HP makes Linux users suffer with inferior hardware configurations. I think the 2133 is the best mini note out there, and I've held out on purchasing it. I guess I made a wise decision. I'll definitely be picking up this variant unless something comes along much more mouthwatering (Apple) :)
wait out for MSI Wind U120 or so series...it will surely blow you away with its features and price...check it on the news
Tried the 2140, as well as the Asus and MSI up-and-comers, at CES yesterday. 5 minutes on each. The HP was quick, and the keyboard was VERY easy to get used to. The fact that the extended battery sticks down instead of out is a bit of an annoyance (to my tastes that is). The MSI keyboard was great, but it actually seemed sluggish next to the Asus and the HP. The new Asus with the 80GB SSD was quick and easy to use.
Over in the intel booth they were touting the Atom with devices from numerous vendors. Sony had one there, didn't catch the model, and Lenovo's little ideapad. The Lenovo was OK.
The Samsung netbook is a real contender as well. Felt good, was quick.
since the overall specs are mostly the same, it (in my opinion) comes down to the keyboard, and the ports. HP and Samsung have express card slots. So depending on how the Samsung is priced on the street, for me it's the HP 2140, the Samsung, or the new 10" Asus "business" model with the 2GB RAM stock, and the larger SSD.
The OS is irrelevant to me as it will be replaced with Ubuntu anyway!
You don't mention the screen resolution - 1024x576 isn't nearly as good as 1280x768.. I like the extra elbow room..
Phew...I think hp has the best design compare to other netbooks..n this is new product is really awesome..do u have more detailed on it specs especiAlly on what kind of vga card used in it? Is it better than asus s10?

I bought a hp mini and installed linux on it. I had some troubles with adding file extension software. I'm new in this OS and had to look up for tutorials. It's actually easier than Windows,at least for me.
I absolutely love my Mini Note 2133. It's small enough to carry anywhere and it runs really well. I am planning on buying another one for home use.

The few problems that HP Mini 2140 has include screen resolution and the 6 cell pack battery. With the short 576 pixel length, the screen resolution cuts off Web pages in strange spots.Unfortunately, for the HP Mini 2140, Hewlett Packard went with a battery pack that sits at a perpendicular angle to rest of the netbook. This means that the HP 2140 always sits at tilted angle, back higher than the front, with the battery pack acting as raised legs. There are times when you want your notebook PC to lay flat, but that is not possible in this configuration. The good news is the HP MediaSmart home backup server online that enables you to automatically centralize and enjoy your digital media and content.
Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience!

HP's MediaSmart servers are generally used in homes to serve multimedia files across a network, and also used as a data backup device. HP has dropped plans to offer Microsoft's next version of Windows Home Server OS, code-named Vail, in its products, after retiring a line of servers carrying the current version of the OS.To bad, they offered a really good data center security and not just that. However, the company has said it wants to put more focus on bringing out a range of new products based on the WebOS operating system, including smartphones, tablets and printers.
In fact, Windows 7 already most of the necessary drivers for graphics cards, therefore there would be little need to update drivers.
