It was an ordinary Saturday for me last March 22, except for the mangled P500 bill I took out of the BDO automated teller machine. Nope, it definitely doesn’t look like something the girl at SM would take from a customer. After a dismayed sigh, I shrugged it off. A few moments after, I was already contemplating my wet market list and forgot about it.
This morning, I saw the mangled bill again. I must admit I was tempted to forget about it but I could smell a MoneySmart moment, so off I went to the BDO branch near the ATM machine to ask if they can replace the bill.
“I have a sort of weird request,” I told the lady in blue behind a desk. “This is one of the bills I got out of the ATM machine near this branch…” I let my voice trail into a sweet silence.
She wasn’t really surprised, come to think of it. “Wait here, let me ask them if they got the other half,” she said.
After a few minutes, she came back and told me they didn’t find the other half. She wants me to show her the ATM receipt. ATM receipt? It was probably lying down in my sorry excuse for a filing system, or rolled up with all the plastic bags that I came home with after my market day.
“You can also ask your bank to give you a report that will prove that you withdrew from our ATM machine on that day,” she said.
Errr.. sounds pretty complicated. I told the lady with a smile that perhaps I would come back. As I type this blog post however, I’m thinking what if that was my last money and I needed to buy medicine for an ailing baby? What if my son’s graduation depended on that money? Even if I had the receipt today, the faulty ATM would have already caused me grief over the weekend. Shouldn’t the bank be held accountable for that? The lady, in fact, added that they had a similar incident the previous week, showing that their machine was indeed faulty.
Glad that it didn’t caused me much grief, though. Perhaps I should frame it to remind me that money is just money. Attitude towards it is the one that causes either grief or happiness.

Last April, I have to withdraw a certain amount from my PayPal account. Applying for a Unionbank Eon card will take me a week or two, so I inquired at the nearest BDO branch how long it will take for them to process the withdrawal since I have an account with them anyway. The branch manager simply asked me, “What is PayPal?”. St*p*d!!! So dumb she does not know what Paypal is considering she is on the banking business! Duh!

I HAVE TO AGREE THAT BDO HAS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!! FAR FROM CITIBANK!
I HAVE A BDO CARD AND REQUESTED A COPY OF MY STATEMENT VIA EMAIL, IT TAKES THEM 3 WORKING DAYS JUST TO EMAIL THE DAMN STATEMENT. I CALLED AFTER 3 WORKING DAYS AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE TO REQUEST FOR IT TO BE PROCESSED SO I HAD TO CALL AGAIN AFTER 3 WORKING DAYS. I CALLED AGAIN AFTER 3 WORKING DAYS, I WAS TOLD THE SAME THING.
IT HAS BEEN 15 WORKING DAYS NOW. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!
I WILL HAVE THIS CARD CUT AS SOON AS I GET MY STATEMENT!!!!
LOUSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hmph! I didn’t know that BDO services have deteriorated that bad. So far, what I read on this page alone seems that BDO is doing a poor service to the depositing public. That really sucks! I hope that they get their act together since my investment in them have plummeted more than half now. No wonder BDO has plummted so much.
I think we should send them constructive e-mails to act on.

Akin naman mas malala. I work in outsourcing and one of my bosses decided to get me an American bank-based debit card ng Mastercard para sa payroll ko. Pero dito ako sa Pinas based. Two months ago, my boss advanced me $200 because I had gotten the flu and I needed money to go seek medical attention as well as meds and food. I live alone and live near a BDO branch. I attempted to withdraw P9,600 from BDO at 6am (right after my usual shift). Nag-hang ng matagal ang ATM ng branch (sa may Eastwood near Fitness First) and then spewed out my ATM with no receipt. When I went back online to check my account, I found out that the P9600 had been debited! I immediately called their CSR and I was informed that I should inform the bank in the States (which I did) and return to BDO to inquire what I need to do to prove to them that money wasn’t dispensed. Take note na walang security guard at the time when I attempted to withdraw money. Mabilis ang response ng American bank once I emailed them pero they had to depend on BDO to investigate the matter. Pag dating ko sa BDO, I met this Cecille Maramba - supposedly the Marketing Manager of the bank (this was 9:30am). I told her what had happened and somehow, iba yata ang pag-process niya ng information. Because with a condescending voice, she told me that they can’t open the ATM machine for me to get the money. She then laughed at me. As I was already stressed out, I turned my back on her, went back home and called another CSR — who incidentally told me that emailling my bank is enough and no need to go to the BDO branch. Since today, I have yet to see a cent of the money. I still feel pretty bad about it.

[...] Banco de Oro- Ohhh, I have alot to say about BDO, but my favorite CSR complaint came from Salve who got a mangled P500 from a BDO machine. Another one came from Marie Casas who just gave BDO the title Worst Pinoy Bank [...]
