Noynoy Aquino will not win in 2010

09/09/09

Posted under 2010 Elections, Eddie Panlilio

By Harvey S. Keh

LAST week, we were all caught by surprise by the sudden announcement of Senator Mar Roxas that he was withdrawing from the 2010 Presidential Elections to give way to the candidacy of his party-mate and good friend, Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. Senator Aquino is now being asked my many groups to take the cudgels for genuine change and reform that have been left behind by his parents, former Senator Ninoy Aquino and former President Cory Aquino. I greatly admire Senator Roxas for this act of true statesmanship and this also further bolstered my belief that there are still many good people in Philippine politics. Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, a fellow stalwart of the Liberal Party also announced that he is willing to forego his bid for the Vice-Presidency if and when Senator Aquino decides to choose Senator Roxas as his running mate. Pampanga Gov. Eddie Panlilio and Isabela Gov. Grace Padaca followed Senator Roxas’ self-sacrifice by also announcing their withdrawal from the Presidential and Vice-Presidential race to also support the bid of Senator Aquino. Through these acts of sacrifice, I am very confident that it will only be a matter of time when all the reform groups will converge towards supporting Senator Aquino and a common slate that would represent the change that every Filipino has been longing for.

Yet, as I read a major newspaper (not the Philippine Daily Inquirer) last Sunday, I was disappointed by an article written by a regular columnist who said that it was good for Panlilio to back out from the race since he didn’t have the money to run a national campaign which he mentions as having at least 1 billion pesos. This kind of thinking is what has led the country to where it is now. Moral, upright and good leaders opt not to run during our elections because many people tell them that if you don’t have money you will not win. This is also the reason why more often then not Filipinos are left with no other choice but to always choose between the lesser evil since those who have the genuine desire to be of service do not anymore run for office since they do not have enough financial resources. Moreover, this kind of thinking has led to patronage politics and politics as a business wherein the politicians would “invest” millions or even billions to win an election then they would “reap” the fruits of their investments by siphoning off public funds that should be used to provide basic services to the Filipino people. Worse, they will also have no choice but to grant political favors to benefit the people who donated millions in their campaign. If we will all accept this columnist’s way of thinking then I will be the first one to tell all of you that Senator Noynoy Aquino will not win in the 2010 elections. His current net worth is less than 15 million pesos as compared to Senator Manny Villar’s billions of pesos.

However, like many of you, I refuse to buy this columnist’s argument of having billions of pesos in order to win in the 2010 Presidential elections, Gov. Eddie “Among Ed” Panlilio won in Pampanga against his well-funded and politically-entrenched opponents despite only having an initial fund of P 1,000. Isabela Gov. Grace Padaca also won not only once but twice despite her opponents spending millions of pesos against her. Mayor Sonia Lorenzo of San Isidro, Nueva Ecija won despite not having any posters or tarpaulins during her campaign. If we want to elect a reform President like Senator Noynoy Aquino that will not be beholden to the self-interests of the ruling oligarchs, business groups and traditional politicians, this President must be elected through the support of ordinary Filipinos like you and me. Like the Aquino family who has given already so much of themselves for our nation, every Filipino will also need to make our own small sacrifices such as chipping in our own small share of funds to help in his campaign, volunteering our time and talents and going out of our way to convince our friends to support Senator Aquino. This is our chance to prove once again to the whole world that the Philippines can lead the way in showing that the power of a true democracy lies in the hands of the people and not in the hands of a few.

castro, godofredo

Mabuhay kayo Noynoy-Mar.

Dude, Harvey, you need to write little and get straight to the point. You have not justified the title. Are you just after the hits to this page? This is indulgent rubbish.

Nothing new here. Just wasted my time reading.

Jane Velez

Well said Harvey…Yes we can!

Where can we send our contribution for Aquino’s campaign funds?

Mabuhay ka Noynoy…

mananalo c ninoy kung wala c mar roxas sa tabi nya, kasi ang gagawin ni mar roxas ay gaya ng ginawa nya kay mayor lim. during campaing period sa 1998 presidential elections, they campaigned for mayor lim but two day before the elections they campainged for erap estrada because mar roxas knew that mayor lim will not win in the election.

Mama S. Paguilidan

I observed that Noynoy’s group is orienting the entire Filipino people that he can effect changes, and that, if Noynoy would be lost in 2010, meaning he was cheated.Since the people around him are known demonstrators, some of them are kamagnanakaw, they would resort to an EDSA 3 revolution, to instill Noynoy as President like his mother. The Filipinos should know that anomalies in public service are started during the time of President Aguiinaldo up to present. We should know the presidentiables platforms, as some of them are cliches programs. For example, how Noynoy address the continuing agrarian unrest in the country which failed to solve by his mother Cory.

siyetehan

tapos na ang speculations, Noynoy has now made his intentions formal.

it’s time to stop capitalizing on his being “the son” of ninoy and cory.

let’s go down to what has he done in the past? and what can he do in the future?

orlando vergel

according to noynoy his first agenda would be the continuation of his venganza against the marcoses as he would continue to recover the so-called hidden wealth. this is a bad sign. tiyak wala nanaman mangyayari sa palakad nito kundi venganza. we were already devastated by the arroyo regime eh, ang gustong pumalit ay political revence pa rin ang nasa ulo. would the filipino allow this? as i was telling, talagang wala talagang alam itong mga aquino!

Noynoy Aquino will not win in 2010 — I don’t think you were able to adress the title of your article

arnel bada

Yes, I read the article PhilStar’s Mr. Pascual too.

Boy, is he really a downer. I figure him to be an intelligent guy, really, but there’s something wrong with this guy. He uses his power to write the wrong way.

Good job Harvey.

jun ledesma

Noynoy will win, he must win if we are in search for a leader who has the integrity and strong moral fiber. He can lead the government bureaucracy by example. I think that the essence of accountability is clear to him. I will trust the future of my children to him. I don’t think he will destroy the heroic deeds of his parents by going the way of traditional politician.
But Noynoy should distance himself from the rubble rousers who have nothing to contribute but divisiveness.

“Filipinos are left with no other choice but to always choose between the lesser evil”

Bakit nga ba nakokontento na tayo to just compare the candidates and choose the lesser evil? For example, we tend to favor Erap over the administration candidate (or those that are pro-GMA) because we think Gloria corrupted the Country more than Erap did. Are we sure that when Erap will be in office again, he will not do the same corruption activities as he did when he was in Malacanan before?

We should choose our candidate based on their capabilities and principles. We should choose the leader who will favors Filipinos among others and should be willing to fight for the Country against all odds. I think kelangan natin ng Pangulo na magaangat sa ating kaisipan na tayong mga Filipino ay isang lahi na makatatayo ng sarili at superior tayo as compared to other races. With this, development and growth will follow and eventually ever Filipino will develop self esteem.

As for Noynoy, as Casino suggested, dapat magkaroon sya ng sariling image as a leader and not just the sole son of Senator Ninoy and Pres. Cory. And to resolve the issue of Hacienda Luisita.

Axie

Well, at this point in time, this is a wake up call for all of us Filipinos who are clamoring for a real change. This coming 2010 election is an open door for each in everyone of us to contribute in our own little way by helping and truly support the candidates that possess a real reformist especifically the candidate for President. This candidate should not be a beholden to the self-interests of the ruling oligarchs, business groups and traditional politicians. I encourage each in everyone of us to open their eyes when choosing candidates to be elected. This 2010 election is the right time for all of us to elect the right leader of our beloved country Philippines.

Sir, I saw you on ANC over the Filipino Channel. I have promised to devote 1/2 of my salary for October for Senator Noynoy’s Campaign. Any idea where I will send the money if ever?

My e-mail add is alquinn.pantilagan@aramco.com.

It is really disheartening to read articles that say, only those who have endless resources could win an election. Noynoy Aquino is the only candidate who has the moral authority, pedigree and the heart to lead our nation and bring back the pride in every Filipino.

Our family is already planning to find ways to contribute in Noynoy’s campaign.

Let good triumph over evil.

Noynoy for President in 2010.

orlando g vergel

i concur with your opinion that noynoy will not win the 2010 elections especially if his issues would delve around the macos factor. the political atmosphere in 1986 is entirely different from 2010. according to noynoy his first agenda is to recover the so-called hidden wealth of marcos, so the aquino vengeance issue is again around the corner. this would again fuel the fight bet the marcoses and the aquinos which could do nothing in solving the devastation brought by a mismanaged arroyo administration. this is a bad sign! i think we should not allow this to happen again like it was during cory. cory had a failure of governance because she got busy against the marcoses thus, a neglect in addressing the problems of the country!

Ling

Yes, I truly agree with you. Such a nice comment and encouragement for everyone to actively take part in whatever way, small or big contributions, material or effort to inform our kababayan the ONE who has a genuine heart to lead our ailing nation, for reform in governance, and fight corruption. Among those already showing to aspire for presidentiable position, and i agree with you, the most who has the integrity, truest intent for the Filipinos is NOYNOY AQUINO. Let’s join together to let our voice be heard to our kababayan that i is now time to choose someone like Noynoy who has a genuine heart to serve sincerely the Filipino people, someone who will not likely take advantage of the position he is in.

I left the Philippines in 1980 (during martial law under the Marcos regime) to come to the U.S. I have lived here since.

I have not followed Philippine politics, etc., since I came to U.S. (although I was “politically” active during my college years in Manila).

Although I have not lost hope in the Filipino people doing the right thing, I (and countless Filipino expatriates) when the people elected movie stars, etc., to government posts and lead the country. In part, I don’t blame the people because most of them are uneducated and do not know better than electing movie stars.

I came to believe in Philipine politics during Ninoy Aquino’s time and his bid for the presidency (but which costs him his dear life). When Cory was catapulted to the Presidency, I felt that it was time that the people get what they deserve - equality and JUSTICE FOR ALL. They did until Cory stepped down as president and it was “back to normal” with the succeeding president. however, I believe that during Cory’s presidency, the people saw that life can be better if the person in power really cares about the common masses, which Cory did. Corruptions under Cory’s presidency is next to nothing, even unheard of.

Now the baton has been passed to a new generation of Aquinos; that his parents’ dream “shall never die.” I believe Noynoy’s announcement to run for President is a “breath of fresh air” for the Filipino people as well as expatriates like me. I am sure he will make the “CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN” (if I can borrow President Obama’s catch phrase).

I hope the Filipino people, especially the downtrodden, abused, forgotten and denied justice should work together to elect Noynoy as the next President of the Philippines. As President Obama said it well, “change should come from the ground up.”

All the best wishes and good luck to Noynoy. Go get them Noynoy!

I think its high time we filipinos change our way of thinking! It’s good to keep the family and friendship values but other than that, we need to be less scared of the rich people and the wealthy and powerful should be fair to those who have none. Change should start within one’s self. If only everybody would pitch their part in making the country a better place then that would be great

yamboy

i was expecting more explanations on why Noynoy won’t win…and then i read almost nothing…seems Mr. Keh just rode on the recent announcement of Noynoy, wrote a piece, titled it with something to catch your attention…and then…wala!

REYNALDO E. ABAD

I second the motion Mr. Harvey Keh, this is another chance given to us, to show not only to the trapos but also to the present regime that, united, we will stand against their evil intentions. Let us not allow them to subvert the true sentiment of the silent majority and let’s do it now.

rick

possible but not for certain. i heard chitchats like this in the 1986 elections and … you know what happened.

money is commonly but not always the gauge in political winability.

L Paita

What’s up with the provocative title that is totally inconsistent with the content and message of the article?

Aida B. Jayme

Thanks to your very enlightening message and this is true…i agree with you… we had shown that fight during election of the late Corazon Aquino and we can show it one more time….THAT PHILIPPINES CAN STILL BE A GREAT NATION WITH DIGNITY AND HONOR..we always have to hope and pray for that…and with that I as on OFW here in Hongkong who really wish our country to be great again will support Noynoy Aquino ….by the way i was once a member of the Friends of Butz Aquino Movement way back in the ’80’s….Thank you very much and more power to all of you…

James

Hi! Harvey,

We loved your comments. Can we post this to our vote.ph site. We are preparing this site for the election and your comments are great.

Thanks.

vida borja

Mabuhay! I am one with you. We Filipinos should stop our perenial belief that a person cannot win if he doesn’t have hundred of millions. That’s why corruption is so rampant in our country because of suhol, etc.

marlon

para sa makabuluhang pagbabago, i would say COUNT ME IN!

Lorna Sabino

very well said said Mr. Keh, now is the time to change voter’s frame of mind equating winning with billions, this is the right time that the very reason why cash-strapped candidates like Padaca and Panlilio won be brought to a higher level, on a “national scale” and finally let’s ask ourselves do we elect candidates who arrogantly boast of their billions as a vehicle to a sure win or Nonoy, I need not say much who he is, one thing is sure though, every contribution of Juan, Pedro, Maria… will surely support a worthy cause.

NoynoySupporter

Mr. Keh, Noynoy will win the election. People are tired of corrupt and power-hungry politicians. Roxas has no choice, he has to give way. He and Korina Sanchez appear to want the presidency too much they are turning off people. The others are corrupt. Only Noynoy looks acceptable.

corazon

I believe in your causes. But i still will not vote for Senator Aquino. He has too many advisers coming from different groups who have their own personal agenda. Someday these same groups will clash. Mas magulo ang gobyerno. Sorry to say, but, the Guy has nothing to show except that he is the son of two beloved leaders.

Simple but worth a million attitude must be good moral character. To all of us, Filipinos who were already registered to vote for our new President and Vice-President in 2010, please be very careful in choosing the most appropriate and deserving candidates who could really make good changes in our government, first and foremost is to eradicate corruption in all aspects of life and secondly, to alleviate the mud-like and squalor living conditions of the poorest of the poor and the last but not the least is to provide means of livelihood to all who have been unemployed for the past years. VOTE WISELY and please choose Nonoy AQUINO for PRESIDENT and whoever his running mate is, please also choose him as VICE-PRESIDENT.

Jerry N. Almojallas

all Filipinos who wanted more for Philippines should be the one to cost the campaign… i myself will…

where can the OFW like me send my share for it.. any account for us here to give the little we have….?

GOD loves the Philippines so much that the death of Tita Cory paves way for another miracle for those who had no hope for the PHIL…

This is the time …NINOY will not WIN … we will WIN… the Philippino will win… KAYA NATIN eto… basta sama sama!

Engr. Cesar Reyes

I am 101 % agree that a reform presidential candidate like Noynoy Aquino deserve full support from ordinary electorate. Once elected as President he will serve the best interest of the majority of the Filipino.

I wish him all the luck and bless. May God bless our country the Philippines.

Noynoy Aquino will win in 2010?

i think he is not prepared for the presidency. he should undergo a lot, lot, lot of preparation. the following are his perceived handicaps:
1. poor in public speaking. even during reading his prepared his speech, he can not deliver;
2. poor in explaining issues. talagang nangangapa;
3. is he again like her mother who will depend largely from his staff. tiyak mabebenta o maipagbibili ito without knowing;
4. mukhang uto-uto. the filipino people will again be the grand loser;
5. looks like to be a puppet by the military. the presidency needs a strong personality. he might face like her mother numerous coup de tats.

Yes you are right my friend,Politician who invest so much money to be elected will going to steal from the people to get back the money they invested plus 1000% or so,of interest. They are not fool to waste their money just like that without benefiting from it.Politics right now is not serving people anymore, its business, that’s why our country became so poor.Tamaan sana sila ng kidlat.Hopefully Ninoy change that.

The “L” Sign from “Laban” to “Love Pilipinas”

LP Mayor Ferdinand ‘Bong’ R. Maliwanag of Candelaria, Quezon is suggesting to the party and the people that the “L” sign be made to symbolize love of country. He believes that if the Filipino people truly love the Philippines and fight for that love, all problems can be solved easily.

“L” that used to signify “Laban” can also indicate “Liberal” or “Leaders” or “Light” and now “Love”. Nevertheless, of all significance, love brings about basically everything. Because when there is love, change is achievable. When change is achieved, there will be hope. And when there is hope, there comes fulfillment.

So the next time we make the “L” sign, it means “Love Pilipinas”, says the mayor.

Love for the people, love for the country, love for life and love for the Lord our God!

Rod M. Baltazar

I believe that the reason behind the seeming lack of interest or passivity of Filipinos to the glaring excesses of the administration is the fact that they have no one to trust among the people in the opposition. Actually, the clamor or call for unity in the opposition saddens me. And it seems to me that the people close to Noynoy like Ex-Senator Drilon are trying to mold him into their kind- traditional. I do believe that many Filipinos are like me who are willing to volunteer time, effort, talent and whatever meager financial resources we have for Sen Noynoy’s candidacy hoping that he will lead true reforms badly needed in our government. Concerned Filipinos ought to take the lead so as to avoid compromises that Sen Noynoy may be forced to accept or offered him.

Unity in the opposition is next to impossible. They are the same kind with those in the administration. Please, relay the call for Sen Noynoy to take a non-traditional approach in his quest to clinch the presidency this 2010 elections. Also, publish the ways or contact details of organizations that people like me can join to support his campaign.

Thank you.

i believe that noynoy will not win bec it is only the few once who gain power during cory s days. Binay, drilon, kamganak inc. are the once pushing him for them to be back on power. Noynoy has no guts to drive our country in progress. all he has is pa awa effect to the public. and by the way did you notice during noynoy declaration. kris baby james is within the picture. Where is josh? Isnt he the 3rd generation of aquinos and noynoy the 2nd generation. Josh for president. future phil president

tirador

if noynoy wins, it all comes from symphaty votes and everyone knows that sympathy votes does not guarantee a good leadership. masyadong nadala ng emotion ang ating mga kababayan nung pagyao ni dating pres. aquino. wag sana tayong pabigla-bigla to the point na gusto pa nating gawing santo si pres. cory…isip isip muna tayo. huwag padadala sa damdamin. imagine pati si kris aquino gusto nilang tumakbo, bakeeet?

Paul

It is too early to make predictions on who is a strong candidate, who will win, who will save our country from trapos and the like. It is best to weigh what is happening, discern what to do and seek God’s intervention in our decision in choosing a righteous and God-fearing leader then let our voice be heard through our vote. Sa tingin ko, nagpakatotoo lang naman yon nagsabi na kailangan ng pera para tumakbo sa pagkapangulo. hindi naman masusubuk ang integridad ng pinuno sa dami ng kanyang pera. masusubok ang integridad ng pinuno kung paano na nya pinaikot ang pera sa ikagaganda ng bayan. sabi nga ni tina arena sa kanyang kanta “burn”, be what you want to be bring life to your fantasy…” ang ibig ko sabihin, kung ang pulitiko nga na tulad ng pamilya aquino u just dont have the name to back up your wish to be the next president. you also have the the guts if you could fool the people about your wishes. sadly, hindi bat si kris eh, panay back up sa image ni noy noy aquino at ginagamit ang kanyang impluwensa para manalo ang kanyang kapatid? ang sunod na tanong, kung mayaman na ang mga aquino, mabubura ba talaga ni noynoy ang corruption sa bansa natin? e kung ang spain nga nanirahan sa Pilipinas ng 300 years eh magagawa ba nya ng agaran yon? ahmmm…. o baka naman ang mayaman lalo lang yumaman kapag nanalo si aquino? wag naman sana. lord, please help us choose the best leader who could change our ideosyncrasies. amen.

Sun Sison

For 2010:
We have a presidential aspirant who was found guilty of plunder, pardoned, and now touted as a major contender. How come?

We have another presidential aspirant who likened himself to Rudy Giuliani who thought the progress of Makati is solely because of his own leadership; discounting the help of the moguls or owning their success.

We have presidential aspirants who out of a selfish personal ambition took a pinhole of opportunity and made it a sea-sized arena for publicity to either strengthen himself or destroy another. While the incumbents are now just busy collecting goods for the rainy days while they still can. They have a few months left.

With Noynoy’s candidacy the difference between a politician and a genuine leader seemed to have become more evident. It is self-evident. He did not see himself, at first, a contender nor wanted it. But an invisible and inevitable force of overflowing support made his decision not a fruit of a political dream; not of career or fame; certainly not for money. His is plain submission and not a run for the money or position. A leader who is guided by this solemn kind of call for leadership is the one kind who took himself out of the picture for the good of all. This is one kind of leader who decides on complex issues based on morality, by contemplating on what’s good for the country. After all, politics does not refer to a government position, but a means to determine, discuss, and decide what is best for the country.

Some say Noynoy is not a strong leader. But they say it because he likes to consult people. If that is going to be their strongest argument, my answer for them is this:

Between a leader with good moral character and a simply ambitious politician - I choose the one with good moral character and upbringing. Simply because an ambitious politician has only money to lose, and therefore only has money in mind to gain. Noynoy has the lives of his parents dedicated to love of country, and lost to politicians who are just like the many who are seeking the same position and power. Even if they contest that he is now running for president simply because he can’t say no, it is one tough decision to say yes. He is one who kneeled before God in response for the people’s call, and therefore he can stand before anyone. At that point – he sealed his candidacy with no less than a clean, divine conviction. Nothing less than this is what our country needs.

arsenia

Sir Harvey S. Keh, I agree with your comments regarding to a certain columnist article stating that those who do not have money will not win in electons..maybe in the past but not in this era. Filipino electorate are getting fed-up with traditional politicians and to such columnist which to my mind may have already been infected by the viruses of traditional politics in our country. I just hope that when my children became adults, we already have a better society. Presently, as Investigator in one of the GOCC, I am fighting corruption in my own little way and to the best that I could although its really…really tough coz corruption in government is seemingly already a WAY OF LIFE.

I will voluntarily campaign for Noynoy presidential bid in Southern Mindanao area for free. No strings attached. Just pure service and for the attainment of a good leader that we all longing for since the Marcos era. God Bless Noynoy and the rest of us. Sulong na Pilipinas!!!

One candidate’s political machinery is quite important especially here in our country which is not yet politically mature. a good poltical machinery is well funded, managed and organized. If noynoy cannot win with money, he must have a good platform and organization. having a mom and dad who are great politicians doesnt mean the son/daughters are good politicians also. we cannot say that noynoy will lose, or even win.its too early for that.

politics

I beg to disagree with just one statement in your article. Gov. Padaca has become a traditional politician already but being media savvy, she really knows how to project and package herself otherwise. Maybe you should now check on her house and cars.

Reforms/Changes…this is what our country needs…but how come that members from the opposition politicians dont want cha-cha when in fact filipinos we’re in dire need of change/reform???what is behind this cha-cha anyway??? the administration saying they need to update/amend some of our constitution…our beloved president Ms. Arroyo trying to do something in order to make reform/change in our country. In my opinion, our president never extend her term beyond 2010 because she is not qualified for re-election. But perhaps she would just like amend our constitution for the sake of reform not for extension of term/service as president…even though she dont verbally say on her SONA about her plans in 2010 I do believe her that she may not go beyond the limits.

FOr those who are aspiring on the highest seat/post in our governemtn/country please please please…make sure you become honest in cheating…meron ba noon???

Yes,
Mr. Keh,
Finally you have come to be a pragmatist.
But no worry, you might just be right. Noynoy will not win. It is not only money that works in elections but machinery, my friend and most of all charisma!
Take Pres. Ferdinand Marcos ,he was up against gold, goons and guns at his pre-election but with his charm, he got the nod of his opposing party and joined the Nacionalista Party at the last minute. The rest is history, and because of his charisma, his legend lives on to his children, all occupying high elective officials. As you can determine, charisma lives on, money helps, machinery wins the game.

ryan eris

i believe that people are wise enough to make their important decisions in the upcoming election… esp. the youth of this generation… as a student leader, rest assured that i will give that one shot for Sen. Noynoy for i know that he will lead our country not just for his own good but bcos he will serve as a catalyst of unity, change and peace!

OPHELIA

I AM AN OFW HERE IN CANADA WORKING AS A NURSE.,I TRULY BELIEVED NOYNOY WILL BE A GREAT PRESIDENT. ,”KUNG ANO ANG PUNO,SYA ANG BUNGA”. IKAW ANG HINIHINTAY NG SAMBAYANANG PILIPINO,A VERY SIMPLE MAN & WITH A BIG HEART TO THE LESS FORTUNATE PEOPLE. GO ! NOYNOY..WE LOVE U..VISIT US IN MINDANAO. WE WILL SUPPORT U ALL THE WAY..

reality

The reality of politics and the system that has long been in place makes it difficult for a good, qualified and uncorrupt people to win in poltics. Why? The logistics involved in going around campaining-not only in the urban areas where intelligent voters are plenty but in the rural areas- where most people are poor, where many people do not have access to electricity, radio, tv, etc. Without a group campaigning for Noynoy, it will be difficult for him to rely alone on the Cory Aquino magic. The Mariam scenario will be very difficult to revive since it took her a bit of time to organize the youth and volunteer groups- not 8 months for Noynoy.

But going back to the “reality” of Philippine politics, unless volunteers spend their own money, time and go all out for a candidate, i dont thank that candidate stands a chance?

Panlilio? Panlilio was lucky because the two heavy weights- Pineda and Lapid ran against each other. Does anyone honestly think if both combined and ran against Panlillo would Panlilio win?

Padaca is another unique candidate who won- against all odds with all mayors against her.

That is the reality of Philippine politics. It is easy for us to say that people should volunteer, should help, etc. The only way is to really overhaul our electoral system. In the US, candidates for both Democrats and Republicans are provided funds by the state to mobilize their groups. While these funds are never enough, they can be utilized at the initial stage while fund raising campaigns are being done. And yes, unless we return to the two party system, it would be difficult to for multi parties to win and worse, we end up with a minority president. IF a run off is made, it will be too costly for us.

Romeo Encarnacion

Noynoy Aquino is good. Manny Villar is good. Chez Escudero is Good. Teodoro is good. If money is the gauge for a presidentiable winner, then Manny has it.
If a powerful machinery is the measure for a winner, then Teodoro has it. And if popularity and rhetorics is the mark of a winner, then Chez has it. what has Noynoy? Sympathy and the legacy of being the son of Ninoy and Cory. All presidentiables had expressed their desire to be president of this sinking republic for quite a time, except Noynoy who decided to run for the Presidency only upon the urgings of people looking for a political change in this country. If the people really wants a dramatic change on how to help the masses, then let this people cast their vote on something really different. Noynoy definitely is the difference and is defferent from all presidentiables whom we would say, “gustong-gusto” “or atat na atat” maging presidente. Noli too may be like Noynoy, but he is much indebted to those in power. If Noynoy appeared to be indecisive, all the rest will have to decide to favor those who put them in power and so their future decisions will very much be in favor of these few. If we really want a change, then the ordinary people, the common tao, must decide. If these masses accepts money once again to determine their votes, then we are not going to have that change in governance we so desire, but only change of officials of different color perhaps but with the same kind of governance, same kind of politics, to poor the people and buy the people. Change is Noynoy. Dramatic change? Eddie Panlilio Very dramatic? Grace Padaca.

Jose Ramon Albert

Forecasts on whether or not Noynoy will win are brave to make… But in the end, such “analyses” are not important… The question is who among the current breed of presidentiables is worth supporting. Noynoy brings renewed hope which many are unable to give…

dunh

A well-said and nicely written article, Mr. Harvey. But your choice of title is such that it is “in bad taste”. Check it out and you’ll see eyebrows tweak.

Miguel

I say, dream on Harvey. I don’t think that the Pilipino people as a whole is mature enough politically to think of the consequences when they do vote. Most of them are still too easy to manipulate and that takes money. As the saying goes, money talk BS walks.

Abe

OUR BELOVED COUNTRY - PHILIPPINES NEEDS A TRUE LEADER LIKE NOYNOY AQUINO THAT HAS A GENIUNE INTENTION TO MAKE OUR COUNTRY GREAT AGAIN.

MANY PEOPLE SAYS THAT NOYNOY HAS NO PLATFORM IN GOVERNMENT, BUT FOR ME PLATFORM IN GOVT. CAN BE MADE OVERNIGHT. THE MOST IMPORTANT QUALITY OF CHOOSING A LEADER RIGHT NOW IS A PERSON LIKE NOYNOY, WHO HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVE IN ANY CORRUPTION, WELL ORGANIZED AND UPBRINGING BY THEIR PARENT,SINCERE AND GOD FEARING PERSON.

Gener Sansaet

have you researched if people in the 3rd district of tarlac or even the 2st district of tarlac are way better off than the people in the 1st district of sorsogon?

VICTOR

I certainly agree with Mr. Harvey S. Keh with regrads to his political observation it is not by money that one less budgeted candidate can’t beat a wealthy man like Mr. Manny Villar. With the entry of Sen. Noyonoy Aquino i think our children’s children will defintely bound to have a bright future ahead of them. Noynoy was brought up by two individuals who had fought for our democracy and freedom which we achieve during the late Pres. Cory’s term of office. If we really need a genuine reform let the opposition unite behind a candidate like Noynoy. Most of these presidentialbles have had been running for the elusive Presidential ambition for the past elections but failed. Former President Erap should give way to the new generation of leaders which we urgently need. Let’s rally behind Sen. Noynoy for a better and a new Philippines. Mabuhay ka Noy.

nur baltazar

Yes, Mr. Keh. All concerned Filipinos must now take a solid stand for good governance. Let us continue helping Noynoy even after getting elected as President of our country because that will be the time he needs more help from us to put in place the necessary reforms in our government.

Let us all unite and start wiping out the “patronage politics and politics as a business” mindset in our political exercises.

Alexander Carranceja

Your very much right Mr. Harley, that’s our big mistake, that kind of thinking in Philippine Politics. Our politcian are gambler they invest money and when they win the election they will try in anyway to multiply their investment. But the blame still with the filipino voters. But i’m still optimistic that someone will arise to change the climate of our politics and i believe that is Nonoy Aquino and not Mr. Villar not Mr. Escudero. Maybe this two person in the next election after 2010 election. Sir can you please write Mr. Noynoy no nead to compromise with other opposition even to former Pres. Estrada. We will vote Nonoy “not” because he is an oppositon or member of liberal party because we believe he will be a good President of the Philippines. It is better two many oppositon or administration will run for President so they will taste the worse defeat.

thanks
Alexander V. Carranceja

That is true… Leader should lead by example. I believed noynoy can live with that. Filipino’s are worth dying for… we have a lot of OFW who are truely pinoy, manny work hard for oour country, seldom are the leaders who became fair for them. most of the politician even use the the Govt project thru our taxes and put their faces on the streamers and try to show to others that that is there own project… KAPAL NG MGA MUKHA… and truethat many politician runs for higher position to protect their own interest. LETS GO NOY. I suggest noy would open a bank account wherein all those who want to donate and support him financially can now have a chance to directly donate to him. NOY I will do my best to help this country in my own little way. I know your not a superhero the only thing I want from you if ever is to learn to value and truly respect God and Us thru righteous leadership… and never Acknowledge any credit that belongs to the filipino. lift them us praise the filipino pinoy but let God Lift you up… we love u! TARA NA!!!

edevera

Mr. Harvey; at first I was hesitant to read your column.. that Noynoy will not win - yes dapat lang alisin na nating mga pilipino yung mentalidad natin na pag walang pera ang kandidatong nararapat at may gagawing matino sa Bayan eh di na siya mananalo…. kasi I am campaigning for NoyNoy and Mar 2010 tandem - and I believe to both of theor principles in running a government that is decent and that they will serve the truest interest of the people - and that the people are their masters…. Kahit walang Bilyon si Noynoy at MAr — na ipapamudmod sa mga tao - kahit sa mga mahihirap na tayo - sila pa rin ang iboboto ng tao… on the other hand kung may Bilyones ang mga kalaban - ofcourse yung mga nag donate dyan sa mga kandidatong yan - siempre may utang na loob yan - so ano gagawin nyan - eh di corruption pa rin will continue kasi dapat nilang bayaran lahat yung tumulong sa kanyang kampanya… eh san kukuha ng pera yan kundi sa kaban ng bayan ulit - so ito - walang katapusan yung ganitong sistema ng mga TRAPOS - kaya enough of this patronage politics - we need people with bright ideas / patriotic minds na BAYAN muna higit sa sarili ang mga attitude dapat / maka Diyos / at yung interest ng tao ang dapat manguna - kaya sila NoyNoy at MAr lang ang meron ng ganitong adhikain para sa bayan …

kaya Tuwang tuwa ako sa naging Desisyon ni NoyNoy….. na tumakbong Pangulo natin – yes he will bring back decency, moral leadership, sincerity, honest PUBLIC SERVANT, integrity, Democracy and most of all BAYAN MUNA bago SARILI to the Government when becomes the President… at MAS LALO KAMING MATUTUWA kung ang magiging KAAGAPAY niay dito sa ating BAGONG PILIPINAS ay walng iba kungdi si MAR ROXAS – you are my POLITICAL DREAM TEAM!!! with your Youth and Patriotic Idealism – itanim nyo at pag bungahin ang Tunay na Pagbabago dito sa ating Bansa – upang bumalik sa ating mga Pilipino ang Dignidad… BE A GOOD Example to all … Walk your Talk – ika nga…. TALAMAK ang lilipas na GMA presidency – at sana within 6 years maibalik nyo ang tiwala ng Tao sa Gobyerno – BE A PERFECT EXAMPLE ng A GOOD PUBLIC SERVANT at ito yung iiwan nyong LEGACY pagdating ng panahon – HISTORY WILL JUDGE you as the MOST CREDIBLE / MOST LOVED / DECENT PResident and VICE president of this PROUD TO BE PHILIPPINES!!! Kaya sa inyong DALAWA pa lang makikita at First Time na ang 2 PINUNO namin ay siyang magkaisa / magkapareho at tumupad para talaga sa BAYAN!!! SA yo NoyNoy – how I wish for you to get a Clear solution sa Luisita Land dispute – Yung everybody Happy – yung win-win solutions – kasi parang ito yung ibinabatong dungis sa inyong pamilya Aquino ng mga critiko nyo.. na alam ko namang may maganda kayong solusyon dyan…. Basta AQUINO – ROXAS kami ALL THE WAY!!! Ninoy Aquino at Sen. Gerry Roxas …. MABUHAY KAYO NOY-MAR (MY DREAM TEAM) – at pakasal na kayo agad para kasama sama nyo sila sa lahat ng hangarin nyo ang inyong magagandang asawa sa lahat ng magandang hangarin nyo sa ating Bansa – Sa inyo Shalani at Korina – magkaroon din sana kayo ng good working at personal relationships among both of you and work as a support group to your Husbands . . . Para we shall have WONDERFUL FOURSOME IN THE PALACE!!! GOD BLESS to Both of you and GO GO GO NOY at MAR!!!

Bong Macalalad

I am not the type of a political supporter who would carelessly announce my choice of a candidate. But in my Facebook account, I readily said “Let’s just go for Noynoy… it’s the imperative of the times….a new breed of leadership - inspirational, free from corruption and hunger for power.”

Of course, I meant it, and would stand by it unless I proved myself wrong!
Immediately, there are reactions from friends, mostly favorable. Elsewhere, I see a lot of various reactions on Noynoy’s candidacy. One bishop even warned against “joining the bandwagon.”

Another senator slammed Noynoy’s camp for using the term “good versus evil” in the coming elections. Of course, it was not Noynoy who said that, but Mar Roxas, the sometimes tactless scion of political ritzy families of Araneta and Roxas (remember his public expletives, which I supported as understandable in my other blogs).

Some sociologists try to explain the euphoria over Noynoy as some sort of political romanticism, which according to them does not have a long shelf life, meaning it could fizzle out over a period of time.

Be that as it may, I still believe that the reason for this “euphoria” is very simple. It is not a battle between Gloria and Noynoy, neither is it a battle between good or evil, I must agree. But it is a battle to win the trust of our people back. To win our people’s confidence in governance, so badly tarnished by Marcos, Erap and Gloria.

Talk to any ordinary Filipino and most likely, you will hear sadness and hopelessness. That we have become too wary of politicians, for even the incumbent, who has a PhD in Economics has only given us the most disappointing leadership of all time.

So when Noynoy, a personification of Ninoy and Cory, has announced that he is willing to take the lead, we have become euphoric. So he must live up to our expectations. Otherwise, we are a lost people.

Sadly, no politician in this generation can match Noynoy’s credibility (at least for the moment). He may not possess an impressive track record, but the thing is, we trust him. Why? Because we trust that he would not betray us, that he would not betray his parents’ legacy.

joseph

I thougth that Philippine politic is a joke.
We have an ousted president na halos lahat ng tao alam na siyay sugarol, tumador, terador o mamamatay tao, babaero at marami pa,his illegitimate son finished his term as mayor and now ang kabit ni ousted president naman ang lalaban ng pagkamayor at ang sama meron pang anak na senador.
We have a senator who is leading in the presidential poll but also leading in the biggest scam on road diversion project.
we have a senator who wants to be branded as corruption fighter but link with murder case together with the ousted president.
So, i really thougth that Philippine politics is just a joke, can you blame me?
But when senator Mar Roxas withdrew from presidential race, his gesture brougth back decency on philippine politics, it change my perspective that, somehow, there are still decent politicians on the land.
To me what Mar Roxas did is a highest form of decency, and if you dont have
it you will never understand why Mar Roxas withdrew.
Mar, God bless you.

Luvinc

Noynoy will not win because he only has the shadow of his parents to rely on.

Honesty and good intentions will never amount to anything. We need concrete ideas, sound stand on national issues, and real leadership skills.

If I am looking for a ceo, Noynoy will never be hired.

Goody

Hinde yon manalo. I came fron the rural area. All boils down to money to the leader of the community and to all his members. In rural area it is clannish. No money, no honey.

aletheia Galla

What is very important when a presidentiable backs out from his plan to join the Presidential race is his purity of intention. It is doubtful whether Mar Roxas has it. His decision to back out may have been motivated only because of some undebatable scientific fact of the survey that no matter how he spent millions of money for his advance campaign, he still remain lagging behind as no. 5. His dream to become president is bleak. This gives him the reason not to run anymore. He did not decide not to run because he loves his country or that he has to pmake personal sacrifices for his country. His lack of purity of intention in not pursuing his dream makes his act not worth praising.

glenn Lamery

Anyway all we need in this election is to be present in the precints and vote. Everything are funded by the people’s money. To promote Aquino’s bid for president is I think, word of mouth type of advertising is enough. People who understand the political conditions must be the first to discuss this matter with our family, friends, neighbors, enemies… he he he… to everyone who really believes in HOPE. We should not allowe MONEY to overshadow our principles and to overpower our will. Nonoy could win by just being standing strong behind us.

benign0

How we vote in 2010 will tell us whether we are a people fixated on the past (retrospective) or a people focused on the future (prospective).

Do we want a candidate known for things bygone or a candidate who will earn his stripes on the basis of what he envisions for our people in the future?

We can’t approach 2010 and the six years subsequent to that using 1986 thinking. We need to come up with something new — something that will unambiguously answer the question: What’s next?

joseph

Noynoy. Una, wala man lamang syang sensational accomplishment as senator. Ano ang titingnan ng tao? Dahil anak sya ni Sen. Ninoy Aquino? Kapatid ni Kris? Anak ni Pres Cory? (By the way anong pinakamalaking accomplishment ng Cory Administration after Marcos? Roppongi Hills?) Kilala si Sen. Ninoy because he stand against the policies of Marcos. Pero si Sen. Noynoy, ano sya? Tumatayo ba sya against Gloria?

May Cory Magic pa.

Noynoy Aquino, Mar Roxas, Bongbong Marcos, etc. Hindi po namamana ang pagiging Presidente.

I will rather vote for self-made man like BF Fernando or maybe Manny Villar.

Nasa Kangkunga parin..

Yes, it is Decency,Sincerity,Integrity,Moral leadership
Honest public servant that makes a good president
But even through you you don’t have that if you have
The guts to cheat and manipulate the results of the

Ala hello garci. Scandal!

roji santiaguel

you’re right, i think noynoy will not win
because he doesn’t have the charisma,

i saw this circling around in various egroups and i would just like to reiterate my earlier comment—I hope you can revise the title of your article Mr. Keh, it really doesn’t fit what you wrote about.

MARIA CONSUELO

The legacy of the parents can never be repeated in the generation of the children. He must have his own leadership qualities; and develop his own identity to be a noble politician. If I were to ask I would rather choose Diosdado Banatao to be our next president. Well, this is very much impossible but WE long for a leader who can unite all the filipinos over the world. We are waiting for a “president” who can bring forth this nation to new glory and leave poverty. But have you ever given a thought that WE are all responsible for the misfortunes of our countyr? A LEADER IS IN EACH AND EVERYONE OF US. We must awaken the leader in our spirits; and the heroes that will save our country from this catastrophe we are suffering. We should not fully depend our lives to the next president, however we, filipinos only need TEAM WORK AND UNITY to help our country rise from this misfortunes. WE, EVERY ONE OF US ARE THE ONES WHO WILL LEAD PHILIPPINES TO ITS DESTINY.
Let us believe that: FILIPINOS ARE ONE OF THE GREATEST IN THE WORLD.

The best example is William Gates that was awarded by INDIA because of his donations to the said country.. nagkataon lang na mayaman sila..

Onin

I hope and pray soooo hard that on 2010, good will triumph over evil. Sana talaga hindi manalo si Manny Villar or Joseph Estrade. Erap has proven himself a despicable type of person, and Manny is making it obvious that babawiin lang nya lahat ng nagastos nya campaigning for the elections once he assumes the highest post in the country. Our government is just infested with seniors from the Army of Hell. sana, sana we’d have a huge paradigm shift…. =)

“If I am looking for a ceo, Noynoy will never be hired.”
-quoted from Luvinc

jake zamoras

Noynoy will not win in 2010! Just because he is the son of Ninoy and Cory many people believe that he is capable of leading this nation of corrupt people into greatness.

It will not be the case, as philippine politics heavily rely on machinery and funding for one candidate to win and noynoy does not have any of those.

Besides, noynoy had not shown any exemplary quality of a great leader. many people does not even know that he served as a congressman for three terms prior of being elected as senator. He has not authored any landmark legislation for him to be noticed while in the lower house. except for being the son of ninoy and cory, noynoy has no special qualities to become a good president. he better quit politics, get married and live an ordinary life

jethernandez

I don’t agree with along with the cynical context of this “well written” article of Noynoy not winning. At this point it is not about winning or not… nobody has filed their candidacy yet. It is about building up your character and competence…. proving that you have some or otherwise. Don’t worry about the money if you’re vying for Noynoy his clans from the Cojuancos, Tanjuatcos, the Sumulongs and the Lapuzes are there the help out. Include their clans’ business affiliations with the Ayalas and the Lopezes and there you can’t argue about the concept of money if it’s Noynoy you’re talking about. Add up the so-called civil society where the MBC stands out…. you have a group of elites that can really make Noynoy winnable.

False prudence brother…. this is all false prudence.

sonnyboy

noynoy will not win this election, he is not fit to be a president, he doesnt know anything, he is only riding in the charms and charisma of his parents, his 3 terms as congressman in Tarlac, he has done nothing, besides, he will not win in Tarlac, everybody knows their reputation there and they can’t beat Danding over there, none of the Cory clan will win in that place, noynoy looks like he can’t stand alone, being a bachelor at his age I think he has a problem, he looks a weakling person, how can he handle the problem of the country if he will be elected president of this country, i read an article one time in Sunstar pampanga about noynoy candidacy, the columnist said marami namang autistic na boboto dyan. How sad to say that.

Ric

Tou cannot compare local with national elections. A candidate for Mayor may be well known to all voters, maybe even a provincial candidate. But, like in case of Panlilo, he must be known well nationwide for to have at least a theoretical chance. And for that, it needs a lot of propaganda, traveling (not just alone) and giving financial support to thousands of campaign helpers. And without having a big party behind for to support, the more.
I think anybody should know that all the reported campaign costs of candidates are just numbers, not ,ore. Often it needs ust to count posters and the reported expenses would not even cover that.

And regarding to Noynoy, what he did or tried to do for reforms as a senator? Just being Cory’s son is not enough, not to mention that even Cory did not run reforms first, butto protect Luisita after a court ordered to return it to the government since it was bought with gov. money. At least that was statedduring the campaign. And, if Cory later arised from being a housewife, there is no warranty that her son will follow, hehas the elite as his backers and pushers, not themasa which makes the big bulk of voters. So, there is really nosafety that he could win in uncheated elections.

Giboraks

Syllogism:

1. Losers lose.
2. Noynoy is a loser.
3. Hence Noynoy will lose.

romar balignasay

There’s alot of politician saying that Noynoy don’t have enough or no experience to lead the nation and don’t have any bills passed in Congress nor in Senate that he can be proud of and his of his peers, yeah he hasn’t if thats what they want, Do they have? Yes they have leadership to pocket lots of lot of money, bills of bills of $dollar, they have alot of experience in graft and corruption and the likes, logging( Arroyo’s, Enrile, Angara, Escudero Sr. and others), Land grabbing (Villar, Couangco’s, Legarda’s and others), smuggling of many kinds, fake Rd project and many more.

mr praktikal

to jake zamoras,

well said! i totally agree

tokwa

i would say noynoy will win but for him to be perceived as a good and effective leader is another false hope and assumption made by the filipino “masa”. dahil lang ba dinibdib masyado ng mga pilipino ang pagkamatay ni pres. cory eh inisip na agad natin na si noynoy ang pinkamahusay nakandidato? problema sa ating mga pilipino mahilig tayo sa drama, itoy epekto ng mga telenobela na napapanood araw-araw. lessons should have been learned from from the estrada’s and the marcoses. its all about sympathy votes. si marcos ninakawan na tayo eh ibinoto pa rin ng mga pilipino yung mga anak ni marcos sa public position. how bout erap? pati yung anak niya at asawa eh pina-upo sa senado na wala namang ginawa. kung hindi nawala si FPJ eh isa na naman sigurong false assumption ito. huwag nating urutin yung mga taong walang potential maging good leader or consider them as change agents or messiah just because they earned sympathy votes. trust me, showbiz popularity is now gaining grounds as the main parameter of winning a public office. wala pang napatunayan si noynoy at ang tanging appeal lang niya ngayon eh anak siya ni cory at ni ninoy. maging ang kapatid niyang si kris eh puro kabaduyan lang ang pinag-gagawa. ang masakit nito pati mga importanteng posisyon tulad ng senador hanggang bise presidente ay inihahanda na sa mga katulad ni willie revillame. ano na ba ang nangyayari sa ating bayan? hindi naman siguro tayo ganito ka-bobo. o talagang nangibang bayan na lahat ng matitino at matatalino? ganito na ba tayo ka-desperado? komo ba naambunan tayo ng konting pa-premyo sa isang game show ay iboboto na natin ang show host para maging senador or bise presidente? ano naman kaya ang pumasok sa kukote nitong si manny villar at inaawitan itong si willie revillame na maging running mate? akala ko ba matalinong tao itong si villar eh isa rin palang palpak. maawa naman tayo sa ting bayan. kawawa na nga eh binabastos pa natin.

pilo

JAY-R MENZ

As we are now facing for the coming election nearly 8 months rather. we must vigilance, not only for the presidenciable that we have to choose base from what they acted for (present). but also we must vigilance for our self as well. to choose who is deserving not only for the money, popularity etc. on that very snooty responsibilities to our beloved nation. we are looking for the good future not only for the present. we are longing for A GOOD LEADER, who can fulfill the hunger of the Filipino people. I hope, that every one can give a challenge for themself on this coming 2010 election. above all, we ask the guidance of our ALMIGHTY GOD.

ken

nobody in this present days have the qualities of good governance than noynoy. we need a govt that have no “crocs & diles”. this present govt have done with so much corruption and our countrymen felt these tremendous sufferings. we need a clean & honest leader like noynoy.
Another GMA cohorts? teodoro, villar, de castro? this country will not stand again! ang bansa natin pupulutin na lang ulit sa kangkungan. lugmok na lugmok na. maawa na kayo pls. napakarami ng mga pilipino ang naghihikaus ngayon. maawa na kayo sa bansa natin. iboto natin ang leader na tapat at malinis!

radj23

yehey….. if Noynoy wins….WELCOME BACK THE KAMAGANAK inc….

raymundryan

read naman the article first before reacting to the title.

islaw

islaw

willie revillame for president!

renee

I agree with you, it seems that money has become a major factor in running for elections. this is also the reason why we have corrupt officials, they dont mind pouring their wealth during campaigns because they know they can recoup all the expenses. The more ads that a politician have, the more I’m discourage to vote for them. I think what some people are doing for Noynoy, asking for 1 peso contribution from ordinary people for his campaign is a good start. Atleast, if Noynoy wins, he owes it to the people and not to his family’s wealth or to some business man who will just ask favor in return.

moymoy palaboy

ayokong magsalita ng tapos tungkol dyan kay noynoy. minsan nasosobrahan tayo ng pag-hanga sa isang tao na wala pa talagang naipakitang katatagan at kahusayan sa pamumuno para sa isang bansang sangkatutak ang problema. ang lahat ng katangian ni noynoy na ipinaglalantaran ng mga taga-suporta at kulang sa pansin na media ay sa kanila lang nanggaling at hindi kay noynoy. si noynoy ay hindi masamang pulitiko pero marami pa siyang dapat patunayan. sa tagal na rin niya sa pulitika, masyado siyang tahimik. walang iniwan kay de castro. tumahimik lang na parang may gagawing isang napakalaki at napakagandang hakbangin pero hanggang ngayon tahimik pa rin. mukhang naghihintay pa rin ang mga tao na ipakita niya na siyay karapat-dapat. sa totoo lang, wala pa siyang naipakita at napatunayan kaya tama na yang sobrang build-up. sabi nga nung isang blogger, baka pag pumalpak yan eh back to square one tayo at katakot-takot na sisihan na naman. watch out for the critics that are jsut hanging around the corner waiting for him to assume the presidency. siguradong yayariin ng mga magagaling na kritiko at kalaban hanggang umalagwa si noynoy na parang saranggolang umembang.

moymoy palaboy

The Five (5) Qualities of Sen. Noynoy – Why He should be President

The Five (5) Qualities of Sen. Noynoy

By Alex Lacson

Below are what I call the five (5) essential qualities of Senator Noynoy Aquino that make him the best candidate and the most qualified to hold the vast powers of the presidency of our country.

“The essentials are always the most important”, says Confucius, one of the great and founding philosophers of China

1) On Power

Has Senator Noynoy ever abused any of his powers in the past? He was a presidential son for 6 years, a congressman for 9 years, and a senator for 2 years. Is there any report or record of abuse power against him? The answer to this question is crucial because public office is, first and foremost, about the powers of that office. Therefore, it is very important to know how a leader uses the powers in his hands. Does he use them to truly help the people that he leads, or does he use them only for himself, his family and friends? As for Senator Noynoy, there is no issue or report or record of abuse of power against him. Thus, I firmly believe that, if and when he becomes our president, he will be responsible and humble in the exercise of his powers. In fact, there is a great part of me that believes that he would use those powers to help the poorest of our people, the weakest of our citizens, and to build our country and our name Filipino great. Of all the presidentiables in the country, I believe that Senator Noynoy is the most qualified to hold the great powers of the presidency. Two (2) months ago, he was not even planning to run for president. His name was not even part of the presidential equation. It was the turn of events that put him where he is now. It seems like it is destiny that is seeking him out. Plato once said “he who does not seek power is the most qualified to hold it.”

2) On Money

The issue of money is very important because public office is also essentially about people’s money. Is there an issue of graft and corruption or stealing or misuse of public funds against Senator Noynoy in the past? There is none. Absolutely none. Unlike what is happening among many of our leaders in the country today, Senator Noynoy has a very clean record when it comes to the use of people’s money. Thus, I am confident that, if and when he becomes our president, he will also not steal or use our people’s money for his own or his family’s gain.

3) On Lifestyle

As noticed by the media and the public, Senator Noynoy has a decent and very simple lifestyle. He is not a womanizer, a gambler, or even a drinker. He carries himself in simple clothes, and appears to have no materialistic desires. This is also important because, as we see too often in our country, many government leaders and politicians bring their vices into the position they occupy. If my observation is accurate, no amount of wealth and materials in this world may tempt Senator Noynoy to turn his back on his oath of office, if and when he becomes our president.

4) Good Heart

So many signs show that Senator Noynoy has a good heart. When his father Ninoy was assassinated in 1983, Senator Noynoy served his family well, and even delayed getting married because he wanted to take care of his mother and sisters. During the wake and funeral of your mother, it was also learned on TV that Senator Noynoy is the one taking care of Joshua, as a father would take care of his own son. All these convince me that Senator Noynoy has a good heart, the heart of a loving and caring big brother. I am confident that, if and when he becomes our president, Senator Noynoy will also serve his big family – the Filipino people – with the heart of a loving and caring big brother. I am confident that, if and when he becomes president, he will be a public servant instead of a public master.

5) Competence

As his father Ninoy fought and died for the Filipino, as his mother President Cory loved and served the Filipino people well with grace and decency, I am confident that Senator Noynoy will also love and serve the Filipino in the same measure. And because of this love for our people, Senator Noynoy has the competence to build an honest and competent government for the Filipino people. By appointing honest and competent officials to every position in government, Senator Noynoy can build for our people an honest and competent government. Truth is, this is the kind of competence that we need from a leader, the competence to build an honest and a competent government for our people. This kind of competence only comes from the heart, not from intelligence or skills. A famous Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, said “In choosing a leader, the heart is the most important. Intelligence and skills come second only in importance.” In fact, US President Theodore Roosevelt warned that “Intelligence without morality is a great danger to society”.

At present, all I want is a decent leadership that give our people a decent government.

I believe that Senator Noynoy can give our people both of these.

I believe that he can bring our country into the right direction.

I believe that he can bring our country into the direction of our dreams for our country.

let’s give noynoy the benefit of the doubt, noong sinabi niyang “tuloy ang laban” i’m sure he will do everything not to fail the legacy of his parents… kailangan lang natin magtulongan para manalo siya at magtiwala sa kanya na kaya niyang gawin ang tungkulin niya bilang presidente.

para sakin, to create a legacy and effect change for our country…
Lahat sila’y may mabuting dahilan..

jerseygirl

Noynoy will not win because of his anti-life stand thru RH Bill — he will not have the support of the Roman Catholic Church, other Christian groups who are pro-life and many other pro-lifers…

The Insider

Harvey,

You sound like any “Tagalog Elitista” back when castillaloys are still ruling Manila. You believe that you know it all. So typical for an atenista.

Those local politicians you mentioned also spent a lot of money; more money than an ordinary Filipino will ever have in their lifetime. I know. They do not deserve any special recognition.

Feel free to voice out your opinion but keep it at that — an opinion. If you will begin mixing up facts with fiction ala Dan Brown, please do so without being judgmental of others writing.

boyet

Dont support & vote for the candidates who are spending a lot of money from their own pocket. Let us support and contribute to a candidate that is honest, humble & God fearing person.

Dont sell our votes for this coming election. I believe that the Philippine will rise up if we will unite in electing a rigtheous leader for our country in 2010 election.

Mabuhay po ang Pilipinas.

God Bless us all.

Jose Rizal
