Erap: ‘I have no intention of running’

- 2010 Elections, Joseph Estrada -

WILL he or won’t he?

Deposed president Joseph Estrada is now saying he has no intention of running for president in 2010.

Here’s an excerpt from the INQUIRER.net Breaking News story:

Estrada said that statements coming from his camp that he would run anew were aimed to challenge the opposition to be united and put up a common candidate in 2010 to ensure the opposition’s victory.

“Bakit sila matatakot, wala naman akong intensyong tumakbo [Why are they afraid. I have no intension of running],” he said. “I have no intention of running … I want to give chance to young leaders, to their advocacy, their idealism.”

He said he did not want a repeat of the 2004 presidential race when the opposition had other candidates other than the late actor Fernando Poe Jr.

He added he believed 2010 would be an opposition year, more so if they would unite and support a common presidential candidate.

What if Erap wins again?

- 2010 Elections -

IT’S 2008 and as the headline of this Philippine Daily Inquirer story puts it, the “Rat race for Palace is on.”

As you can see, we have renamed our Eleksyon 2007 blog to Philippine Elections as, for better or worse, the country turns its attention to the 2010 polls.

What do you think of the prospects of deposed president Joseph Estrada running again for president, and possibly winning in 2010?
