By Harvey Keh
ON MY way to work this morning, I heard some disturbing news about the results of a supposedly Malacanang-commissioned confidential survey on the early ranking of possible Presidentiables showing that former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada was on top with a 23 percent rating. The survey also showed Vice-President Noli De Castro in second place with Senators Francis Escudero, Manny Villar, Loren Legarda and Mar Roxas lagging behind.
I am personally saddened by the results of this survey if indeed this was conducted scientifically and accurately. I’m wondering if Filipinos have actually forgotten the crimes that former President Estrada has committed, including his involvement with illegal gambling operations that eventually led to his ouster in 2001. Have we also forgotten that this was the same man that was convicted of Plunder charges just a year ago?
Yet as I reflect further on the results of this survey, it appears that majority of Filipinos are now very disgusted and disillusioned with the present administration that they are willing to bring back a convicted plunderer in the hopes that he will do a much better job of running the affairs of our country. While I agree that many of us have lost hope and trust in the Arroyo administration, have we also lost patience in looking for new leaders who can effectively and ethically lead our country that we have to settle for former President Estrada? Have we chosen to give up and just accept that we can never find a better leader other than Erap? I would like to continue to believe that there are still many good, effective and well-meaning government leaders in our country who may not be as popular as Erap, but can do a much better job in helping our country move forward at the pace of our Asian neighbors such as Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, China and Vietnam.
As much as I believe that the opposition should unite under one common candidate if they hope to be able to topple the political machinery of the incumbent administration in the 2010 elections, choosing Erap will not send out a clear message of promoting change and development in our country. Many Filipinos especially those living abroad are now looking for a Filipino leader that will really work for genuine and lasting positive change in the lives of every Filipino most especially the poor and the powerless.
Let us all remember that change in our country cannot happen overnight and will not be delivered by just one person, it will take years of good governance, ethical leadership and the proactive social involvement of every Filipino if we want to achieve lasting peace, prosperity and progress for our country.
In this age of rapid globalization and migration, if we elect Erap back to Malacanang, we will not only continue to become the Sick Man of Asia but we will also become the Laughing Stock of the World.

i do agree in the article, although in my own point of view,Erap is LESS evil than the present administration, it’s not still convincing that the leader that we’ve been looking through the years that would materialize the real change in our present condition would be Erap. We have leaders that are far competitive, more effective and with real heart to help the Filipino people. WE should also eliminate the usual practice in our political system to tap traditional politicians in every top post in the government. WE have lot of political leaders that are young and more effective than those politicians that were considered in the high profile positions…

Hello Harvey,
Sometimes, I thought, my being a Filipino is just an ” accident ” ..It’s really very frustrating, subalit, parang ” hindi na kaya natin ito”…You can still try as a youth leader, for HOPE…We will pray for you. The end of times is soon coming, and ” our Juan de la Cruz ” will never recover. The philippine independence is becoming useless. Pabor lang sa mga “tuso”, not for the general good of the country!.

I’m not surprise with the result… Corrupt people always vote for corrupt politician!… vice-versa….

Interestingly, if I remember it right, majority of Filipinos surveyed right after Estrada was ousted also did not believe the allegations raised against him back then. Despite its noble intentions, EDSA II was mainly a Manila-centric, middle class preoccupation. The majority of the people - the masa - has always been for Estrada. We probably need to consider why the disenfranchised has always been and at least in the near future always be supportive of Estrada or what he represents.

Former Philippine President Joseph Estrada can no longer run for president under the Philippine Constitution of 1987.

Mr. Keh’s piece embodies most of the ideas I have in mind about this subject. In addition, re-electing Erap is like sinampal ang mamamayan sa isang pisngi. Tapos sinampal uli sa kabilang pisngi. If Filipino voters elect him back to office, no one in his right mind will blame Erap. The voters will have themselves to blame because the personality of Erap, as evidenced by his last performance, is describable as arrogance, walang hiya, mangluluko sa masa pero parang hindi naiintidihan ng mga masa kasi nabubulag sila sa kanyang lies and bola, greed and hypocrisy. Partly to blame if this ever happens is Gloria Arroyo who pardoned him even before Erap had a chance to ask for pardon. This was pure insanity on the part of Arroyo.
I just hope that this will never, ever happen. God forbid.

perhaps we should get Among Ed to lead the country.
Jose Ramon Albert
There should be not much concern about this if one considers sample proportions as having margins of error… Erap does have his following. Whether the current “lead” is real, depends on this margin of error of the estimate, as well as non sampling errors, i.e. what survey firm did this? A firm with repute or a fly by night?
The response to a survey question on this certainly would depend on the list given… if the list were narrowed, then the answers may have changed.
One must be extra cautious analyzing things at this point… Let us not put too much into this.

we filipinos deserve to be miserable. we don’t elect the best leaders. erap for 2010 will be another six years of corruption and inefficiency. we must not complain if we are poor. we only have ourselves to blame.

It means that the real number on problem of the philippines is Poverty, no wonder the term called Erap is still the no. one choice of most pilipinos, and Joseph Estrada is synonymous with that problem, but it would be futile to bring back a convicted plunderer and a womanizer, so most pilipinos should think of other alternative, who is a person without kulasisi and the best choice for the presidency is Governor Ed Panlilio, a priest with a million supporter of hoping for a change to a magandang kinabukasan ng ating Bansa. He has done a wonderful job in Pampanga where he has gained more quarry tax revenue and a bag of supot worth 500 thousand pesos, that would be a good kickstart to end corruption of the philippines.

ERAP LEADS IN MALACANANG SURVEY OF 2010 PRESIDENTIABLES
Everybody knows Erap fanatic Ernesto Maceda’s credibility is all shot, but on rare occasions he makes statements worth pondering like this one.
He claims Malacanang surveys of 2010 presidential wannabes show Erap is a tad ahead of Noli. That bit of news makes one wonder what to make of it than dismissing it outright had Maceda said the survey was done by Erap himself.
In his tabloid column, Maceda writes that a recent Malacañang-commissioned survey had the following result:
Erap Estrada — 23 percent
Noli de Castro — 22 percent
Chiz Escudero — 17 percent
Manny Villar — 14 percent
Loren Legarda — 10 percent
Mar Roxas — 8 percent
Maceda is a smart, scheming operator his reputation precedes him. If his report is false Malacanang will deny it. But if indeed the survey is correct it goes to show there are more Pinoys who are like clueless idiots unaware of what has been going on. Either that or the morons prefer a criminally inclined leader, preferably with criminal conviction, one who has committed the highest capital offense the better. But when things go wrong, they are the first ones to complain the government has become a shit hole for corruption.
dimasalang
we have long been the Laughing Stock of the World when we let the remnants of Marcoses settle back as if nothing happens.
are we too forgiving? i don’t think so because Marcoses & Erap did not offer apologies and were even defiant.
sadly we are just plain stupid.

God, is there no one else in this country but these filthy and incompetent persons? Erap for president?! (again!), This notwithstanding EDSA 2, notwithstanding his fabled gambling escapades, his mansions, concubines and legendary uncouthness. Oh, and his scary sons and his faithful wife who are all keeping the family’s political torch alive. What is it with this country that it refuses to learn from its very recent history? Its been just seven years since the guy was convicted of plunder! I know most Pinoys hate the current president, but to even entertain the thought of Erap running for, and winning the 2010 elections is unimaginable.
Ludwig Mark Rosete
A very disappointing news. But certainly I’m not giving up with our country. I’m not concerned really who will be the next president as long as he/she wouldn’t do anything stupid that would be catastrophic to business. Entrepreneurship is the answer to uplift our people from poverty.

Mr. Harvey S. Keh,
Who do you think will be the best person who can lead the country today?
You seemed you are trully convinced that ERAP is guilty but the people who claimed to be rigtheous are the one proven to be guilty not by our own Courts of Law. (Take note: I have no more trust in our own Court of Law but only table tennis court!)
Isn’t it that the voice of the people is the voice of God!
Let me asked you a question - If you are not a sinner then cast the first stone!
Let’s be God fearing Filipinos. Its only God who can make judgement and not you nor me.
To me there nothing exist such as opposition or administration. A person who wish to serve shall not associate with those from opposition nor administration but by both. The common denominator is the peop[le they planned to serve.
May God bless you.

Erap is the recreation of the media who hates Gloria. We are not yet ready for a change cause our masa intelect are the ones deciding our leader.

Bayani Fernado or Erap !!!!

hhm.. i guess, filipino people are for ERAP still despite of the fact that he was ousted, convicted and everything you can accused this guy. hhmm.. who knows? he got this small people still. and as far as i remember, this survey was just for choosen people. so we don’t know if those people given by this survey cards were for ERAP? right?
anyway, yes? who can lead a country so far? hhmm.. well, i didn’t see a thing out-busting?
reality bites if you see a child still doing bad for his country, our country would still be driven off. well, look at the smallest element of our society. I don’t say I see them but.. look at the leaders of baranggay’s, SK, StudentCouncil from every universities and schools alike. Look at those people who are leading, those students. Do you see them do their job correctly? I know a group who’s doing mischievous acts to their organization. spending organizations money for pleasure and relaxation. do you think we have better future if we have this as future leaders of the country? guess not. hayy

There’s nothing to be surprised on the result of the survey. It only reflects the sentiment of the people’s disappointment with the present administration. We saw how the electorate voted in the May 2007 elections when the pro-administration candidates were roundly trounced. It will be surely repeated and whoever is annointed by GMA will suffer the same fate.
In the multi-party system, there’s really no solid opposition to talked about. As of now, those who go against GMA are the oppositionists but they don’t belong to the same group and even themselves are in infighting. In this regard, even those who has access to the internet will bind themselves and shout to high heavens of down with Erap, we (including myself) should realize that the votes altogether by those who don’t even have the chance to touch a computer is insurmountable. The noise of those banging their keyboards saying NO to Erap will be surely muffled by the onslaught of those who just count by their fingers but literate enough to vote.
Given this, I think Erap is not stupid to run again if he’s not sure that he’s qualified being a convicted plunderer. But remember this, the more people rant against Erap, it’s publicity for him. Demonizing Erap will only fuel the agitation from the havenots. The better way is for the author to come up with his choice. Who knows, he maybe helping us avoid becoming the Laughing Stock of the World by naming his candidate.

pinoys keep complaining about everything, yet they keep electing the same corrupt, inept and uncaring leaders.

Hey, why call those people clueless idiots if they think Estrada is the solution to our current state of government. I am a pure blooded Filipino. A Physician in the Philippines and a licensed physician in the USA. Can you call me an idiot if I really think Estrada is the answer to all our problems? I am highly educated, balanced, true Filipino hearted individual and I do believe Estrada is the best among all the presidentiables. The survey means only tries to say this: Choose the lesser evil. Despite questionable allegations and conviction, Estrada still is considered the lesser evil among the choices offered.

Roxas for president. Honest and highly intellectual !

We keep on making the same mistake of electing the popular. And this Small One is the biggest mistake that happened to us. Making the same mistake over and over is plain stupidity. Are we Filipinos that stupid?

When a product is not performing its function, it has to be replaced by a new one. Don’t give up on trying to find a better one.
Rene
Are Filipinos really that stupid? They will really bought for this theft, womanizing, alcoholic and gambling person? Enough, wake up Filipinos. It’s one thing when a well educated person fooled you, this asshole doesn’t know anything other collecting women and steal food from the poor people of the Philippines so that he can support his numerous families. I pride the Filipinos for being mostly highly educated but I coming to the point that you guys will never learn. Look at the people you have in the Senate, Estrada, what the does he know about the country? He is not even a good actor. Him and his father look a pig and the mother look like a witch. Filipinos use your head and vote for the right person.

lets grow up! being Forgiving to the past sins of the marcoses, erap will us agAIN TO THE STONE AGE.

Have we learned our lessons yet? From Marcos to Erap? probably not. We Filipinos love superheroes, and for the majority of us whom we call “masa”, Erap is a superhero no matter what he did in the past. His movies and his past administration of of San Juan made him the idol of the masses in his own right. His fans and suppoerters are even convinced that Erap is a real macho man because he’s got a collection of wives and common law wives and they idolize him for that. Lito Lapid made it to the senate but Im not even sure what he’s doing there, he seems quiet. At least Vilma Santos proved her worth. Whos next? I hope Sharon Cuneta or KC for senator. The star struck mentality or the “kabaduyan” of most of our kababayans lead us to where we are right now. We worship people with enormous power and popularity and we entrust to them our country’s future. Im not only referring to movie celebrities but political celebrities as well. Erap convicted for plunder? who cares? people doesnt care what evil things Erap did but for all they know Erap is a good looking “artista” who helps the poor. Of course Erap supporters will capitalize on the grandest of all the excuses which is Arroyo’s ineffective and scandal tainted governance to make way for Erap’s much anticipated comeback. Trust me, with his new political machinery backed up by Arroyos growing enemies, Erap will be back in Malacanang and once again, its on with the show. Once, Manuel L. Quezon said that he’d rather have our country run by Filipinos like hell, than run by foreigners like heaven. It may not be the exact words but considering our nation’s past, present and future, do you think MLQ made a good point there? I dont know.
Mon
Don’t you know until now that Erap was convicted because Arroyo just could not afford to have it otherwise? Wake up. Check out Arroyos’s province so you can see how illegal gambling FLOURISHED under her administration;. Sometimes some people are ruled by their ass and not their head. Am I pro-Erap no! Was there rule of law on his ouster? NO!
Is the Philippines better now? Hell NO! Do you know how Arroyo surpassed the loans made by the last three presidents before her? And with what to show for it?
Is there a better candidate? YES, Lim, Binay, Lacson etc.
So my point? Illegal gambling has nothing to do with Erap’s ouster, its the stupidity of some Filipinos whose become dummies of the church led by the deceased thank God Cardinal sinner who has done nothing but plunge the Philippines into chaos. Just ask the students who were exempted from their finals by attending EDSA 2, from catholic schools of course!

this does not surprise me anyway…knowing eraps popularity…and besides erap’s does not given a chance to run the country for a long period of time, the one who cast him stone are the one who makes us suffer now….hayyyy…2010 is just around the corner….and seems like with these politicians were heading for a no future country….hope someone will stand for the good of the filipinos…hoping the filipino will unite with one good choice of a leader…..
God bless us all in 2010…….

The writer’s comments are correct, after all it’s his point of view and certainly he’s entitled to it.
The problem with us Filipinos is that we keep on hoping for snap change, overnight improvement, when in fact, that is far from reality. Our country was devastated for over 20 years during the Marcos regime and the remnants thereof are now deep seated in our bureaucracy, hence, change is not expected to happen overnight.
Another thing is, majority of poor Filipinos have the same behavior. Reality bites but this is what I observed among our fellow Filipinos. Don’t blame the government for what is happening to us, hindi mapo-provide ng government lahat ng pangangailangan natin, we have to work on our own within the limits of the law.
I once read a book by a Filipino author and he gave an analogy about the perspective of some of our countrymen. Yung isang lalaki keeps on blaming the government, particularly the President, for his poverty.
Another thing, majority of us keeps on blaming the government, bakit? Presidente lang ba ang bumubuo sa gobyerno? Nakalimutan na ba nila na ang gobyerno ay binubuo ng lahat ng opisyales nito from Baranggay Chairman to the President, Mayors at Congressmen na binoto rin nila dahil nabigyan sila ng pera during elections.
With that scenario, wala tayong sisisihin kundi sarili rin natin.
Marami kasing naglalakbay, ibig sabihin may pera, may panggastos… tapos sasabihin nila naghihirap sila. How ironic. Bakit boom ang real estate industry ngayon? Kasi maraming demands, maraming bumibili, kasi may pambili.
Sana maisip to ng mga Pinoy…

Every people has the government it deserves. If the Filipinos vote for Erap in 2010 than they do not deserve better.
marcial bonifacio

Mr. Maulana
How I wish that the survey is true and the result is authentic. If indeed, the survey reflect the majority of the Filipino people, great let us welcome ERAP again for president but let us assure that the the VICE president has the courage not pardone president ERAP for the second time.
I am 101% sure that once Erap become president again he will end up in his cdetention center.
mere_mortal
aren’t u wishing we didn’t push for his ouster then? if we had the benefit of foresight, i guess di sana tau nakikisigaw ng ‘ERAP Resign!’ dati..
sa totoo lang, and i guess i can speak for a lot of people– we’d rather have ERAP, than the clown that we call our president..
mocs
This is just another Malacanang ploy to amend the Constitution. Erap vs GMA again, which we all know both are trash.
Don’t worry Erap can never run again, and besides he will lose, and at 23% he can never be president. Pinoys are not that idiots.
roel
It saddened me to hear Erap of running again for 2010 election.
Is he not yet contented for what he have done in our country? Is not yet contented that her wife and son, occupies the upper chamber of the congress? Is not yet contented to use the so-called masses for his own interest? Why don’t he give new leaders a chance to lead the country? He’s era is finished, let younger ones lead the country to a new dream.
All these politicians are just after for their own self interest. And much worst, Filipinos are amenable with this culture. They thought that all these are like movies wherein one can turnaround the country to prosperity.
Mr. Estrada, don’t be selfish. Stop using this country to further your interest. Don’t regain your Boracay Mansion by running again for President.
Lito Condes
The survey must represent a cross-section of voters to mean something. And, believe it or not, it does reflect Eraps’ popularity with the poorest segment of voters, not with the thinking middle class who knows better.
Erap will win if he runs again on 2010. Nothing you can do about it the way things are. This is what you get when you give the vote to people who does not care or does not have a stake in whatever happens to the country.
Maybe a reform of the voter system is needed wherein only those that pay taxes and are educated to some minimum level can vote, and those that are convicted of violations of the law cannot vote or run for offcie. In other words, only those that have a stake in the well-being of the country should be allowed to run for office or choose the country’s leaders.
jimmy mercado
As I go over with your news item, it seemed to me that you tend to become more desperate rather than building up your faith, in the way we, Filipinos, behave in the essence of a real democracy. We are a well educated citizenry that once angered, Filipinos think of a bolo or pen to be a mightier weapon than the speed of a bullet in defending our country.
Don’t give up your hope, for this is the way we really are - ‘ Mahaba ang pasensiya lalu na’t kapag naapi.’ Let time heal the wounds inflicted upon us by the leaders who both lived in this era of political difficulty, one who closed the ending of the 20th century(1998-2000) with great desperation and the other who started the opening of the first decade of the 21st century with more bad manners than her predecessor was accused of and convicted. We have learned from these mistakes and will continue to learn how to bounce back for our common good.
Have more faith to our Filipino race. The survey you are talking about is just senseless whim of the die-hard players in our political system to serve their own personal interest. I never give credence to political surveys for these are all self-serving.” Kung sino ang gagastos siya ang panalo. And you know how expensive it is nowadays to go to this process. All groups know how to deal with this “racket”.
How could you honestly believe that ERAP would rank first in this survey- is it because of his well fortified political propaganda? What is the content of the questionnaire?
Precisely, an obvious element in the questionnaire form for Erap to be on top.
And I challenge all the political pundits and all the survey institutions of our country to come up with a survey, honestly and publicly. Just tell them to incorporate this last question that I have just told you, and I’ll bet you all my stacks of chips “like a poker player would say in poker”- ALL IN for MAR ROXAS. Put more names in the list of the presidential wannabees and MAR will always land on top.
Harvey, the end of all surveys for this presidential election in 2010 has already been concluded, and this survey was done not only on the basis of selecting few respondents which they used or regarded(survey institutions)to be a true representative reading of the entire electorate. This is bias judgement.
What I am referring to were the past electoral processes of our country on the national elections and the figures will speak for themselves. This was the real and authentic survey by the people themselves. In the voting history of our nation, in any of our election event including all senators. the presidents and vice presidents, the only person who obtained the highest number of votes of TWENTY MILLION or more was MAR ROXAS. And when he sets up this record from that year in 2004, despite the tremendous increase in our voting population no one among the candidates for senator has surpassed his voting record. Not even Legarda,Villar and Lacson who were re-electionist in 2007 and now are eying the presidency.
This is what they fear most about MAR ROXAS, by trying to pin him down on this prejudice, senseless ploy, foul positioning on the surveys to portray him as a “kulelat” in the upcoming presidential battle. You can never put a good man down, as the maxim always say.
I would also think that Erap shouldn’t be barred from running for president. Let him run for all these grandeur of illusions to be put to an end. The people knew what has he done to the presidency and his misdeeds still fresh in the minds of the Filipinos which are now being duplicated by this succeeding government. The fall of Erap in this coming election and the eventual fall of another pro-GMA candidate will open up a new beginning, turn a new page in our political history- a history of two contemporary presidents that has darkened the image of the presidency and what we need now is a person who could lift this office to new heights of power and moral prestige. A man of good breeding, honest that we can trust.
One great historian said; ” A PERSON’S GOOD BREEDING IS THE BEST SECURITY AGAINST THE BAD MANNERS OF ANOTHER, INCLUDING THE PRESIDENCY.And I believe Mar Roxas to be a man of good breeding. He’s the perfect choice for the presidency..

If Erap wins again…
It will only mean one thing…
Pinoy is the ’stupid man’ in asia…
Let’s face it, regardless, whether Erap is guilty or not of the plunder case. he didn’t do anything to improve the economy of the philippines in his 3-yr term as a president.
Henry
I am not surprised about that survey. Most Filipinos will vote for Erap given the chance not because he is the best person to lead our country but because they (most Filipinos) like him and that he symbolizes the opposition to GMA’s corrupt rule.
This is a perfect example of how sad the situation our country is facing. We are a democratic country, where the voice of the many rules. However, one should take notice that the many are not healthy (mind and body), almost starving, overworked (if indeed working and not just on the streets wasting what little money they have on alcohol or other vices), underpaid, desperate and lacks quality education and values necessary for true personal growth and maturity. We must accept that majority of us Filipinos are really not in a position to decide what is best for our country.
If they decide to vote for Erap and they win then all I can say is they have brought this unto themselves (as evident of the last two administrations).
dan
We Filipinos are really stupid if we allow ERAP again to run aspresident!!!!!!!!!!!!

joseph ejercito estrada was a pathetic comic joke then and he remains, today, exactly that - a pathetic comic joke. and if the Filipino electorate allows him to emerge President again in 2010, then said electorate is exactly one and the same as joseph ejercito estrada - a sad comic joke.

GMA has done better in terms of economy than ERAP. And she also done better corruption than ERAP. ETERIO, what can u say about joc-joc bolante? Diosdado Macapal highway, swine scan?

Mr. Harvey Key,
If we only have to talk about future leaders of this country and maybe you are one of those who will run for election in this country against Erap, I will still vote for Erap. You know why, I know you are an atenean, run by jesuits, so probably you are greatly influenced by this people. I assumed you are blinded by the evil deeds that this jesuits have done in this world even before and now. They are partners of the global oligarchs, the illuminatis, that continue to rule this world like hell. Maybe not all atenean are bad, but look back and examine their past and present activities. Erap is also an atenean, maybe he has wronged, but I still bbelieved that he is more nationalistic than the rest them including you.
Your host, the inquirer, and if you really believed in righteousness, again you have chosen the wrong host because this host continue to plunder this country by not paying the right rent of the mile long place in makati to the government.
Mr. Key, you are probably a corpo ‘rat’ who serves the interest of the ‘Money Changers’. You know why and remember this, Erap did not serve well the interest of this people and I will tell you some: 1. Local financial oligarchs and their foreign masters were not able to dictate Erap on how to run this country to favor there interest. One of them is the issue on “soveriegn Guarrantee” which Erap never agreed to be part of any contract with the government. This is the reason why we are suferring from the high cost of electricity, water, MRT fares, etc. 2. you remember the foreign bases, Erap is one of them who voted against its stay, kaya hindi siya love ng mga ito. 3. We laugh at Eraps’ carabao bill, now we are benefiting from it because of the milk scandal in china. 4. You mentioned of other Asian countries as progressive, like Malaysia, they are progressive because, like Mahathir, he can afford to bullshit your western lords and not follow everything that they dictate in order to keep the country poor all the time. Only Erap has the courage to do that, like Bonifacio and Rizal, and he has proven that in the MIndanao conflict, when he told your lords not to meddle in our affairs in that area.
Kaya Mr. Key, kung gusto nating umasenso ang Pilipinas, suportahan natin yong leader who can resist or fight the hegemony of the western rulers, leaders who can serve the interest of the Pilipino people, leaders who cannot be bought by the oligarchs and I suggest that you rather talk more of the qualities of leaders like Hugo Chaves, Evo Morales, Kirschner and the like.
Puro scandal.
You are probably an advocate at the wrong time and place.

What’s the difference? Both Erap and GMA are both corrupt but admit it or not, both of them have made something good in some ways. And they both have their own supporters to prove it. Nobody is perfect and deserves a second chance, so as Erap.

If the voters of the Philippines entertain the mere possibility of Estrada’s return, the country certainly deserves what it gets.

If the voice of the people is the voice of God, then we are all doomed.
It is a known fact that people are disgusted with Arroyo’s administration.
And out of a disillusioned decision, these “people” will revive the Erap regime hoping that he will be the “light”, the “savior”.
They will easily forgot all his crimes, all his wrongdoings.
We have seen Erap’s formula, it failed; why use it again?
“..there are still many good, effective and well-meaning government leaders in our country”.
I find this appealingly true.
We have yet to find a better man (or woman) to lead the Philippines.
Until then, we stay away from the “known baddies” and check the “new players”.
And yes I hate to say this, but as much as i abhor “Dairy” products at the moment, I find your English infected with melamine.

Mr. Harvey Keh,
as per your post:
I’m wondering if Filipinos have actually forgotten the crimes that former President Estrada has committed, including his involvement with illegal gambling operations that eventually led to his ouster in 2001. Have we also forgotten that this was the same man that was convicted of Plunder charges just a year ago?
who initiated and pinpointed Erap that he was involved with illegal gambling?
as far as i remember, erap was trying to legalized that illegal number game, but those people who contradicted his movement are the same people involve in operating/controlling this illegal gambling…and they are afraid of losing their business.
about the plunder case…who initiated and what was the public money involve in this plunder case, and where does it came from?
the people sees the truth, that’s why we cannot blame them to pick erap as their President in 2010.
remember Harvey, it is only erap that won a landslide victory, even the incumbent President bet tried to make a massive cheating during ‘98 elections.
that’s how the Arroyo govt learned how to cheat FPJ from the last 2004 election…did you know that even the armed personnel was not able to vote but their votes was counted(?) huh sounds confusing.
to me, you think it was only erap committed a plunder and he’s the only one involved in the illegal numbers game during his time. and today, tell us if erap is still deeply involve with jueteng.

ERAP for President in 2010?
Owh, what a sad thing will happen to our country if ERAP becomes our president in 2010…
ERAP’s leeches, draculas and parasites will resurrect again if we put erap in throne… poor Philippines..
so sad
so you rather want the FAKE PRESIDENT OF CEBU GLORIA ARROYO, To contenue squatting in Malacanyang Palace?! Even though there is solid evidence against her for being the biggest crooks! The only reason she is not in jail because she control the entire corrupt justice system.
Its true Erap has been convicted of plunder, plunder of juenting money, juenting money is not government money but a gambling money. But there is solid evidence that Gloria Arroyo, Et al. Has been robbing the government coffer. But, she is not in jail for a simple reason the corrupt judiary are protecting her.
the only way for the philippines to move forward is to get rid of all corrupt government official’s. Start from malacanyang palace.

Joseph Estrada running for president in 2010, and right now leading in the polls?
That is to assume that GMA will fail in making the country shift from a presidential to a federal system–becaue if she succeeds, then it is within the realm of possibility that she will be the new government’s prime minister.
There is the other possibility, although a remote one, that GMA may declare Martial Law, in defiance of the Constitution, and rule as a Dictator the way Ferdinand Marcos did.
If both these possibilities do not materialize, of course more likelly than not Joseph Estrada is just raring to try to make a second run for the presidency.
And, you know what? There are millions of Filipinos, the “masa,” who are just too eager to throw their votes away again and vote for somebody who was found guilty of the terrible crime of plunder–but who escaped going to jail because a President who had no backbone chose to give Estrada a plenary pardon!
It is clear that some people in the Philippines are above the law. Estrada is one of them. These are the people who feel free to run afoul of the Constitutiion and the laws. These are the people who make a mockery of democracy in the Philippines.
They belong to that class I characterize as the predatory politico-economic elite which has held the country in its vise-like grip since “independence” in 1946.

Erap for President again in 2010. Why not if he is chosen again by the filipino people? This is the essence of democracy, majority rule.
jeanette ann posadas
I agree that many Filipinos are so disgusted with the Arroyo regime that they are desperate for change. But I disagree that it is only their desperation that is fuelling moves for Erap’s return to power. I still believe Erap’s 2 1/2 presidency was unlawfully cut short and that the charges against him were politically motivated. There are indeed many younger and more educated Filipinos who can lead our country to great heights, but in the end it will be up to the majority to choose who our next chief executive will be. I only hope that the intellectuals among us, those who believe that only they know what is best for our country, have changed their ways and realized that they are just as much to blame for the state our country is in now. Their meddling and black propaganda did topple the Estrada presidency, and likewise toppled the integrity and respectability of many of our democratic institutions. I don’t even know if Erap is running, but if he does and wins, let all Filipinos accept and respect what the electorate has expressed through the ballot. I know I will.

I Think this survery is quite accurate for the real bottomline problem in the philippines is Poverty, and Erap Name stands for Eradication and rehabilitation against Poverty, this was the real reason of why Erap won the most honest election without any hello garci controversy, and the resignation of chairman Abalos because of the known anomalies that really matters when it comes to poverty platform issue.

In Isaiah 5:20 “woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light and light darkness; that put bitter for sweet and sweet bitter.” (v21) “woe unto them that are mighty in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!”v23 “which justify the wicked for reward and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him”. Always God’s rihteousness will prevail. God bless the Philippines, in Jesus Christ name Amen!

OMG! when I left pnas early of this year Philippines was still the same old p’nas and Filipinos were still the same but hearing this crap I think P’nas is getting worst.. How come we Filipinos always like the stupid people, how come we adore the wrong People, I mean C’mmon for christ sake!
I got no hate for the “MASA” but they are the one trashing our country, they got no jobs, easily influence by simple talk and li’l money.they just would rely on other people(the wrong one) plus if they get screwed up they’ll whine and cry..
just plain stupidity..
how can you adore and idolize the ff:
1.ERAP
2.KRIS AQUINO
3. GAMESHOWS
4.BRO MIKE
I guess if most Filipino voters are not from the “MASA” then I think our country will be better.. It’s the “MASA’S” fault so they should be the only one that should suffer but the problem is they inflict their suffering to others..
I rest my case..
God bless my country.. I’m still praying for the country..

Please, all the surveys by the country’s so-called “think tanks” are actually just responses from a handful of people within the Greater Manila Area and is in no way the consensus of the entire Filipino populace. The local media, however, because of its lack of substantive news and the culture of sensationalism, feasts on the survey results and makes far-fetched conclusions out of it and then broadcasts it like it’s an established fact.
But regardless of the survey’s validity, I would NEVER re-elect Erap nor even entertain the notion of his returning to politics. The sad thing is, the God-fearing, discerning, tax-paying Filipino is a minority in this country. The majority is composed of the gullible, placard-toting, whining mobs we have come to call the “masa”. Unfortunately, the Robin Hood antics by Erap’s movie characters have been etched far more deeply in the “masa” psyche for them to realize the sheer inutile that Erap is.
So, Harvey, what’s happening with that plan of yours for an OFW Trust Fund for Among Ed?

Questions about the survey -
How representative is it of the Filipino people’s opinions? How many people were surveyed, and what sectors of society were represented? How many percent is that of the whole Philippine population? What exactly were the questions and specific topics covered in the survey? Answers to these, among others, would show whether or not the survey results are credible.
Questions about Philippine leadership -
In looking for people to lead our nation, we need to go beyond personalities and examine what the positions, plans and vision of these potential leaders are in terms of:
- poverty and poverty reduction, economy, job creation, sending migrant workers abroad, education, health, war especially the Mindanao conflict, terrorism, peacemaking, environment, defense, budget, human rights, family, quality of human life, justice?
What do they have to say about these, and what steps will they want to take?
It is easy to complain, it is easy to just write names on a ballot. It is not easy to insist that candidates must have a serious agenda for governance, but we must nonetheless insist, and we need to take time to reflect, examine, assess before writing those names on the ballot. It’s about time. We need to make our country a better place for our children, and our children’s children.

Excuse me Mr Harvey Keh! You already know that people love the former President. And you, definitely don’t love Erap. You still did not get the big picture what happened then? Erap is the underdog and most of his people turn their back on Erap. Also, the Supreme Court, whose institution was tarnished by this political propaganda. This is a big example that most of the people in the government are conspirators. They are the guys who work as a crime organization like a MOB. Get it?!
You are pointing to someone who have sinned by this system but you do not see yourself. Sorry Harvey, but you are an example of a person who do not see the dirt on his face. Your just like King Pilate.
Your denying a person of his rights while on the other hand your doing mistakes too. Your a hypocrite! Your just the kind of people hiding your mistakes to the people.
You cannot dictate what the people wants just the way you want it. Everybody has his free will. Just like what you are having now. Free will! You know what I am saying?! Get it?!
Definitely, its not your call. Tsk! Tsk! Your such a loser!! Haha… Erap is a victim of circumstances. It should be Chavit who should put in jail but he such a smart ass. He blows the weasel. He knows who he can turn to. So, everybody is happy but not Erap. Including you! Because in the first place you didn’t vote for Erap. Its obvious!

2. I will improve the banking system para hindi na ako matakot mag-open ng account gamit ang pangalang Jose Velarde at wala ng Clarissa Ocampo na mag buking sa akin.

eto,namnanamin natin,
‘Politics in this election year and beyond should be about an old idea with new power—the common good. The central question should not be, “Are you better off than you were four years ago?” It should be, “How can ‘we’-all of us,especially the weak and vulnerable-be better off in the years ahead?”
“focused on moral principles not on the latest polls,on the needs of the poor and vulnerable not the contributions of the rich and powerful, and on the pursuit of the common good not the demands of special interests.”

The only reason why Erap was convicted fro plunder was to justify the legitimacy of this government. You see, Erap was readily given clemency without even applying for it. And if the charge was really genuine, why was Erap the only one convicted? Why was Jinggoy and the lawyer acquitted? Has it ever entered your mind, Mr. Keh, what will happen if Erap was also acquitted? The Philippines will really be a laughing stock. The Philippines will be in chaos. What kind of government will we have? I guess there is nothing different from the government we have now. Look at our assistant national security adviser (sic). He is should not be given salary at all. He should be appointed as a security of Manny Pacquiao. Shame on that guy!!! A very callous-faced weasel. He should have been in jail with Erap.

What happened to Erap was a conspiracy to turn down a good leader. I am not an Erap supported, however on his short term presidency, only Erap has good vision and program with respect to the common needs of the people such as Education, food security, Job opportunity, peace and order, economic stability, mass housing and health and welfare. His vision and program were also the reason why he was removed from power, for the reason that for him to enforce this, he’s gov’t program were chasing to the private sector who controls all these sectors.
His campaign or the war against the extremist group in Mindanao happened for the reason that he was planning to develop Mindanao so that most of the poor people on this side of the Philippine will benefit on also on his pro-poor program.
Question now is, why there was a conspiracy to take erap out of power….Simple answer is GREED for POWER of these impatient people who are running our country now.
Do the Filipino people benefit from the conspiracy…Answer is NO….The conspirators are the one who benefit from it….
For me, I rather bet for Erap than GMA…this is no brainer

(We are the change that we want to see)
We do have options, we don’t have to settle for the less evil. I hope that Mr. Villanueva will again run for presidency this comming 2010 elections. And if he does, indeed we have the option…the only option. His stint on the 2004 elections opened the eyes of the Filipino electorate. After he stood up for the challenge, several righteous leaders emerged and proved that power and machinery of the so-called “TRAPOs” can be overtaken by the people’s desire to have a righteous leader. Among them are Among Ed Panlilio and Grace Padaca, just to mention afew.
There is still hope, Filipinos will regain dignity…. But this could not be done overnight nor by a president alone. It should be through a collective effort of the Filipino people and that would not be possible without taking the first step…start in ourselves. I know a lot of people, intellectual people, are reading this thread. I challenge all of you then to join me in taking the first step.

in 2010 elections, what a perfect combination….sana lang they will still have the courage to again stand up for the Filipino people….

I would support Erap when he will run for President on 2010. Erap is better than the present President. much much better.
gijoe
I very much doubt this Malacanang-commissioned confidential survey. Erap was never no. 1 on similar surveys. It looks like this is a moro-moro where Erap supporters will be made to believe that this survey is acceptable. They will then make their succeeding surveys showing Erap diminishing away from being no. 1 making his supporters accept that he is no longer the no. 1 choice. This will then tend to make Erap’s supporters doubt of his credibility.

Are convicted plunderers qualified to ran for president of our country if he has been pardoned by the president?
bwahaha
ditolang is so funny…i think she was chatting with erap when God give away brains…
Jun
I honestly don’t like both. I’ll probably go with BF or Mar Roxas.
On another note, choosing between Gloria or Erap, sorry to some, but I’d choose Erap. We always hear people saying Erap stole / accepted money from gambling lords while Gloria took money from either loans granted to the country or taxpayers’ money. At least, Erap did not steal from the people if that case is true. Gloria, on the other hand, is obviously stealing from the people.

First of all, i`ll express my great appreciation to u Mr.Keh for your exemplary write up of this column. You know my reaction of the subject can be found crystal clear in your last paragraph. You are absolutely right that ther are only two branded images of the Philippines to the international community.’First:Sick man of Asia, Second:Laughing stock of the world.Unless we have the concerted efforts to eradicate these diabolic politicians. Then we will be gradually change our reputations and as well alleviate the cruel poverty to our fellow Filipinos.God bless to all.

Pity the philippines, % million people and have nothing except ERap in mind for president !!!!!
Aaay
2010 is not between GMA and Erap, It is about our future kaya we need a leader who has political will to make things done. Both of them have been our leader but what have they done for the good of us now. Only BF has the will para mapabuti ang bansa natin at siya lamang ang nakikitang kong tapat sa layuning ito. BF have guts and will needed to lead our country to rise from hell. Not Erap whoi has many wives.
Aaay

If the Filipino people really want good governance and prosperity to our nation. I highly recommended the good mayor of Makati City, no other than Mayor Jejomar Binay to become next President of the Philippines. Though he is not a senator but his administrative capability is highly admirable. He transforms Makati from hopeless town to a highly urbanized city.
In 2010 Presidential elections, the Filipino people should be smart in choosing the right candidate. Choosing a wrong person is 6 years instability in the country. Be smart!
Raymond Egay
Erap has the right to redeem himself….. He should run again in 2010…. and he might win again. Sorry guys but most ordinary pinoys thinks of Erap pa rin…
Chris
Its simple, no matter how people want ERAP back, it just cannot be will never be possible. If all people who posted here remember that he was properly ELECTED!!!. and elected president cannot run for second term. You must change the constitution to do this and if that happens, I would rather vote for Ramos than any other politicians around. Those who wants ERAP back just dont want to change and just dont want to prosper.
jack
NEver again to Erap!!!!
look how he enriched himself? his family, specially her sons & daughter..
even when he was in tanay he could even afford to renovate his resthouse worth millions? so where did he get his money.. even when he say he has business to support his expenses woul you believe as an actor , real estate devloper would bring you profit of billions?
he just so many hidden wealth named not under his name but to other people he trust!!

Erap stands for Eradication Rehabilitation Alleviation of Poverty, not the immorally convicted Erap where majority of pilipinos is contented with the lesser evil PGMA power of three Senate,Congress and the Judiciary where the FPJ phenomenon for peace and justice was sideline and forgotten resulting the real status of the deserving needy poor people inspiration of a less corrupt philippines.
mely
mr.keh, maybe you don’t really have between your ears coz you don’t really see all the worsts things that these illigitimate government have done to this country.I’d rather bet on erap’s presidency than any of the fake president’s chosen one much more of noli de castro or any of the so called presidentiables. And one more thing mr.keh,i think erap is more intelligent and smarter than you are and the fake president
Liza
OMG i cant believe some people still consider erap to be the next president.
He was convicted. No matter how you people spin it,he was a bad president,corrupt.immoral.womanizer.stupid.gambler.
Those video images of him gambling dont lie people. Was erap’s illigitimate children coming out also a part of the “great conspiracy”. BTW,what ever happened to that guy who came out with the casino video tape?and please tell erap’s wife, loi,to please naman, readers of the tabloiod you write for are not stupid.imagine, all her write ups in her column, always, always starts with her son’s name.jinggoy. her column is used as a press release for jinggoy.my gosh naman.this family has insulted the filipino’s intelligence so many times na.

Rodolfo
What good vision you are talking about Ardand?
Anong na gawa ni Erap for the good of the common poor? If you are true to your words during the campaign 2 years are enough to emplement the changes. No more Erap please!
Rodolfo

Erap. Pls spare me!

To be honest, Erap is a million times better than Arroyo. She in nothing but a thief and plunderer. She has stolen Billions of dollars meant for the Filipino economy and is nothing but a hypocrit.
The sooner she goes the better we will all be for it.
At least Erap has learned his lesson, I doubt he will be as bad as any other wannabe thief that wants to get into power.

i’m with you. you’re absolutely right! also, we should also remind every Filipino that a person who had been charged with plunder CANNOT be elected into office according to our Constitution. C’mon brothers & sisters, let’s not waste our freedom to vote by choosing a person who’s sole interest is putting his families & friends first before the Filipinos first.
May the Holy Spirit enlighten the minds of our people in choosing the right leader who will lead our country to progress, & eradicate poverty in our land by using all God given resources.

If Erap can reduce the income tax im paying right now, I will support him. Definitely not GMA. I’m paying almost 19k a month para sa walang kwentang government na to. I dont even have my own insurance or educational plan for my kid.

o, eh di tinamaan ka no?
Bakit Erap

I can believe this survey.
Let Erap serve the country in another way. With all his money, he should be doing charitable works or just simply be a good and law abiding citizen of the country. That’s all he must do. It is just not right if he runs again. Let’s vote for the most competent and idealistic leader. Let’s vote for the person who we can be proud of.
Manny Gonzales
ERAP for president ? NO WAY, man !!
mr. Roy Vergel de dios
I’m wondering if Filipinos and YOU- and those who dislike ERAP- have also forgotten the crimes that CHAVIT SINGSON- has committed, including his involvement with illegal gambling IN iLOCOS REGION?
Im not a supporter of Erap- but Erap was a victim of Conspiracy- which Mr. Chavit Singson and his allies in Malacanang- has just fabricated evidence to convict innocent Erap.
so that his illegal operations will not be terminated. during the Erap terms of office.

You people from Luzon think you are all right! Erap was working for a better Philippines - Mindanao Included!. The reason why he was forced out of power is because the filthy rich spent for it.

It is OK if you do not like Erap. But it is nonsense to claim that with him as ne4xt president RP will become the Sick Man of Asia. It is it already. And Laughing Stock? I think that the world laughs already about the permanent claim of being a Super Economy, a super democracy, a safe country and all the other kind of self awarding matters.
Yes, a full improvement takes timw, but GMA had already so many more years than Erap and still all is rather worse than under Erap. And about being corrupt and making money, we better do not check it against the true wealth of the Arroyos here and abroad. The recent administration maybe had just learned its lessons from Erap and Marcos and probably hide their wealth much better. At least, Erap did not own multimillion Dollar properties in the USA like the Arroyos reportedly own.
Lastly, Erap knows that he would be watched extreme closely and would for sure avoid to give his critics any chance to blame him. He would not need to hide behind Executive Privileges that block any questioning or investigating. Those who have nothing to hide do not need such protection.
sotayet
what a stupid idea. the again he will steal the money of the people…he might joint venture with those people in abu dabi hotel..since he lost his boracay mansion…come on people …

Gloria Kawatan
If Erap run again I’m sure his going to win. But I don’t think Gloria Arroyo, Et al. Going to let it happen! If there is an election comes 2010 I’m pretty sure Gloria Arroyo, And her cronies going to do everything in their power to cheat, Cheat big just like they did in May 10, 2004. Presidential election against Fernando Poe, Jr. Gloria Arroyo, Has already proven that she can do whatever she want to do ang get away with it. Even murder because she’s protected by these corrupt supreme court and corrupt PNP/AFP/EVIL SOCIETYS’.
As we all can see it Gloria Arroyo, Et. Al. Are doing everything in their power to change the constitution law; If they’re not going to succeed on their cha cha train she can declare MARTIAL LAW because that is the only way she can stay into her stolen power forever. GOD FORBID!

Marami pa ding Pilipinong may kamangmangan and pag-iisip.

I did not want to react and justify on the allegations of Mr. Sor B. Terro and Mr Anand, but this is too much. Where have they been living this past decade? Are they that stupid to say that Filipinos are morons and idiots to not recognize a fraud? Erap is such. He is a womanizer, a gambler, and a convicted plunderer. Where will the Philippines be headed if he leads the country for the next 6 years. come on people, where’s your sense?Have we not learned from the past? They are all documented and are facts to be reviewed and learn from. PLEASE, let us not fall into the same hole. We are barely out of the mess he got us into and now we are contemplating of putting him back into power? tsk tsk.. gising mga kababayan.. imulat natin ang ating mga mata sa katotohanan.. wag nating pabayaan na mawala nanaman ang ating ipinag laban na mga karapatan..ito ay para sa ating mga anak at apo…

Hey Guys,
I am asking you to point things in a more objective manner. Erap was ousted because of a procedure as stipulated by the available laws of the land, he was not drag out, right? Gloria step up to be President because of the same available rules and scenario as well, she did not dragged-in too. Yeah its true Erap have plans to run ‘If’ the opposition will not unite for a common candidate, right? Did we notice the opposition candidates? What are they doing lately? They are not united. They look like greeding to power also. Cmon, please look at them, lets be true. The original blog have a good story to tell in all these sorts. Its good to talk about it but at the end of the day we filipinos sometimes dont realize that we are living in a democratic system. All of us including me have something to say. However, would it be nice to see Erap runnning with the other presidientiables? Majority of the filipinos definitely will vote for Erap. Nobody can beat erap but erap himself. That is a fact and I can bet you on that. Destroying his credibility will surely help him because the masa will be hurt. That’s the way I look at our country right now. More and more filipinos like people who are popular. Intelligent vote nowadays are gone. Where is Oscar Orbos? Will he win? Jovito Salonga? BF? Many dont like him because he is doing differently. Hope I wont be misunderstood, I dont blame any of the bloggers, but everyone’s thought are all wake up callers. The only way the Phillippines would prosper is through prayers and prayers alone. God can heal our land, that the only thing I can do right now.
Whoever will win in 2010 needs to be prayed over and will be given enough support.
Have you watch the election in Canada? After the election all the presidentiable threw all their support as canadians to their newly elected Prime Minister.
Will that happen to us? I am afraid not, they will go to the Comelec and file a complaint and say that they were cheated. Pero totoo nga naman….
Hayyyy. Keep on praying Guys.
Kezia
I agree with Arland (comment #89). Former Pres. Estrada had projects that can/may actually help the country. It just so happened that he gambles. But hey, wasn’t he rich enough already to gamble at his own risk?
People can be easily fooled that he’s using the people’s money because he’s a public figure, ffs! It’s like showbiz…. Eww. =.=
I’m not a Pro-ERAP, but I really think/feel that he was unjustly removed from office.
BIAG TI ILOKANO
WHO DO YOU GUEST COULD ALLEVIATE THE LIFE OF EVERY FILIPINO.I SUPPOSEDLY SAY ‘”NOBODY”UNLESS ONE IS WILLING TO SHARE HIS/HER WEALTH,INCORRUPTIBLE AND HAS THE DESIRE TO KNOW THE INBETWEEN OF RICH AND POOR.THUS I DO BELIEVE THE PHILIPPINE WILL BE NUMBER ONE AGAIN IN ASIA.WITH ALL THE QUALIFICATION MENTIONED ABOVE EXISTING POLITICIAN IS NOT QUALIFIED CAUSE ALL OF THEM ARE SELFSERVING INDIVIDUALS.WITH REGARD TO ERAP AND GLORIA IF HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THE TWO I PREPARE THE EX RATHER THAN THE INCUMBENT.ERAP IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME SHOW HE CARE FOR THE CIVIL SERVANT,THE POOR AND THE NEEDY WHEREAS INCUMBENT CARE FOR THE ELITE.THE EXAMPLE OF IT IS THE LOT OF PARDONING EXTENDED TO THE KNOWN AND FAMOUS.I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISE ONE OF THIS DAYS THE MAYOR FROM CALAUAG,QUEZON WILL BE OUT.IF WE REALY MEAN IMPROVEMENTS WE HAVE TO LEARN OUR LESSON. IF WE HAVE TO COMPARE THE NUMBER OF VOTER BETWEEN THE RICH AND POOR THE LATER WILL PREVAIL BUT STLL THE LESS EVIL LOST FOR SOME OTHER REASON.THE FILIPINOS KNOW WHO DESERVED TO RUN THE COUNTRY,BUT WE CANNT BLAME THEM IN THE OTHER HAND CAUSE OF IMMEDIATE NEEDS.THEY DONT KNOW THE WORD “SACRIFICE”,LONG TERM EFFECT,SO LET JUST KEEP OUR FINGER CROSS AND KEEP PRAYING THAT ALL THE HARDSHIP WE HAVE NOW GONE TOTALLY GONE.
DJ
I strongly agree with you. We should start thinking and still put hope that we can have a better president with integrity and concern for the people. Let’s put ERAP in history. He could be a good person and has concern for the poor but NOT capable of running a country like the Philippines! Just think about the dark moment we’ve had when he was the president. I talked to some people in Australia and New Zealand-he’s being laughed at.
If GMA who has a good training in economy and yet, having difficult time in managing us–what more of ERAP?
Sen. Escudero sounds a good person and very articulate. He has good insights but it seems like he’s just good in bombarding (diplomatically) opposition. Remember he has no bills passed when he was in the lower house (accdg. to GMA7 during the Senatoriable Debate). What do we expect from an opposition like him. However, I still want to trust in him if he could still prove himself worthy to be a leader in the senate. Let him take his time in learning and establishing his being ‘a statesman.’
Hidden Miles
Maraming Salamat!

To all of you attacking Harvey Keh for this post: Learn to read and understand what he’s talking about. Nowhere did he say that he much prefers Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to Joseph Estrada. He’s just disgusted at the thought of a former president convicted of plundering the nation’s coffers being considered as the next president of the country. You all know Erap didn’t do anything good for the country the first time around; what makes you think he’ll do better a second time? Do you think, with all his millions, his numerous houses, his decadent lifestyle, and his expensive meetings/drinking sessions, that he was really looking out for the good of the country? Well then if the country crashes under his second term, then you all deserve what you get.
Dom Briones
He is a convicted criminal so there is no chance to him to run for public office anymore. I must admit his all-out military offensive in the south will be his lasting legacy to the Filipino people. Nothing else.
jose

Erap will do wonders to Philippines politics. We Filipinos so far has never reached the pinnacle of folly so Erap being re-elected may provide the long-awaited answer.
Of course, I assumed the next of folly is reason.

Walang kaligayahan… MAGSUMIKAP NA LANG TAYO…

We know that Pres. Estrada fall is caused by the conspiracy of the elite, and power grabber people. Look at those people that are involved, they are the same people who are now in-charged of manipulating people and economy.
They convicted on plunder, but who are those? even the SC under Davide was used as their instrument to their greed.

Panatang Makabayan
Iniibig ko ang Pilipinas ….
Sa isip, salita at sa gawa.

the political situation sa pinas is really in such a sad, pathetic state that if we are limited to the presidentiables you mentioned, we’re in another case of choosing a lesser evil to the next chief executive. i really pity our country. especially those who will remain here. expect another outflow of the best and brightest and all that will be left are politicians, government dogs and non-taxpayers. be afraid. be very afraid

I agree with you kabayan.

Hmmm, even if ERAP wins its not the purpose of the survey. Fact of the matter is, this proves that people didn’t believe he was guilty in the first place. Its the message that the survey is sending. Whenever one needs to analyze such a behavior, it would help if not just the future, in this instance being president again is considered but the the past as well. In more simple terms, “Had the Filipino People been the adjudicators of ERAP back then, he would not have been convicted in the first place”. That’s my take on this supposed secret survey.
But then again as one of my professors like to say, “Go ahead, Agree to Disagree.”
joel

The thought of including Erap in the list of Presidential candidates is a big joke!
I agree, we will be the laughing stock of the world, if Erap is given a chance to run again……
God please don’t let this happen!
deepcaring
Our collective frustration of GMA’s leadership need not resurrect the crucified Erap from the dead. Erap is no hero. He was not a good leader as many of his political writers here would like us to believe.
Erap has his own story of exploits and plunders which is lesser evil compared to the present administration. A lesser evil way, however, is an excuse for searching a leader who embodies good governance — rare, if not totally absent, among our political leaders today.
Here are a few myths in Philippine politics: Erap was a victim of a conspiracy; His conviction was done to justify the legitimacy of the administration; He has authentic love for the poor — pursuing all the anti-poverty programs even if it cost him the presidency; and alike. Just read the drama of his supporters above. These are educated people who are lawyering for Erap and proclaiming the inevitable return of the crucified yet resurrected president. Because the people has spoken in the survey, therefore, all we could do is to await for his coming… that’s the will of God for the Filipino people!
God, where are you?
Luz Ramirez
Please be sensible Kababayan, anybody but ERAP. No education, no morality, what is he known for?PLEASE….
js

Im just wondering why the Filipino people are worrying about Erap’s candidacy, where the constitution provides only one term for the President position. Erap can no longer run again for presidency because he had been considered to serve his full term even though he resigned….
Jang-jang
Erap is the worst president we experience in our time. His short 2-year tenure is an era where popularity prevailed over qualifications.
His time gave birth to the thinking that entertainment and back up dancers would translate to huge votes.
He was responsible for the demise of well presented platforms of one’s leadership and informative public debates.
Hedonism was the taste of leadership and is too sweet for those in power, It’s an Erap legacy.
1998 election was indeed the year where Filipinos are not required to think and emulate but was only required to be entertained.
richard
yes i think erap is still popular with the masses..media should pool together their resources to educate especially our masses who should be the right leader for the 2010 elections right now!!!
OFW
Correct ka dyan Windblown, it’s so obvious that it’s political conspiracy from the start and now that we have seen the present administration and its people in every corruption expose’ is a vindication of that event then. Many critics of pres. Erap seems to just refused to understand that, simply because Erap is not their type of guy to be a president. is it hypocrisy in them the reason why?
OFW
OFW
Look guys, open your eyes naman, kaya kabikabila ang corruption na nangyayari sa administrastion ni Gloria ay dahil simula nang umupo sya she’s paying political debts to those who helped her put and stayed in Malacanang, look at many of his appointees, former Gen. Angelo Reyes as an example. and many others from the military, the highest among other previous administrations.
kathline
NO to professional politicians, militants and dynasty politics like what Binay is doing in Makati.
gooserider
Performance wise! Binay is much better than ERAP. Who do you think is the right candidate for president with ethical leadership? Escudero? Villar? Panlilo? Padaca? Lacson? Legarda? Tell me?
We are always talking about ethical leadership and good governance.
Have you visited Pampanga or Isabela and see to your eyes about changes happen there? Are there any changes of the lives of people there? Or still the same?
The Filipino people want action to change their lives for a better. They don’t want ideology or bickering among the politicians. What they want is action.
I better preferred the good Mayor of Makati to become the next president because changes came to Makati after Yabut. And I’m optimistic that the changes that we are looking for will come to malacañang once Binay become the President.
OFW
Running again for president is the last option for Pres. Erap if the oppositions is not going to unite against administration bet. Well i hope the oppositions will unite for Mayor Binay, thats ok with me, i agree that he is a doer of many good things in makati city which also could be applied for the whole country. What i dont like to happen is another hello Garcia that will put any Gloria boys in malacanang or cha-cha before 2010 that will ensure Gloria to be the prime minister.
Jang-jang
Binay is the biggest corruptor mayor Makati had ever produced.
The bldg of Cityhall of Makati is one big example of how Binay haggled the costing to the benefit of his family, 100 percent over priced according to acclaimed contractors.
Binay is also like Marcos who are making a dynasty in Makati, If he’s not the mayor then its his wife. His children are occupying the best government seats in Makati also.
pinoysagermany
there is no question that the constitution was shamelessly violated and manipulated by the powers of EDSA 2 just to satify their thirst for power.
erap was then convicted by the present administration in order to justify its legitimacy. (the judges of his trial were HANDPICKED BY MALACANANG not RANDOMLY SELECTED)
stop dissing erap’s qualifications. he became a mayor, a senator, a vice-president, before he became president. his qualitfications are incomparable to that of fpj or noli’s.
erap was just a victim of a power grab conspiracy.
JELOPZ
I WILL VOTE ERAP FOR PRESIDENT 2010!!!!!!!!!!
noggie
Sorry to upset you guys but we loved Erap, our entire family and the 90% of Mindanaon’s loved him, false media news may covered the goodness he brought fort for Mindanao but you cannot deny the facts during his term. We support his All Out War in Mindanao, and you could actually see the results after, no more kidnappings and killings after most Muslim rebels had been eradicated.

ERAP for PRESIDENT! LET’S VOTE IN!
mika
if ERAP be the next president …. Philippines is dying forever …….. no hope …..
remember the gambling, the Jose Velarde case, the guns and goons……
milk shake
Come on guys …. wake up —- are we voting for the same plunderer, gambler official whom we impeached years ago ….
we were saddened that GMA did not meet our expectation to be a clean honest official … but sure Erap is not an answer …. lets hope a good one will come -out —- but not ERAP
Pilipino
ron
People of the Philippines lets bring back the original President of the masses PRES.ERAP ESTRADA
Eterio
The one who can really help the eleven million unemployed is the right person to be voted for, Introduce unemployment benefits and raise poor taxes from Jueteng, imagine former President Erap had amazed 78 million dollars how much more did the previous presidents who controlled the philippines for 22 years and become billionaires.
D
@mika
I’d have to disagree with you. ERAP is our answer! You know nothing about ERAP. He really cares about the poor. All these talk about his women and gambling are irrelevant for me. It does not in any way affect his duty to serve the poor.
yes I remember the gambling - but that is his own money.
yes I remember Jose Velarde - he was never convicted of that
yes I remember the guns and goons - but this is for his own protection and mind you, he is perhaps the only high ranking official to not use a siren or block roads when going anywhere because as the true voice of the poor, he has nothing to fear.
I am pretty well off now. At age 25 I have achieved a lot and I couldn’t care less about the next president. I will also not vote (never have) because this is a waste of time for me. But if I were to vote, ERAP would be my choice. No question in my mind.
You need to stop watching TV or the media and really look at ERAP’s history and achievements.. and maybe you will see the light my dear.
uwakuwak123
yes there are much more capable candidates than Erap…Let us give others a chance to truly lead this country of ours…And let us learn from our past mistakes -not repeat it over and over again…We have to mature now…Our democracy is now maturing since we first fought for it during the people power. Let us all grow from it. To change for the better is always in our hands because the decision is always ours to make. Let us be wiser in choosing our leaders.

lol, ,
james cobourn
Erap helps many people in a silent way. Patunayan nyo yan. Ok!
ERAP FOR PRESIDENT
james cobourn
ERAP AY PARA SA LAHAT!!!
KUNG JUETING AT IBANG SUGAL ANG DAHILAN AY DAPAT IPASARA ANG PCSO KASI SUGAL DIN YAN DBA? GOBYERNO PA ANG MAY-ARI NYA. HAHAHAHA..
TINGNAN NYO ANG POSITIVE SIDE.. NOTEBOOK SIZE ANG MALI NYA SAMANTALANG ANG TAMA AY MAKAPAL NA LIBRO….
marish

To me, we do not need this guy who fool the mahihirap.. sa subra kasing dami ng mahihirap sa atin with mind the same as erap kaya yon bubutuhin nila uli ang kagaya nila..
Did you remember what he said before?? THE MORE THE MARRIER…Look at our country now, the more nga puro mga mahihirap naman and useless citizens of the country..
Filipinos, wake up now.. choose the best leader dahil lagi na lang tayong last in the the top list of improving and industrialising countries in the world… dahil kung hindi we will always be the top indebt country in the world and remains to be poor!!…
