Quentin Tarantino wears barong in Ireland

quentin-barong.jpgDIRECTOR Quentin Tarantino must like the barong given to him on his recent visit to the Philippines.

The innovative filmmaker wore the barong at the premiere of his film, “Death Proof,” in Dublin, Ireland. He paired the Philippines’ national shirt with black and white athletic pants, the unusual combo he came up with when he received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Cinemanila Film Festival from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Malacañang, as shown in this file photo.

Quentin’s pants were drenched when he was forced to ditch his flood-struck limo and ride a pedicab to Malacañang amid heavy rain. So he had to change into athletic pants before receiving the award from GMA.

The ensemble must be comfortable — and he must have enjoyed his stay in the Philippines so much (he is a walking encyclopedia of the films of such Pinoy directors as Cirio H. Santiago and Eddie Romero) that he decided to bring a touch of Pinas all the way to Ireland.

i always like quentin’s work. his selections of movie soundtracks are so cool (pulp fic, kill bill).but wearing our national dress outside PI? he’s the coolest dude!!

tutubi

maybe Quentin should also consider using Filipino martial arts in his future movies, not just the Japanese-inspired one :)

bakit proud si QT na suotin ang Barong Tagalog sa ibang bansa gayong di niya naman yun pambansang kasuotan, pero ang mga pinoy najadyaheng suotin ang Barong Tagalog sa national and/or international events? isn’t that a bit ironic?

buti p si quentin, ginanahang suotin ang B.T., yung nga senador at congressmen natin, panay de amerikana. akala nila bagay sa kanila.

lalo tuloy silang nagmumukhang baboy dahil halos wala nang leeg. bakit hindi nila gayahin si erap, i always see him in Barong Tagalog.

TheBarong Tagalog is the best formal
attire to wear all over the world especially
during summer days. I don’t blame T.Q.
if he wears it in Ireland because that part
of the world has a summer time also.

im a cebuano working in dublin and i always watch the six o’clock RTE Irish news. It took me time to realize when I saw him in the telly that he was wearing a BT. I felt so proud about it. I knew that he was in Manila previously.

Casa Tesoro

Quentin was gifted with a TESORO’S barong by the National Commission of Culture and the Arts Executive Director. Cecilia Guidote-Alvarez and by the Film Development Council of the Philippines vice-Chair Christine Dayrit. The Director was presented the 24 hour executed, custom-made barong for his courtesy call to the Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The novel sartorial appearance generated equivocal comments. The LA crowd, seeing the “Barong” for the first time, thought the director looked too casual in his “tie-less” get-up. While Pinoys world-wide applauded Quentin for giving their native dress international exposure.

According to http://www.tesoros.ph Quentin was gifted with a ‘TESORO’S” barong by the National Commission of Culture and the Arts Executive Director Cecilia Guidote-Alvarez and by the Film Development Council of the Philippines vice-Chair Christine Dayrit. The Director was presented the 24 hour executed, custom-made barong for his courtesy call to the Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Tesoro’s must have done such a good job as Quentin saw it fit to wear the barong again and in front of an international media event at that.

Quentin’s patronage of the barong will endear him in the hearts of the movie going Pinoy (Filipino) public for many years to come.
