The tide of protest votes

IF we look at the results of the recent elections, both at the local and national level, I can’t help but see a tiny glimpse of hope budding up.

That is if we have to believe the analysis of the press of the circumstances surrounding these results. We are witnessing an upsurge trend of protest votes not only against GMA, but also against the system as a whole.

If for that alone, there is reason to begin investing our hopes on better politics ahead…

in as much as i would like to be optimistic on the future ahead i still think that there is still much hard work to be done not from the officials we voted this election but from us citizens ourselves. you see, they are only as good as how much we cooperate with them and do our part.

what im afraid would happen is that, the moment a certain senator would try to be a hero for all, the rest of the upper house would find a way to distroy his charater coz they very well know he would be a threat to their political career.

i think that is where the problem is, most politicians if not all sees public service as a profession rather than a vocation. The differens is the former is paid to do his work while the latter works because of love irregardless of pay.

another thing that im afraid would happen again is this “so-pinoy-mentality” where we vote for who we think is superman and when that superman sits in office we expect that he will solve all our problems by himself while we go on with our routine, i.e., disobeying traffic rules, litter, cheat taxes, engage in blackmarket, and when that superman is found to be not so super at all after a year or two we then start to mobilize our barkadas and have picnic in EDSA. then we sleep thinking we did our part as citizens, we’re the new heroes.

yeah yeah, mabuhay ang mga bagong bayani!

I hope this awakening in the Filipino psyche gathers momentum and will lead us eventually to a politically matured country devoid of undesirable people in power.
