Time deposit: P10,000
Special deposit account: P100,000
Foreign currency deposit account: $1,000
Mutual fund: P5,000
Unit investment trust fund: P5,000
Treasury Bills and Bonds (through banks): P100,000
Account with a stock brokerage firm: P50,000 (but I just learned that at least one has no minimum investment at all)
Priority banking accounts: $50,000 (you will have access to different investment instruments at higher interest and the services of wealth managers or financial planners)

For first-time investors, read this guide: Investment 101 for the first time investor

(Check this spot again from time to time for more updates. The usual disclaimer applies: this is not a solicitation to buy etc. etc. and each instrument is attached to its own kind of risk).

I’m interested in sda & tbills/bonds, can u tell me which banks are offerings these investments & what are the rates & terms? thanks.

Carlos

Check the minimum placements on the products from thrift or savings banks, they usually have lower requirements — and offer higher interest rates :)

@nina - there are savings accounts that need P500 to open but usually you need to raise it to around P3000 (or much more) to earn interest (ex. BPI, Citi Savings, etc) :)

@lance - most of the bigger banks (top 10 in assets) like Metro, BDO, BPI, RCBC, LandBank, DBP, etc offer SDAs and tbills/bonds. I’m not so sure about the rates but as for the terms i think SDAs go for a month, tbills go up to a year, and treasury bonds for more than a year. Goodluck with the investments!

i think it might be a good idea to invest in tbills as the government just hiked its rates by 2%, but lets see what the banks will offer, hehe

thanks Salve for the informative post!

Hello,
I want to solicit ur opinion if it is a wise investment & profitable to invest in Dollar Bonds for 5 years rather than in high yielding government securities for 5 years also. Considering u have P100,000 where do u want to invest it that gives a higher returns after 5 years.
Thanks & more power. i am always reading ur articles.
Goodday!

50k for a stock brokerage account?

last year CitiSecOnline was only 25k

BPI sda bills have the term of 31 days, but “renewable” every after 31 days (or every month).

it has an indicative net yield of 4.45411% fixed per month, but may vary after end of every term. the minimum requirement to get sda bills is 100k, with a 10k increment should an investor wants to go over 100k.

seems like a good investment because it is safe.
