CHerry foodarama- the cheapest of them all!
I find Landmark items much cheaper than SM or Waltermart...
this is so cute! hmm...now, it really makes me conscious if groceries were really offering us the best prices and giving our money's worth. :)
I shop at landmark because it's near my place but I think Save More supermarket is so much cheaper.
Waltermart is cheap.
lahat mura libre pa wag ka lang dadaan sa counter. hehe
landmark supermarket if the cheapest
landmark supermarket is the cheapest
puregold!
I think Casn ' n Carry should be on the list, too.. Some stuff seem to sell cheaper than the ones in SM :D
Bakit wala ang UltraMega sa choices? T_T
we usually shop at pioneer center. prices are also cheaper.
Cherry Foodarama is No 1.
SM is a bit expensive although convenient.
Rustan's?? uber mahal.
Santis?? the delicatessen? grocery na ba sya ngayon? di ba uber mahal rin dun.
my vote goes to Cherry Foodarama!
puregold monumento!
Where is this CHerry foodarama? I'd like to try that cheap grocery. I always thought SM Supermarket is cheap enough already.
cherry fooderama
cash & carry should be included!
it has to be landmark. included in the consideration's the place's accessibility because transportation also costs something.
I go for Cherry.
Barring any considerations, i.e. gasoline or proximity to residence, where have you shopped for groceries that have the cheapest price in general, because no grocery store possibly could have cheap price for every item, I mean some items are more expensive, etc.
In all fairness and objectivity,it has to be puregold. This is the place where sari-sari store owners buy the goods they sell. Try to look at their branch in Tayuman, Tondo.
Makro sells a lot cheaper especially if you purchase in bulk, but they have few branches.
Not included in the list, but Makati Supermarket (Alabang) and Cash & Carry have the lowest priced items, generally speaking.
Senen, I beg to differ. Puregold generally doesn't have the lowest prices. Store owners buy from Puregold because they give discounts to store owner, but not to regular buyers.
I second the motion re: Cherry Foodarama!
Cash and Carry and UP Coop.
I really don't look at the cheapest price. Don't get me wrong, price still matters but I consider convenience too. Here in Qatar, for some reason, you need to go to different stores to knock down your list. I normally go where I think i would be able to buy 75-90% of the items in my list.
But during normal shopping, I do my bulk shopping at a nearby hypermarket. I go here because it's near - it so happen it's known to be cheaper than others. I used to shop here weekly because it's big and has 90% of what I need. But I got tired of waiting/long lines in the weighing, fish and chicken sections so now, I just go here to buy in bulk - detergent, toiletries, cooking oil, etc.
Then, I do my weekly shopping (mostly perishables, veggies, fruits) at a nearby small supermarket. It's a bit expensive by QR 0.25 to QR 1.00 depending on the items but it's so convenient, no long lines and more Filipino food. I save so much time shopping here and I can walk.
If items on my list is mostly Filipno food, I go to the Filipino souq.
Cash and carry, cheaper than other grocery stores and they have 90% of what you need :) The big plus is that it's already a mall now :) ONE STOP SHOP :)
South Supermarket?
HI all,
Im just new in reading this section but i like this frugality category a lot. maybe because I can relate coz am frugal :) regarding the question, I vote for PureGold and South Supermarket. That is where i used to buy my groceries. I find their items cheaper compared to SM. Too bad we dont have cherry fooderama in the city where I live..seems that it got the most votes.
Puregold has way cheaper prices! That's around 10-20% savings compared to SM.
Last month, the Hotel & Restaurant Cost Controllers Association (HRCCAP) conducted a survey on prices of local supermarket chains. Unfortunately, I cannot attach the pdf copy of the result on this reply.
Survey was done on a span of less than 24 hours, from afternoon of July 12 until morning of July 13, with printed receipts to prove this. The establishments surveyed were not contacted, nor were they informed of the attached results as of this writing.
The result from least expensive to the most expensive:
Cherry Foodarama
SM Supermarket (because of 4 yellow tag items)
Robinsons Supermarket
Puregold
Landmark
Rustans
South Supermarket
Summary / Analysis:
1. Cherry Foodarama and SM Supermarket are tied at the lowest priced groceries, while Rustans and South Supermarkets are at the upper end. But if SM Supermarket has no specially priced items (yellow tag), Cherry Foodarama will become the most competitively-priced grocery store.
2. There's a 5% average price difference from the lowest-priced store vs. highest-priced store. If you're monthly grocery expense is more than Php 8,000 or Php 100,000 a year, you could save about Php 5,000 annually if you shift allegiance from high-end to low-end grocery store.
Will the 5% savings makeup for the sacrifice in comfort and ambience? In these hard times, I guess people will prioritize any potential savings.
3. Looks like grocery store chains are consistent on pricing scheme and availability of their products. Random check of SM Centerpoint vs. SM Makati grocery store prices are the same. When Cherry Foodarama Shaw Blvd. and South Supermarket Pasig branches were asked on availability of products which are unavailable on their surveyed branches, they also don't have stocks of same products. On a separate survey of Rustans and Shopwise prices, their price vary only in 2 out of 20+ items surveyed.
4. Presence or absence of loyalty cards has minimal or no effect on grocery stores' pricing scheme. Could be the same on location and store size.
5. Parking fee is dependent on the location. Supermarkets outside or on outskirts of Metro Manila do not charge parking fee.
We're planning to repeat this survey to see the change in prices after 2 months, and we'll also include more supermarket chains.
To those who live near the Cherry Foodarama stores, you are quite lucky.
Noel
i go for cherry foodarama. some items are 5 pesos more cheaper than other grocery store!! believe me meron nga ako nakikita dung mga chinese namimili... hehe
