Fress Gusto was a root beer brand that I knew very well, though I’m sure a lot of people haven’t heard of it — the younger ones might even think this is just an urban legend heh

HERE are two scanned images provided by my friend Mel Dominguez, who used to be a commercial model in the 80s and early 90s.

That’s her on the cover of the short-lived women’s magazine She. This was back in 1983, and the magazine’s cover price was P2.50!

Now here’s a Levi’s jeans ad from 1983. The guy with Mel is actor Cesar Montano, before he entered the world of showbiz.

Here’s what Mel has to say about the hairstyle she was sporting in this ad: “The flip was just going out of style and we were ushering in the ‘Cobra’ style. I was seated on the steps of what was then the Film Center during the Manila International Film Festival.”

IT’S been a long journey, but finally Nostalgic Trip has made its way to the INQUIRER.net Blogs network.

It was a few years ago when I told PR practitioner Mel Dominguez and dotPH exec Emil Avancena (Mel was still the PR of dotPH back then) that one day I would put up a site like this. Katuwaan lang, ‘coz we were having coffee and reminiscing about different products and pop culture stuff from the 80s and even late 70s, and Mel, Emil and I found ourselves saying stuff like, “Remember Choco-Vim? Remember Fress Gusto?”

So I made a go of it last year with a WordPress blog called Nostalgic Trip, and even got fellow bloggers Gary Mercado and Erwin Oliva. It was just a personal blog not related to our day jobs, which first saw the light of day on June 25, 2006. It was fun, katuwaan lang, but we weren’t able to sustain it.

Now, however, I’ve been given the go-signal to revive Nostalgic Trip here, so now we can all wax nostalgic together

So I’m inviting everyone to share their memories and memorabilia, and make the good ol’ years live again. And don’t worry about being baduy hehe
It’s yesterday once more.
