IF we look at the results of the recent elections, both at the local and national level, I can’t help but see a tiny glimpse of hope budding up.
That is if we have to believe the analysis of the press of the circumstances surrounding these results. We are witnessing an upsurge trend of protest votes not only against GMA, but also against the system as a whole.
If for that alone, there is reason to begin investing our hopes on better politics ahead…

Palace hits Pimentels over ‘unfounded’ accusations of fraud
ADMINISTRATION officials on Friday accused Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. and his son, Genuine Opposition (GO) senatorial candidate Aquilino III, of conditioning the minds of the public that they were cheated off their possible victory in the elections by threatening to file criminal charges following alleged election sabotage and election fraud.
Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) spokesman Sergio Antonio Apostol said the threat of Aquilino Jr. to file the charges is aimed at saving face in case Aquilino III loses.

“In the first place, what the hell is Palparan doing in Lanao? The people there are already terrorized by warlords. They don’t need a berdugo to terrorize them some more into voting for GMA’s candidates,” ayon naman kay Bayan Muna party-list Rep.

Arturo Lomibao at retired military Gen.
Sa panig nina PNP chief Director General Oscar Calderon at AFP chief of staff Gen.
It can make or break a candidate from the 9th position down to the 12th slot.”
(Rose Miranda/Tina Mendoza/Al Jacinto/Nilo Marasigan

If they really want clean election Eh bakit si Palparan/Esperon and pinadala doon.
If we remember on May 10, 2004. Presidential election these two are one of the people who do the cheating operation for Gloria Arroyo, To ensure her winning. Talagang walahiya itong Bugos President of cebu. Bitayan silang lahat.

What protest vote? If the people really wanted GMA removed, they could have easily voted all opposition candidates in the local level.
Do not forget that impeachment is initiated in the Lower House and not the Senate. What will the preponderance of opposition senators do good to the country? They can whine, whine and whine but GMA remains the President. What will be the victim? The country and the people at large.
What the results in the recent election point to is the continued stalemate in the legislature. The victim is the legislative agenda of the Administration for the next 3 years. Maybe, we will be seeing a re-enacted budget year in and year out until 2010. And we expect movement in the economy?
The problem is we dwell too much on GMA when all she’s got is 3 years and she’s gone. We want to punish GMA not knowing that by being too personal, it is not GMA who is the victim but our country.
What? Electorate has become discerning? Come on. Come 2010 when at least 3 of the GO senators will run for the presidency and tear one another apart, we will see the same spectacle of voters selling their votes, candiates out-spending one another.
The problem is not GMA but the system and the people. We are quick to blame others specially GMA but we forget that as citizens, we are even worse. Just look at the streets everyday how we as a race behave.
