Youth votes

THE 2010 Philippine presidential elections are drawing near. Some aspirants have started subtle campaigning, hoping to catch people’s attention this early.

History would tell, however, that Philippine elections have been marred with fraud, casting doubt on people who are placed in power. This is one reason why some voters forego their right to suffrage.

Jaime Garchitorena of Youth Vote Philippines says one cannot blame some people for choosing not to vote.

Garchiterona says the Filipinos’ growing distrust with elections will only lead to more unwanted public servants.

“If you don’t trust the system, which you do not try to fix, then it still stays the same as distrustful as you thought it was,” Garchiturena adds.

Garchitorena says breaking this cycle of distrust is difficult. But people should not give up. He says “trying” means that people have accepted the possibility of change.

Youth Vote Philippines hopes to encourage the youth to find time to vote.

He points out that people should not complain if they chose not to vote. “Kung hindi ka boboto, huwag kang magreklamo [Don’t complain if you will not vote],” he adds.

He admits that it remains a challenge to encourage more young people to vote. However, he and his colleagues in Movement for Good Governance are not losing hope.

1.How to Increase Your Clout with Electeds.
at sabi nga e ,I say, first and foremost, register and vote.Lagi pag, sumulat ka sa mga politiko e una e,they check if you are a voter or constituents.
2.Votes Trump Money-sabi e ,the only reason politicians raise money is to buy ads that will reach voters. If you can deliver votes and voters, you have as much,if not more power, than people who deliver money.
3.Democracy Commando Force Multipliers.
Ito e yung ‘you are creating an ‘electoral affinity group’ at yun na nga,you can work on issues that matters to your group,o kung ano nga ang mga inyong gusto o sa inyong palagay e dapat.

and, your friends and relatives or group will develop a lot of influence by volunteering and bringing volunteers ,to campaign for an issue or even to elect a candidate.

salamat po at sana e maka-tulong kahit paano.

sa ilang karanasan ko sa mga kabataan,e tutuo kahit sila e naroon e kailangan pa rin nila ang suporta nating mga magulang at matatanda,at obserbasyon ko rin nga e not all matanda and parents are ready or even ok sa mga ganito,so yung mga ok e sana e makatulong sa kanila.

Mukhang hindi siya TRAPO.

i think the coming 2010 election is not a question of whether people will want to vote or not, but more on WHO will the people vote for. others are discouraged to vote because there is nobody on the list especially for the “president wannabes” that deserve their votes.

believe me when i say that the filipino people is fed up with the present administration that they want drastic changes to happen. but unless people are given a candidate that they are sure they can count on, the 2010 elections will be another circus: a waste of time, manpower and taxpayer’s money.

From my experience many people especially in rural areas do not vote unless they receive their payments of, 500, 1,000, 1,500 pesos. This includes young the generation. This is disgusting. Anyone who has good intentions to run for office has to pay the people to vote in order to be elected. The people must change and resist the pay offs from corrupt officials.

Taga Sampaloc

Having an election is not a problem.Everybody wants to participate in it.However, counting the votes is the problem.Votes can be stolen, padded, or miscounted by those with money and influence. So we can all agree that even if we don’t
vote for corrupt and mindless candidates, they with money and access to power can win the vote counting and the election. So if we can count the votes correctly and the mainstream voters we can assumed to be politically savvy to chose the right candidates, then we will have elected officials that are truly public servants.Right now these “public servants” hold the keys to the house and makes the rest of us lived in the servants’ quarters.
You can have everybody, the young and old, the rich and poor, and
all the churches behind your candidacy. You still loses the election if their votes are not counted. So what can we do to ensure the votes are counted correctly? Can we identify groups outside or inside the government involved in the canvassing of votes?Which of these watches the precincts, transports the boxes
and provides logistics needed? Were any perceived to have influence the vote counting before?Answer to these questions are simple but correcting the problem of vote counting will require
collective efforts and will of everybody.

The idea that people want to vote for someone who is well respected has been noted since Marcos was ousted from office. One of the main problems is vote buying. Too many people are willing to accept money from a candidate/official whether they vote for them or not. The act of accepting money from a candidate is an admission and an approval for corruption. Vote buying has to be stopped in order for change to take place, and one way to do this is not to accept the money and to vote for the candidate not buying votes. Elected officials are a reflection on the people and the country whether you voted for them or not, as seen in the President Obama’s election. President Obama’s victory was a sign that the people want Change. The people must change. Let the youth vote be the catalyst for Change.

Blogs should be open and free from moderation unless there are adult content that needs to be removed. I believe this is a sign of censorship that does not belong in a democratic country.

Eterio

Governor Ed Panlilio is the right person to aim for a corrupt free philippines, he can use the tactics of the Electronic Politician Senator Trillanes who won the election without trying, by just staying in Tanay Jail and that would be a signed that you dont spend too much in the election campaigned so walang utang na loob sa trapong politician but to its real election platform issue of helping the poor which is the number one election issue of the philippines. he can follow President OBAMA electronic electioneering by using youtube, facebook, myspace and be true to its election platform issue of getting rid of corruption and enhance the lives of the really needy.

OFW

To Rico B, i’m sorry to disappoint you on your call to support Bayani Fernando, he is nothing but a smug. I hope the people will make a better discerning comes election day than what you are suggesting

That is a good issue raised by Taga Sampaloc, how are we going to make sure the filipino people is not cheated again when not a single accomplice has been punished despite the so many and lenghty investigations. By the way, bakit ba talaga walang naparusahan sa mga nagsabwatan sa pandaraya nuon 2004 election.the answer i can think of is sobra ng dami ng govt and elected officials ang corrupt so that it looks like it will take 150yrs before juan dela cruz can breathe with relief.

Is our government serious enough to computerize election in 2010? If there will be a computerized election in 2010, then, cheating will be lessen. The only thing that the Youth should focus about is how the computerization is set up to control the weakness of an old system as far as counting is concern.

If the system is just by filling up the ballot(likes scantron when you are taking exam) in the precinct level and put it inside the ballot box and enter it in the computer aided counting machine in the municipal level for a certificate of vote(COV) is not a good internal control idia because there will be ballot box snatching and switching in between.

The youth should mobilize the LapTop Army. (Laptop ang weapon, USB Flash Drive ang ammunition) Organize with different School/Student Infromation Technology Association and assign to their own respective provinces and municipalities. All those people with lap top computer should volunteer. Be sure that computer results in precinct level wont change. Get the approval from Comelec to download the result and send to head unit in national level for immediate result. It is just a matter of good internal control to avoid loopholes.

dayaan sa precinct level:
1. bilihan ng boto by providing carbon paper as proof of vote (you got me?)
2. Ballot box snatching and switching.

1. Dagdag-bawas in exchange of large amount of money.
2. Or mearly adding zero or more zeros to increase the tallied votes.

Do you think it will solve by computerization? Definetely.

It depends set up of control and the vigilance of youth laptop army of volunteers.
