Get Rich Slowly gave me food for thought again today. In his most recent post, he said:
“True wealth has nothing to do with money.”That made me stop and think. I know that’s true. I know that in the end, we won’t bring any of our mutual funds, savings, time deposits, stocks and bonds to the next world. That’s silly, right? I know that what really matters is family, faith, friends, service to others—and these are things that don’t have a peso or dollar sign before them. I know that. And then I looked at things that I have that make me happy. A comfortable home. Gadgets and other stuff. Closets and closets of clothes, bags, shoes, and more clothes. Make-up. Kikay stuff. Toys for the kids. I challenged myself, and asked myself if I truly believed what I have been writing here many times. That true wealth doesn’t have anything to do with money. Sometimes, you think you believe in something and then your behavior says otherwise. Like when you get really upset and yell at the kids because they ruined something—say your Macbook or Ipod. Which is more important? Which is the basis of your true wealth? Hmm. May God grant me a conviction of this liberating belief deep enough to flood my every waking moment. It makes me feel so wonderfully free.
One of the hottest paperback in the US entitled Discovering True Wealth is authored by a Filipino on active service in the Navy who earned big time easy-money,then, due to sudden turn-of-events, nearly lost all his assets, until he discovered what a true wealth is.
I agree, most of us tend to give material wealth our highest priority in life when we should be focusing on our spiritual well being.
money can't buy happiness. but it can buy things that will make you and your family happy. a comfy life requires money.
Sometimes, I wonder about what would happen to me if I lost all of my earthly possessions (sige na nga, money included). Would I make it through life? The answer is YES! I have solid assests - my family - and made the right investments when I chose good friends. And the nice thing about it is that I can carry their love and friendship over to the next life without having to worry about exchange rates and prohibitions! Whee!
you may never bring any material wealth in the next life, but it sure will greatly help your loved ones in this life.

Personally, intelligence, health and well founded moral and spiritual values along with freedom of speech and from material wants are the true measures of wealth.
Oftentimes, the things that we pursue most of the time are not the most important things in our lives.
Health is wealth. A lot of people are ignoring this fact. What good is money and other material things if you are dead at 40.
moderation in everything will provide the true meaning of wealth. Too much of anything {money, friends (are you sure they are ALL your friends?), hobbies, eating,..etc..} will result in less of other things. True wealth can not be just spirituality nor just the money. Both (and other things) must be present in moderation .
Well money isn't everything, that isn't to say that it is nothing. Punishing your kids for breaking your macbook makes sense because they need to learn to respect people's possessions. But punishing them actually has greater value for their life, than your macbook will in yours. I think money needs to come with a balance. With no money and a ton of debt you will never be happy. With a ton of money and no perspective you will also never be happy. My philosophy is be thankful for what you have, always strive for more because you owe it to yourself to do the best you can for youself, but always remember all the money in the world is not worth people who love you, you can trust and you can count on. I wouldn't want to be a billionaire without any friends in the world, but I'd rather be rich and happy then poor and happy.
