My Christmas wish
By Lope D. Acilo Jr.
CHRISTMAS IS a celebration of the birth of Christ. Gift giving on this day stemmed from the night Christ was born, when the three wise men came to the manger bearing gifts. This is why we give gifts to one another on Christmas.
But to me, an ordinary government employee, who still has a long way to go when it comes to sending my twins and my only daughter, is asking Jesus Christ for a simple gift this Christmas. My only wish is to see my twins pass a government entrance examination for high school. They took the Philippine Science Entrance Examination on Nov. 15 this year and Quezon City Science High School on Dec. 6. They will take the test in the Marikina Science High School on Jan. 10, 2009. For the first two schools, we are still waiting for the exam results. Passing the examination in either of the two will be a very special gift for me, being a father and sole breadwinner for the family. My only wish this Christmas is for my children to have good education.
How I wish Jesus Christ would grant me this meaningful gift. Being a parent, I am anticipating deterioration in our financial capability because of the current global economic crisis. Being a father, I have given my children a good family and Christian values. I provided them the training they needed for those examinations. They are presently in grade six in a Catholic school in San Mateo, Rizal. I have not enrolled them in a review school, mainly because of financial reasons. We believe in the word of God and as a family, we believe in Him. A family that prays together, stays together. Prayers can move mountains and I instilled in my children’s minds that they can do anthing as long as they believe in Him. They just have to do their part by reviewing and Jesus will provide the rest. I strongly believe that my wish will come true this Christmas. God bless us all and Merry Christmas to everyone.
