Honestly, I would have been shocked it if wasn’t.
Time Magazine has declared the iPhone the ‘Invention of The Year‘ for 07. Writer Lev Grossman says in the mag’s website that despite the hype, the problems and the criticism, “Apple’s iPhone is still the best thing invented this year. ”
Grossman lists five things that make Apple’s iPhone THE gadget of the year:
1. The iPhone is pretty.
2. It’s touchy-feely.
3. It will make other phones better.
4. It’s not a phone, it’s a platform.
5. It is but the ghost of iPhones yet to come.
Grossman elaborates and explains these points and more in his piece, available online here.

The iPhone may not be the best phone out there. Compared to phones such as the Nokia N Series, it has some features that are not available that should be there. But let’s remember that it is version 1. There are improvement that will be introduced in the coming version. Just look at the first iPod. Only 1000 songs. No video. No games. But five (or six) generations later, it has become the standard of music (and video) players in the market.
It is true. The iPhone has somehow raised the bar in the phone industry. I’m sure it came as a surprise to the critics. But that’s technology for you. I’m sure iPhone’s competitors are scrambling in their R & D in coming out with th next iPhone Killer. They should be. If not, they’ll be left out.
This also serves as a lesson to all of us. We should not just rest on our laurels. We should continue to improve ourselves. It doesn’t just apply to technology.
Here’s looking forward to the future of the iPhone.
