TACLOBAN CITY – More than 2,000 provincial employees will receive P10,000 in extra bonus today.

Members of the provincial board approved on Wednesday an ordinance that sought a P27-million supplemental budget for the extra bonus, Vice Gov. Mimiette Bagulaya said.

During a Christmas party on Tuesday night, Gov. Jericho Petilla announced the granting of the extra bonus, which was in line with an earlier directive of President Macapagal-Arroyo.

Bagulaya said the bonus would be taken from the savings of the provincial government.

Aside from regular and casual employees, hundreds of job order workers, or those hired for special projects of less than six months, would receive P5,000.

Perlita Ripalda, president of the Provincial Association of Government Employees (PAGE), said the capitol workers needed the extra money.

“While the amount may not be that big considering that all prices of our commodities have increased, we are nevertheless happy. This will be a big help to us (employees),” Ripalda said.

The city government of Tacloban has yet to release the extra bonus for its more than 1,000 employees.
