Why do Filipinos bet on lotto?

*Squirming in my seat*

I have a confession to make. More than 10 years ago, my husband and I won P20,000 when the lotto ticket we bought had five (I think) winning numbers. We received only P19,000 because we didn’t want to go through the whole process of having to claim the winnings, but since then I haven’t seen P19,000 disappear so quickly!

We haven’t bought any ticket since that day, believing that statistical probability will be against another win. But hey, the jackpot has gone up to P158 million! That can fund the retirement and set up a business. Imagine how many kikay shoes I can buy with that kind of money.

Probably, the worst thing that can happen to me is win! :-D How DOES one write about personal finance after buying a lotto ticket? Hehe.

But a lot of Filipinos are falling in line in lotto stations all over the country, hoping that lightning will strike and tomorrow they will wake up a millionaire. It’s not uncommon for some to use money for the children’s school project to buy a lottery ticket. Click here for a video by our multimedia reporter Erika Tapalla on why Filipinos buy lottery tickets. This guy is resigned to the fact that life may require having to depend on luck.

It is nice to win big amount of money by chance… Ever since I never tried to buy a LOTTO ticket… In 1998, my father almost win 175M but unfortunately he was not able to catch the outlet because it was already closed when he got there… The next day he found the news paper with his maintaned numbers on it as the draw result… He feels so hopeless, disappointed and keep on blaiming himself why… We should be millionaire by now…
My sister has a room mate who is a teacher and has experienced winning the LOTTO first price, that guy was receiving 10,000 amount directly to his account assigned by PCSO. He build a nice house for his family in the province & invested money for business as his gift to his parents.
So nice to hear that people really are winning. At least they used their money intelegently and live happily.
If only, we abolish the mega-LOTTO and super LOTTO to just 5-number combinations only, then their would be a much higher chance of winning. Meaning, more people will win… No need for the pot-money to raise more than a 100Million, Iguess giving away 1Million daily is better so that more people will be blessed. Whats the point of winning 100Million? For just one person…
If we could do things such as WOWOWEE’s “pera o bayong”, then we could see more and more people improving their lives everyday…
If there is a winner everyday, we can see how this money will go… Atleast we could avoid crooks in taking poor people’s money to their own pockets…

Well, The only thing I can say is I don’t blame the people buying lotto to take a change to become rich. I’ll do the same thing, But I only buy lotto once in a blue moon. Ika nga I have to be in a good mood to buy it. There is a saying if you don’t buy you don’t win. As simple as that….

Well, di ba lotteries ay sa mga puritas? Tawag dyan is poor man’s tax. Why? Every poor wants to be rich the easy way. Given na yun di ba. Kaya naman yung iba resorts to scam. Gaya nung mga scumbags na Royal Manchester Five at ang mga hudas mga uragon pa! Grrrr!

“Lotto may be helping the poor but the money also came from the poor.”

“I’d rather help people around me directly that course them through government people who I don’t trust.”

“Also, charity is not government’s role. Gov’t should provide honest and dignified means of living, not encourage mendicancy.”

This is a good idea atleast you know where the money go, I do the same thing yon kapit bahay namin na needed money to take her kid to the hospital I help her. Is not only me but my entire family. Most of our kapit bahay even though we’re poor we help each other in time of need. Iyan ang tunay na filipino. Si Fernando Poe, Jr. also is the real filipino at heart he help alot of people without expecting anything in return. HE GOT HEART OF GOLD.

Its just too bad Fernando Poe, Jr. Die, He is the real servant of god to the filipino people.
God must have plans for him in heaven. You may rest in peace! Amen:
