Palm debuts Palm Pre, WebOS platform

During the recently concluded CES in Las Vega, Palm finally unveiled their latest smartphone, the Palm Pre.

Palm Pre with WebOS

Taking a new approach in designing this smartphone, the Palm Pre integrates a slide-out QWERTY keypad to complement its 3.1-inch touchscreen display which is not usually common in Palm devices. It likewise features a 3-megapixel camera with flash, HSDPA connectivity, Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and EDR, proximity and light sensor, accelerometer, 8GB internal memory, and runs on their latest mobile operating system, the WebOS.

Palm Pre

Palm’s new OS is a huge improvement in terms of visual appeal when compared to their earlier applications, but the jury is still out as to how successful as a platform it will be especially when compared to the iPhone and Android. The WebOS makes use of CSS, XHTML and JavaScript making it compatible with a wide variety of applications, and will likewise be able to connect directly to an app store that Palm will be launching soon dubbed as the App Catalog.

Sadly though, only US residents will get a chance to own one during the early part of this year. The Palm Pre will become available sometime during the first half of 2009 exclusively on Sprint. A Palm Pre GSM version for other market is expected to be released once it makes its debut in the US. Hopefully, that will happen sooner than later because the last thing Palm needs is to follow in the footsteps of the XPERIA X1 and lose whatever interest and fan base it has gained during its announcement due to a delayed release.

i love this phone and its features. from last few days i almost saw every video of palm pre available on the net.

i am just waiting for this device in my hand.

do you know how much it will cost when it is released ?

looks interesting. The storm was a huge disappointment and I am loving my iPhone sooo much. We will see just how this device performs. I am not encouraged to see it only on the Sprint service.

1.I do hope this model has a 3.5 mm headphone jack plug
2.Also hope you have kept the useful removable memory card as on the Palm 680, ( and not having to remove the battery or other opening to access)
3. Also Please improve and provide a better Palm after sales services customer service and tech support services

Thank you

Good luck to everyone at Palm - let’s hope this is a success. It certainly looks gr8.

I just can’t wait to get it here in Europe. I hope we won’t have to wait too much from it’s original release in USA.
Love the features, love the screen, multi-touch and multi-tasking ability, looks perfect :)

It does have a 3.5 mm jack.

Also has removable battery.

This phone is gonna surprise a lot of non-believers out there.

I’m with Francis…any idea how much it will cost? It comes out around time of my 2yr upgrade…I LOVE SPRINT

I have not found a phone yet that could replace by badly beaten and aging Treo 650, but the PRE looks to be the one.

Can hardly wait to get my hands on the PRE.

I wanna play with it first… but it looks so promising… then im leaving att for sprint. :)

One of the biggest things I’m looking for is Visual Voicemail. For me, it has revolutionized the way voicemail is handled.

I too have an aging Treo the 680, but it still does everything I require of it. Hopefully the Pre will be as rugged as the 650/680/750 and not as flimsy as the iPhone. However if Palm really wants to take back the market that was once their they should be looking at rolling out the Pre worldwide as quickly as possible. Or am I going to have to wait 12 to 24 months before it becomes available in the UK?

it really looks good. waiting for it to be release and retire my treo 680. hope it will be able to run all the programs i had in my treo 680.

I hate the small screen, iphone got a 3.5 inch screen. I expect a bigger screen from Palm.

woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow what a nice phone………….!!!!!!!
