An 'Inconvenient Truth' (or, Why Trillanes could win)

A QUESTION has been plaguing me ever since the different tallies of the results of the 2007 elections became public. Why is Antonio Trillanes so popular? The truth is that I didn't really believe he would make it to the final 12. I thought he was just filler for the Genuine Opposition (GO), a candidate they included in their slate just to fill the role of Rebel Leader. Yet here he is, No. 9 in the latest Comelec count, with 1, 260, 295 votes. Over 1.2 million people want Trillanes to become a senator! I voted for him, for the following reasons. 1. He has principles. (The reason for the Oakwood mutiny was the corruption in the upper echelon of the military. Most of us like to deny that this corruption exists, for who wants to believe that the nation's defenders are the paid goons of politicians who cheated their way into power? But it does exist. And Trillanes fought against it.) 2. He has courage. (Seriously -- he didn't just risk his career, he risked his life and freedom to do what he did. That took guts. Some would call it stupidity, since he ended up in jail, but hey, he's running for senator anyway.) 3. He has leadership qualities. 4. He has made his antipathy towards an increasingly dictatorial government clear. But I'm not one of those people who only vote for the candidates they think have a shot at winning. The rest of my votes went to Ang Kapatiran candidates, Kiko Pangilinan, and Joker Arroyo. I knew when I voted that only Pangilinan and Arroyo would win -- or at least, that's what I thought then. Now I'm really hoping that Trillanes wins too. After all, since when has having principles or being courageous proven to be a formula for success in politics? Legarda ditched her principles, and she's doing just fine. Escudero's never had the guts to pass a single law while in Congress, and he's doing great, too. I think Trillanes is winning because he reminds people of everything that's wrong with the GMA administration -- while serving as a reminder that such wrongs can be corrected. Let's face facts. GMA cheated. GMA lied. GMA either orders or tacitly condones the murderous activities of her generals. GMA takes credit for an improving economy, holding up as proof the stock exchange and the peso-dollar rate. All that shows is that the rich are getting richer, while the poor -- well, you know how the rest of the saying goes. Trillanes may lose once the votes in Visayas and Mindanao are counted. After all, Visayas is a much-vaunted bailiwick of the administration, while Mindanao is where large-scale cheating occurs without anyone in Luzon batting an eye. But here is the truth which GMA will not be able to deny. Even if Trillanes loses, the very fact that he came so close to winning shows that far too many people hate her. A vote for Trillanes is a vote against GMA. That's what he has represented, all along -- rebellion. It doesn't have to be bloody. That's the difference between a revolution and a rebellion. All Trillanes wants, what he has come to symbolize for the 1.2 million who voted for him, is change.

Triallanes if he wins will send the wrong signal to people: Rebel against the government and destroy it (economically) and be elected Senator. Like Gringo who has almost brought down our country singlehandedly, we are sending the wrong message. I voted for all opposition senators except Gringo and Trillanes for the reasons stated above.

An inconvenient truth, indeed! He's young and his idealism will do him good. But, granting that he wins, will he ever be given the chance to serve the people while incarcerated?

Trillanes is winning but the Arroyo administration is moving heaven and hell to oust him. Being a former Malacanang Press Staff in the past, I got it from insiders that Arroyo is pushing for his conviction for coup de etat even before he sits in the Senate. Of course, the first option was to kill him but the elite force asked to do it backed out, for what kind of soldier could stomach killing someone who fights for soldiers' grievances. They should let Ebdane or Esperon do the job but they're so yellow as their teeth they can;t skin their own cats.

i want trillanes to win because he got the characteristics to be a good leader he possesed the principles to shape the wrong doing into right. He sacrificed a lot just to folow his belief and my belief to oust the unofficial president and corrupt military leaders young people and officers care about future of our country.but our current leader doesn't.

I agree with gerrky...why should we elect someone who wanted to push changes through unconstitutional mean such as coup? It is such a terrible thought that now he is running to be the draftman of the system that he strongly oppose and violated. What can he possibly do to help the poor and move this country forward?...stage another media blitz and say "I hate GMA!" for the rest of his term? I believe we all have conviction, we all have principles, we all have courage, and we all want change....All we have to do is find the right method to convey our grievances that is within the bounds of law...that would be a good example of respect for democracy, and I think Trillanes has no respect for it other than his own pride/principle and what he think as right.

While I respect the opinion of the people who voted for trillanes, i beg to disagree with the reasons they gave about trillanes. for one, i am not so sure if he really had principles. better ask his mistah and the people who know him well if he is a well-principled soldier. if he has principles why then did he try to dupe other officers into joining him in the mutiny. most of the soldiers did not know that they were already staging the mutiny. maybe at the least he is a con artist par excellance.
second i am not so sure if he has courage, he maybe bullheaded but that doesnt equate to courage. if he was really courageous he should have fought within the system and tried to create the changes within it. now he is using his popularity to fulfill his ambition, to be with people like him. lastly, i did not see any of his leadership qualities during and after the oakwood mutiny, he was vociferous and nothing more. he offered no alternative at all to the present structure.
maybe our government needs drastic changes. maybe we need a revolution of the heart. but i am certain, it should not be led by opportunistic people like trillanes. should he get elected, one thing is for sure, crime does pay in our homeland.

Yes, me and my family voted for Trillanes. In fact, I even campaign for him in my own little way. You are correct in saying that 1. he has principles 2. courage 3. leadership qualities. 4. he had shown a clear determination to change the political scene in the Philippines

Trillanes is not Honasan.. They may both came from the military.. but they are different.. I do not know both of them
personally but people could see the difference between him and Honasan. Trillanes is likewise different from other candidates.

I am not anti-GMA nor pro-GMA.. I am simply a taxpayer who personally choose to vote for Trillanes.

No, I did not vote for Cayetano, he's too talkative. Nor did I vote the so-called kamag-anak in the senate. There are others who may be a good senator and may legislate good laws other than the
kamag-anakan..

Finally, let us not crucify and judge Trillanes for the Oakwood mutiny.. we must remember that the military men were constrained to do so because of the lack of political will and because of the corruption in the government.

I am truly hoping that Trillanes will make it to the 12 senators not because i am a rebel myself but because I believe in Trillanes conviction and political will... Let us safeguard his votes.. Let him not be a victim of dagdag-bawas...

How does one qualify as senator?
What is a senator's major task?
Is Trillanes ready for that task?
These are questions that should be answered satisfactorily by one voting sometime to the senate. . . otherwise, we shall just be putting another deadweight in what is supposed to be a hallowed place - for that is where our future is being decided.

one thing you're forgetting is that Trillanes is a well-educated senatoriable. he is a master's degree holder from UP's National College for Public Administration and Governance.

and to those who said he lead a coup, he DID NOT lead a coup/ he lead a mutiny. review your Oakwood mutiny news. did he ask for the government to be overturned in that incident? no. he asked for the relief of the corrupt military brass, whose crimes he came to witness when he was researching for his thesis.

The votes for Trillanes and Honasan are peoples' cries for change. Both have tried the bloody way but failed, and now they are threading the peaceful path by getting elected. I'm proud that I voted for these two courageous gentlemen.

Why crucify Trillanes? Crucify the 1.2m people who voted for him!! Okay, you did not vote for Trillanes, fine, but that doesn't mean you are better than the 1.2m! Come on...away with that holier, better than you attitude.

corruption, is that the reason of trillianes. kaya siya tumakbong ng pagka senador, superiority lang ang gusto nila. walang pagbabago pag naupo siya, masisislaw parin sa pera ang mga yan at lalo pang magiging sakim sa kapangyarihan tulad ni lacson.

I'm not anti nor pro GMA. The point there is there is something wrong with the current administration that's why there will be people (whom do you called rebels) that want it to be corrected. These people wants to have the so-called freedom, justice and equality. But they know they can't do it in a legitimate way because as mentioned, there's really wrong with our government (GREED is one of them for sure). To make it short, just make an anatomy with your family - your son/daughters will become a rebels in your family if you're not doing what is supposed to be.

P.S. Any candidates that have a look on ONLINE(Internet) INDUSTRY. For example, if we have a full-featured PayPal accounts here in the Philippines, it could be a great contribution to our economy. There's none? No worry, we can still receive $ directly even in complicated way and we won't pay taxes. I know it's our duty to pay taxes but it's not worth if the govt. will have no time for it.

Zeny:

First of all I want to thank you, For voting to Capt. Trillanes, And to those who voted for him, And believe for what he is fighting for:

I'm one of these people who really work hard to help him win this election because I know he's the only person who have the guts to stand up to this powerful bugos President of cebu. He got a good chance of winning that if Gloria Arroyo, Cheating operation will not succeed.

When Capt. Trillanes, Went to Malacanyang Palace and talk to Gloria Arroyo, About the corruption in AFP. He was hoping that she would take care the problem. Like she promies she would. But she didn't. If she take care the problem oakwood munity will never happen.

The reason oakwood munity happen because this bugos President of cebu can't throw these corrupt AFP.PNP. In jail where they belong because she's one of them. Remember they're the one protecting her ass from her stolen power. In fact instead of throwing them in jail, Gloria Arroyo promote them to higher position.

I hope and pray that Capt. Trillanes, Win this election.

Santiago Andres:

You have every right to vote whoever you think can run this country better. But you're wrong when you said that Capt. Trillanes, Dump his own comrad to help him coup against this bugos President Gloria Arroyo. Nobody in their right mind going to help somebody wihtout knowing what they're going to do. Not alteast they're stupid.

If you don't believe that Capt. Trillanes, Don't have the guts, Then thats your opinion. Everybody have different opionion. But as you can see there is lots of filipino people voted for him because they believe on capt. Trillanes, For what he's fighting for:

Open your eyes, So that you can see whats going on. The reason you can't see whats going on because you choice not too. All the corruption, Killing, Under the bugos regime of Gloria Arroyo, Right under your nose.

You were saying about rosy economy, My goodness! Where have you been. What rosey, economy are you talking about. I guess you believe what Gloria Arroyo, Were saying! How can you even believe her when she already proven herself to be the nunber one liar.

When Gloria Arroyo, Said that under her bugos regime the enonomy is booming, If its true why is it most of filipino people are starving. The reason for that is because she pad her so call booming economy to make her look good. Just like she pad her votes in May 10, 2004. Presidential election. If this is not a lie I don't know what is.

Just look what happen before election she order all her business partner to lower their prices. But now that the election is over everything going back up!
sino ang linoloko niya if is not the filipino people. I guess its okay with you, Kong habang buhay tayong lolokohin ni Gloria Arroyo, Ako hindi papayag.

Duren:

What do you think Gloria Arroyo, Did to the duly elected President Joseph Estrada, Its a coup! She succeeded her coup de'tat. Against the duly elected president of the philippines.

But you're not saying anything about it. Why? Gloria Arroyo, Broke the law when she kick the duly elected President Joseph Estrada, From malacanyang palace. There is something wrong with you. Wake-up! Baka natutulog ka pa! You better wake-up! so that you can see the truth.

I am to hear comments from gerrky, duren and santiago andres. I don't need to say more.

I am just happy to see Trillanes drop to 13th as we already see the true mandate of the people! Seeing Zubiri and Pimentel moving to top 12 just reminds us that the Philippines is not Luzon country. Both candidates hails from the south, thus as most south votes are counted we will see them there. The dark horse could be Recto who is an incumbent and has national visibility. Cayetano may be having sleepless nights by now, as fighting with the Administration could be costly for him in the South.

I am just sick and tired of Luzonians/ Manilans saying that the South (Vis/Min) votes are rigged if things do not go their own way. The South has the power to change the order in the elections, just as how the South propelled Gloria for the presidency.

Dr. Rico Mandy:

Of course that is not your real name.
Because I don't know anybody by that name in Malacanyang Palace as you say you're an insider.

Either you're Capt. Trillanes, Supporter or not and you know that they're going to do something bad, Are you just going to set and let them do it. If so, Din talagang wala ng pagasa pa ang atin bayan.

I believe what you say that if Capt. Trillanes, Going to win they're going to have him kill. If they won't succeed on their cheating operation. Thats their last option. When that happen, Do you think the filipino people going to take it sitting down? Gloria Arroyo, Might just find herself to the cabbage patch field. If I were her, She better think again.

Ernie:

Answer to your question. Yes, If Capt. Trillanes, Win this election he can serve the filipino people from his jail cell.

Gerrky:

You're wrong! When you said that if he wins it will give a wrong signal. Capt. Trillanes, Didn't destroy the philippines economy. Gloria Arroyo, Did. And thats the truth. And just to let you know my entire faily voted straight opposition, Capt. Trillanes, is number one! Thank you, For voting opposition.

Courage???? Again and again I read about courage. Courage???? He holed himselfup in a hotel full of civilians including newborns and infants. Remember the shot on ABS-CBN when the hostages came out? Very small kids taken hostage by a not so brave big man. What is the courage in taking unarmed civilians and use them as human shields? Why did he not attempt to take over some barracks or Camp Crame? Ah, of course, the people there would have shot back. This shows how much courage this candidate has.

trillanes led a mutiny because he cant take anymore the likes of general carlos garcia in which he amassed millions of the funds in afp. period.

I voted for Trillanes because of the reasons stated above. Also, I believe that the only one who can meet a bully head-on is one who knows how to handle one. Or at least, someone who tried.

And no, reforms in the military cannot be started from within. We have high-ranked generals who will make sure that no amount of reforms will ever circumvent their money-source.

If you want constitutional thing you end up to nothing. If you are in the position or the in the power you have all the rights, if you are rich you all the rights to do, if you are poor like us you end up into jail and waiting for justice which is the justice in Philippines is only for the rich.
God Bless Filipinos

How can we expect the Philippines to move forward if many educated, supposed to be principled Filipinos can vote for a person like Trillanes. I have nothing personal against the guy. He has charisma, his gripes were and still are legitimate. But what would happen to our country if every officer in the military who has legitimate reasons to complain stages a coup and run for public office?

If Trillanes were man enough and really has principles as most of his voters insist, then, why did he not resign from the military and pursue his crusade for good government within the legal means? His case is similar to Honasan who used his charisma to hoodwink comrades in arms to rise up against Cory. We know that after the 1989 coup, the Philippines never recovered again under Cory when prior to that the economy was doing well.

I would give my firm handshakes to the NPAs who fight the government without salary. This Trillanes is a traitor to his oath and the principles of the military because he wants to enjoy the perks that his uniform brings but destroy the same institution from which side his bread is buttered.

If a good man like our blogger finds principles radiating from the aura of Trillanes, then, I would say, our country is indeed going to the dogs. Must every man with legitimate causes just can take up arms and rise up against the government?

Oh well, and we still expect the country to progress huh? Please Mr. Blogger, stop telling that GMA cheated. During the 2004 elections both sides cheated not in their personal capacities but their minions in the field. Pray tell me, how come, almost everyone is convinced that the GO won based on the exit polls and the running polls of SWS & Pulse Asia? Didn't these two entities also proclaimed in 2004 during their running surveys and exit polls that GMA was way ahead of FPJ going to the election day and was 10% ahead of FPJ in the exit polls?

Let us not becloud our thinking by our hatred and aversion to GMA and her government.

Trillanes is one of the guys who I want to become a senator. I admire his courage, and his leadership. The Philipines now need a leader like him who has the guts and principle. Discard all those trapo they are menace to the society. I remember when I was one an activist who really wanted change and we did the same thing ... stand out and declare our disagreement with the government. Please guard his votes.

Principles sometimes doesnt give good results.... Just like "Rebelion" and stuff.. trillanes and Honasan keeps on Organizing.... It has bad implication to our economy.... Filipino's are risk takers... Ohh Well!

I think its sad that many Filipinos still believe in such gimmicks. When will we ever learn? Most of the GO candidates have been in the senate for a long time now, and what did they do? nothing, now they promise to help the poor, again? How could they help? Another coup perhaps.... People power..... sad isnt it?

Trillanes, whatever good you think he has done is a mutineer. His insubordination cannot and should not be overlooked. He is a soldier/seaman who has led other to mutiny. If that is the leadership skills you seek then you get what you vote for. He never even had the guts to see the mutiny through instead used the lack of peoples support for his cause. Well if the voting count is done and he wins, then it will have proved him a liar that he said he never had the support of the people. That he never saw the mutiny through is cowardice. That deals with the courage part. No soldier in his right mind or ethics will ever follow an officer like him. Not me. Principle is an easy thing to say that you have. When he mutineed, broke his oath. There goes his principle to be justified by a new one. That takes care of your leadership qualities. The left has been critical of all administration after Marcos including the supposedly mandated Erap. Which is so confusing since the same leftist nutcases that ousted him can now be seen together with his supporters to oust GMA. Trillanes is another Gringo. Remember how you felt for Gringo Honassan when he first ran for the Senate? Same thing with Trillanes. Once Trillanes steps into power, more power than a LT-SG could ever have, he'll go the same way and fall in love with the money. Because he'll have to compromise between his benefactors and his principles and the money that comes in between.

its wrong to say that trillanes may not be included in the magic 12 because the adminstration will "move heaven and hell to oust him", let the count end.

I hope he wins, and survive any assasinations that may come. Poverty is the root of all crimes. Pag may corruptions ang gobyerno nawawalan ng pera to promote livelihood, agrarian reforms, etc. so hindi umaasenso ang buhay ng pilipino. I hope a true Leader like him wins. Sorry andres santiago you are out of line, you don't make any sense at all, ! what bullheaded doesn't equate to courage? hey help me hear. his fellow soldier doesn't know about it??? What are you talking about.???

A lot of people wanted to leave our homeland merely because of poverty, but there is a clear rationale why people like me decided to migrate. We are tired of Philippine politics, the way politician manipulates the system. There are no longer a political lobby- just personal interest and the interest of people around them. We are tired of people coming from the military like Ramos, Lim, Honasan and now Trillanes? I tell you the truth, for us no longer live in our country have the same sentiments in regards to politics. You will see more Filipinos filling their application to different embassies, a clear indication that people like us had enough.
Our homeland is a lot better without military people entering politics.

Trillanes winning a Senate seat is within the realm of possibility but that could not be considered a feat. Why, even Honasan, who staged several failed coups, with some of them killing several innocent bystanders, won when he first run for senator during Ramos' presidency. Most Filipino voters do not think critically when they vote. Those who voted for Trillanes are the same voters who voted for Erap overwhelminghly as President. Salonga did not even merit their consideration that was why he placed fifth, tailing even Imelda Marcos. Those who voted for Trillanes watched too much ABS-CBN programs where Trillanes and other opposition candidates were given much prominence (sort of free campaign ads from the network) and read much tabloids like the ABANTE. They thought they were voting for a ROUNIN character whose exploits were romanticized.

You said: "Let’s face facts. GMA cheated. GMA lied." You're wrong. While you're rejoicing that Trillanes seems to be winning based on quick counts and surveys, you choose to ignore the fact that the quick counts and all the surveys just prior to the 2004 election, as well as the exit polls conducted by a firm headed by a cousin of FPJ, indicated that GMA won the election fair and square. Millions of Filipinos voted for her, and their votes should not be stolen by saying that GMA rigged the election. Whenever some people say that GMA cheated, they are the ones cheating or robbing her of her much deserved victory.

how could you fight "within" the system if it is already corrupted? Since the beginning of that mutiny, Trillanes himself, explained and insisted that what they are doing is just to air their grievances to the government who's continually acting blind, deaf and mute to the grievances of the soldiers. What this government is projecting is a strong-willed military organization. True, but only for the senior high-ranking officials who are very well pampered by the Arroyo Administration. I personally know this because Arroyo gave the stars that my father carry on now in his shoulders. This government doesn't know what the soldiers in the field really feels.

I could personally say that Trillanes has a lot of courage and guts to turn down his very promising military career in exchange of principles. Only a few knows this but an officer in the military, especially if someone retires as a general could get retirement benefits that sums up to a hundred million pesos or more.

When you're really close to the president, you could end up appointed into a key government department.

For the past years,we have been longing to have an honest change in the political environment of our country in order for us to have economic and social changes as well. This means saying good bye to traditional politicians who had managed to stay in the senate not in consideration of common Filipino good but yes,in their vested interest.Trillanes' oakwood was idealism in action. And this senatorial seat is a doable and a workable aspiration.Trillanes once said that change in his country may not happen in his lifetime. But after his capture, improsonment and trial, now he could have a chance continue his abrupted conviction and pursue the changes he,I and perhaps the so-far-one-million-two-hundred-thousand-and-counting Filipinos would want in our country.

TO ALL (YOUNG AND OLD)
Well, I know Trillanes has good intentions but he's going above the law shows he has no respect for the system he finds corrupt but he singled out this administration. The reason for Escudero's popularity is, apart from his looks and being articulate, is riding on the current unpopularity of the president.
Indeed we are not ready for a genuine democracy because majority of our voters are poor who rely mostly on personalities instead of issues. That’s why there’s rampant vote-buying on both camps. So it becomes a choice of the lesser of two evils. You have to prioritize the economy first which I felt GMA is most capable of doing. It is for that reason why I support her. I’ve experienced different regimes starting from Marcos. Let me just share with all of you the extent of the damage the Marcos regime inflicted on our country that will hopefully enlighten all readers. During the Marcos era our country was at some point placed under Martial Law. So that all who oppose him turned out to be heroes, injured (like Jovito Salonga), tortured, exiled or killed. So the environment then was gripped with fear. Although Martial Law was eventually lifted, Marcos remained in power so fear was still there. I remember the time when we had to watch the Aquino assassination on tape and in secret even while at home because of fear. The middle class (where I belong) participated in Edsa I. With his ouster, the media and congress became free to oppose the government. Too free in fact, that Senators/Congressmen seem to oppose for the sake of opposing to gain media mileage and free publicity. We became so divisive that would scare potential investors away. The constitution was then amended to avoid a repeat of the Marcos regime so that qualifications to run for public office were lowered that even a high school graduate can run. But this has been exploited by some who, knowing their popularity with the masses as actors/actresses, ran for public office even if they have little or no background at all on public service. Because most of our people are poor, then all forms of enticements catering to the masses were employed, like endorsements by famous celebrities and rampant vote-buying.
Our nation is respected now because we have a capable president. It is not enough to say you have a heart for the poor, for it takes more than heart to run a country.
Definitely a change in the system is required because the current system does not address our needs anymore, in fact it hampers further growth in our economy. Our democracy is unlike other countries because our country constitutes mostly poor people.
I am wary of the young new breed of oppositionists who are deemed to make it to the senate like Chiz Escudero and Alan Cayetano. I think their only agenda is impeachment and nothing else. What disturbed me is why they chose to run under the GO banner which is obviously headed by the Estrada clan with no less than the former president advocating on national television for the people to revolt against corruption he himself is facing, and its former campaign manager in the person of San Juan mayor JV Ejercito, instead of running as Independents as what Francis Pangilinan did. That in itself should have made their voters think twice about their real intents. I’ve also read that Chiz Escudero CO-AUTHORED only about 2 bills I think while Alan Peter Cayetano had none while they were in Congress. I have a feeling that young as they are, they’re already skilled at manipulating the voters for their selfish ends. Hope I’m proven wrong.
You may consider this post too late but my sole purpose is for the maturity of our voters so that come election time these points are considered on the next election.. I am pleading to everyone to PLEASE let the president do her job and yours as well. Leave the investigations to the media.
If the impeachment complaint will again be about cheating, then all politicians should step down (except for a few good men of course) because they all cheated the country in one way or another with their empty promises.

To everyone, I feel it imperative to share this with all of you because I feel that not all voters are aware of the extent of the damage during the Marcos regime. It becomes easier now to share my views due to the Internet. You may amend some points but please retain the essentials and forward this to as many voters as possible. If you don’t agree with some of my points, do tell me and I will of course defend myself. For those abroad, kindly exercise your right of suffrage noting the points I raised. I feel that GMA is our best chance to turn our economy around that’s why I’m doing this now as a concerned citizen.

I also voted for Trillanes and campaigned for him, though not officially. I asked my friends and family to vote for him for the reasons stated above plus my own reason, intelligence. I respect a man with intelligence, much more with principles. I wish that he could really win, but with only 5 watchers, I'd expect his votes massively shaved and him being dropped in the top 12. I pray that he would win which shows that the people (and the youth vote) shows what the vote of the people is all about.

About the courage of trillanes, if he knows on what he believes is right he should pursue on that oakwood mutiny even if it would cost his life, and not the other way around of surrendering to the present government that I think has lost its credebility, the moral to govern, and the support of our countrymen. Sad to say, it seems like hopeless our government runs by the very same person that only thinking of themselves and not for the country or the people that they fooled by giving promises during election like this. We need change and in order to have that we must have a leader that is willing to take the risk even if it would cost his life but trillanes and company lost that opportunity. Changes cannot be achieved on the senate.

Look at all the idealist, the nationalist back in the day. Where are they now? I hope he rots in jail for we won't need him to make our lives better. He is nothing but a paranoid imbecile who thinks that people are there to get him. You people should hear him speak. His statistics paper should have gotten an F for effort.

much as i agree with what has been positively said about Trillanes, i would have to concede to the idea that a vote for him sends all the wrong singnals.

it might be that he's courageous, it might be that he's principled and that his battle against corruption in the military serves us all for the better, it might be that the layers upon layers of corruption has to bear a percentage of blame on why he's in jail, but there's no denying the fact that he's in hot water, to say the least, for something that he did.

but for all it's worth, with all that is right and wrong in Philippine politics, i just hope that WHEN he wins, he'll make a dent for the better.

I dont know what goes in to the head of filipinos? why vote a person who doest reconize our laws? who doesnt know anything (just to oust GMA). Do you think that mutiny helps? Thousand of Filipinos didint went to work becuase of those unwanted incident. Thousand of filipinos lost their income becuase of that mutiny even a fishball vendor in Makati where broke that time becuase of that mutiny. Please tell us how he can help this dying country.

This administration is already destroying the economy because she cheated her way to become the president of our beloved country. Trillanes is only rebelling against an illegal government and the generals who staged their own coup through cheating the people. So what is the wrong signal being sent by electing Trillanes?

We are sending the correct and rightful signal that this administration should be ousted and prosecuted for their crimes against the people.

no one is perfect, but at least trillanes is more credible and honest than pichay & defensor.

Trillanes is my guy! Actually I voted for entire GO slate. GMA doesn't deserve to stay further in Malacanang, she didn't win any elections anyways. Ang kapal talaga!!!!

Am not a voter but even if i am I will never place a position for either Trillanes or Gringo on my voters slip. There are so many candidates I could make a choice from and deserve to be in an office to run for the country but not this two who can't think better, not even a slightest bit, for the country that this two says they loved "kono". They almost have destroyed the Philippine's credibility and nearly brought it to the brink just when it is coming out above water for the world to see. Everybody wanted to run and become the president of the Philippines but really unable to run efficiently for the world to see and take note.Do you think this two can bring the economy to a "B" ?

I voted for Trillanes because I hate this government. I am not a rebel, and I do not consider Trillanes a rebel. But if somebody will call him a rebel, well, consider me one as well as the millions of Filipinos who voted for him. He is just a courageous man longing for change - a change that will hardly be achieved through the current election process. I really hope that he wins in this election. May God bless him.

I hope Trillanes wins. The current political system is so corrupt that we need a young idealistic revolutionary to shake things up. So what if he participated in a mutiny? I will also be a mutineer if my leaders are thieves and human rights abusers. I will be a mutineer if my commander-in-chief is a fake, someone who cheated to become a fake President. Why be a doormat like most of our kababayans. Inaapi, Inaabuso at isaapakan na ang mukha tatawa-tawa pa.

what trillanes did in oakwood, he did it for us. in a country where diplomacy is a thing of the past, drastic measures should be taken. for the love of country he risked his life and everything that goes with it in doing what we should do fight for our rights and fight for our freedom against the tyranny of the so called arroyo administration. people like trillanes are needed in the government to initiate changes that will steer our country right on track. no matter what kind of measures are taken to initiate changes in our country my heart goes to people like trillanes! at least he had the balls to speak out when we the majority of the "masa" just stand and watch in the sidelines watching these people risk everything just to have the proper changes needed for our country because up until now we never learn from history, we still swallow the bitter pill, when will we ever change?

People are sick and tired of this administration that they have resorted in voting for the opposition. Hes winning but look closely, in a matter of minute, senators from TU will dominate the canvassing. The same corruption exists not only in the military but also in the electorate. Dont let him a victim of two evils at the same time. We need someone who will fight corruption and graft through violence or non-violence means. Its time for the country to move on.

More like an opportunista. When he was still in military ang sabi niya nilabanan daw niya ang maling sistema sa procurement ng Navy. And at the same time, kumana rin siya sa labas ng mga gawain na hindi masasabing galaw ng isang officer and a gentleman.

Ang pananalita niya habang siya ay iniinterbu ay puno ng poot at sama ng loob. And he want to be elected to oust somebody - hello but thats not the job of a senator.
