Mon Tulfo and his idiotic message to Father Panlilio

05/19/07

Posted under News, Opinion Columns, Readers' Blog Posts

I AM happy that the Inquirer keeps credible columnists like Randy David, Walden Bello, Solita Monsod, MLQ III and a lot more.

What I don’t understand is that amid the scholarly written articles, there comes Ramon Tulfo writing about the newly elected governor of Pampanga, Father Ed Panlilio, whom he thought was losing in a fair battle.

I’m really vexed at the thought that the Inquirer also keeps rotten tomatoes like Ramon Tulfo in their newspaper.

Quoting his post:

Priest-turned-politician Eddie Panlilio should shut up if he can’t prove his allegations that his closest rival, Board Member Lilia “Baby” Pineda, committed fraud in the Pampanga gubernatorial race.

As of this writing, Pineda had widened her lead over Panlilio, with the incumbent, Gov. Mark Lapid, coming in third. (Panlilio was proclaimed the winner last nightâ€â€ŔEditor)

Panlilio should stop being a crybaby and admit that he lost in a fair fight. He is barking up the wrong tree since Pineda is not the incumbent. I’m not saying Lapid cheated, but the sitting official usually has the capability to cheat because of power and machinery.

Now, who should shut up? Thank you for telling Father Panlilio to stop being a crybaby, because as of the moment, all his tears are of joy! And who are you to say that Baby Pineda has no capacity to cheat? Come on, I am from Pampanga and I really don’t know if you live here. Mr. Tulfo, I think you’re the one barking at the wrong tree; anyway, dogs really do that sometimes. The next time you write about the results of elections, see to it that you have correctly seen the COCs. What gave you the idea that Baby Pineda won? Strange, really strange. I will just wait for the apology that you will address to Father Ed. Learn your lesson. Thank you.

    Artman,

    TO WASTEDBRAIN
I have nothing against Fr. Panlilio’s governorship in Pampanga if you would only think of the PURPOSE why he ran i.e. to bring back morality to the province. There’s still a separation of the Church and State in the sense that he’s suspended from performing priestly duties. But I believe it’s a step in the right direction for us. Since everyone knows him to be a priest, his actions will be guarded in that he wouldn’t ask for bribes. On the other hand, those who deal with him will not offer bribes.

    gerry Says:

It will be a great challenge for Fr. Panlilio to address the needs of the people in Pampanga. Padilla’s jueting not only provided income for her but funds as well to support all the needs of the people: livelihood, food, medicines, burial expenses, etc., etc., etc. No, i am not saying Fr. Panlilio should continue to allow jueteng. That will be against his campaign promise. But it will be a challenge for him to find the resources for livelihood projects that will make people self-sufficient to provide for their needs. It will not be easy. Local Government allotment would have to be balanced as there are sectors (teachers, gov’t employees) that rely on a big portion of the budget.

Maybe that is what the church is afraid of- Fr. Panlilio’s failure which might reflect on them. It is not easy when people’s expectations are high and then they end up frustrated. The thousands that supported Fr. Panlilio should help support him in this next phase - hire the many who will be dislocated by jueteng and whose families rely on that for survival, provide jobs for those in need instead of giving them dole outs and establishing livelihood projects without the comissions so more people can avail of it. It will not be easy.

First it was Arch Cruz, then Fr. Quitorio of CBCP, now it’s Bishop Dinualdo Gutierrez of Marbel Cotabato.
I respect the view of the Bishop that the Church in Pampanga “has failed to empower the laity.” But it seems to be a too MYOPIC and SHORTSIGHTED view. For WHAT ELSE can you call the THOUSANDS of Pampanagenos who braved the LURE of GOLD - if not goons and guns - just to elect the one whom they believed embodies the GOSPEL VALUES of integrity and service?

My dear Bishop Gutierrez, I dare to say you are WRONG. [Anyway, you did not make an ex-cathedra pronouncement] The LAITY of Pampanga is GENUINELY empowered.

    TO ISABEL BUENCAMINO

PADACA won over DY in ISABELA not CAGAYAN. And yes, Tulfo favors the DYs over PADACA because he is a beneficiary of jueteng money from the biggest jueteng lord in ISABELA- Cesar Dy.

    Paul Says:

Kayo naman, kawawa naman si Mon Tulfo. Inamin namn niyang nag “red face”siya ng malamang nanalo si Fr. Ed. Advice ko lang kay Mon, huwag namang too hasty and too obvious.

Sa English, “Mind your own business.” Salamat po.

Much ado over nothing. Can’t understand what the fuzz is all about. A columnist expresses his opinion about somebody and a situation. Irregardless of whether he is a close friend, was paid, etc., etc., that is HIS opinion. Just like we have our own opinions. Lets agree to disagree. We might not like the guy (tulfo) but he is entitled to his opinion whether biased or not. Its like the other columnists who have their own.

THere is a rampant cheating in SND one of the town in lanao del norte. and even 5 year old as long as you know how to write can vote. They have 16,000 voters but its just a small town.

I would bet on it that Father Panlilio is sincere in serving the Pampangueños. Let’s just wish he doesn’t fall into the trap of Philippine politics…and he doesn’t get rotten like most of them.

Let’s just give him a few years…and then we can have the right to judge him.

To wastedbrain - you cannot invoke the separation of church and state on moral issues.
I hope this will catallyze the true cleansing of the government, for I cannot blame GMA for being trapped in the political tradition of corruption, for this is what I keep on posting on the various websites of Inquirer:
    TO ALL (Young or Old)
Let me just summarize the damages brought by the Marcos regime in our country of which I discussed extensively in my previous post in ‘Make Your Voice Heard’
    1. Disunity because now we are free to voice our opinions unlike during the Marcos era
    2. Constitutional amendments done during the Aquino regime which gave rise to incompetent leaders
These hamper the economic growth of the country. Just allow the President to continue her term and let our economy improve for I believe she is capable of handling it. If we can rise out of poverty, then we can be well educated.
You may consider this post too late but my sole purpose is for the maturity of our voters so that come election time these points are considered in truly making wise judgments in the next election.
If you want GMA to step down because she cheated, then all politicians (except for a few good men of course) should step down because all cheated the country in one way or another with their empty promises.

    Isabel Buencamino Says:

Mon Tulfo is not only disappointed that Pineda lost in Pampanga. He was also frustrated that in their second bout, Grace Padaca won over Dy in Cagayan where jueteng is also rampant. Another source of income quelled for Tulfo. As early as Wednesday, Tulfo dismissed Padaca as a goner accusing her of being ineffectual as a governor, hence, her defeat. But the final count proved Tulfo wrong. Padaca KO’d a jaggernaut in Cagayan the second time around. Media has been accused of trending precisely because of mediocre media personalities like Mon Tulfo, who without basis, make predictions just so his personal choice will emerge as victor. Move over, Mr. Tulfo. Now that your “central asucarera de mama” in Pampanga and “papa” in Cagayan are defeated, it might be wise to change career. Have you ever tried to do a Madam Auring? - predicting the future of politicians?

    gerry Says:

I am happy Fr. Panlilio won. He must now make good on his promise to ELIMINATE jueteng in Pampanga or he will be just like Pineda and company. For those who will be out of livelihood because Jueteng has been stopped, they can go to Fr. Panlilio for food, medicine, education and burial expenses. Being Governor he should be able to support them with their needs. This will be the real test in now addressing the DIRECT needs of the people. Lets see how Fr. Panlilio fares. Let’s see if he can provide an alternative livelihood to the thousands who will now have veer off from the illegall numbers game.

    MBM Says:

I like Tulfo in Inquirer because then, I do not have to read the tabloids. He makes me aware of the forces in society who try to send obvious messages through writers of his kind.

I like Tulfo when he makes those exposes. But between exposes, he serves as a barometer of who to trust in our society. Tulfo is quite transparent because he is not consistent with why he hits people. He is the typical writer who hangs around in hotel lobbies and shoots off the hip with whatever he sees worth mentioning in his column. The man has got to make a living. To me, he’s okay in Inquirer.

The rest of the writers that you had mentioned are academicians whose points of view have been in the molding since their college days.

As a little boy, I was always warned by my parents not to believe everything that I read on the papers. What is read between the lines makes us more aware. I would know what is advertising and what is payola. I also know conviction. This is why the best kick I get with reading the papers is reading between the lines.

There are cowboys, jockeys, and there are equestrians.

Mr. Tulfo surely received tong from Pineda as a payment for him to write a black propaganda against Fr. Panlilio who was surely a winner. Do you believe that Tulfo will side with a person who has nothing to give but rather public services by heart? Never in the history of Ramon Tulfo to side with a person who wont give money in exchange for a good publication. That’s the true personailty of Tulfo.

  48. 4

Tulfo has so many friends who are into hanky panky business. The Pinedas are one. It is Tulfo’s closeness to them ( I have read so many of his columns on which he praised Baby Pineda like a Mother Teresa of sort) that made him bias against Among Ed. Tulfo is not a good journalist. He writes not by his mind but by his emotion.

I absolutely agree. But there is a reason for Mr. Tulfo to say that. You know, “bayaran” siya ni Pineda, What I mean is that nasa payroll siya ni Lilia Pineda, kaya hindi niya magawang magsabi ng masama sa kanya eh… Haaaaayyy, alam mo Mr. Tulfo, marami Kapampangan mapapaaway mo sa nasabi mo sa column mo… Oh pliz, how can you be so sure that Mrs. Pineda didn’t cheat?? Is it becuase she talks so “sincerly” na hindi niya kaya magawang mag-cheat. Ok, relty check Mr. Tulfo, It is confirmed and,i really mean confirmed that Lilia Pineda has done MASSIVE Vote buying days before the Election. And the receiving parties?? Councilors, All Barangay Officials(From the El Kapitan to the Tanod), and even BEIs. Don;t doubt my statements cause this were confirmed from our Barangay officials, and BEIs who, ironically are my relatives. So, who is barking the wrong tree Anyway?
