Pacita U. Juan, owner of Figaro Coffee, said her secret to cutting her electric bill in half is the humble power strip.
Admit it, its such a chore to unplug all devices. So, use the power strip with a switch. Even that telephone charger that hardly gets removed from the socket consumes power and your television set which is always turned on by remote may not be showing images on screen but still consuming electricity.
Agree? Disagree?

i also disagree with the claim. while the tv is plugged into the ac mains, there is a secondary power supply and circuit, mainly the control circuit or channel, but it consumes negligible power actually and won’t be able to consume 1 kWhr per month
how much is 1kWhr these days?
what i’m looking at is using an energy saver for motor-powered appliances like electric fans and aircons. They actually work by correcting power-factor for those appliances. the technology was developed by NASA decades ago and you can even see demos of that in SM

No way… unplugging those electronics appliance from the outlet will not cut your bills into half.
imagine a 200W electronics appliance consumes when turned ON and 1W when in standby mode.
removing elex appliance from the electrical outlet may save you P100 at most.

Hmm, maybe not on half, but a significant amount. I am also guilty of not removing the plug. I bought extension cords with power switches… but now there’s too much wires on my living room ><

I doubt it if doing this will cut the electric bill in half. Although I have great respect for Ms. Juan, I would be more convinced if i read a scientific article or study that provides proof that by just unplugging devices, this will result to a 50% savings in electric bil. Maybe, it could result into some savings but I am not convinced that it will add up to 50%.
