What’s next for Roxas, Panlilio, Padaca and Pangilinan?

By Harvey S. Keh The past three weeks we have all been witness to the rebirth of hope and change in our country brought about by the recent declaration of Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s that he will indeed continue the fight left behind by his parents and make a run for the Presidency this coming 2010 elections. The reaction of the Filipino people to Aquino’s candidacy has been nothing short of overwhelming as evidenced by the banner story of the Philippine Daily Inquirer today which states that according to an SWS Survey conducted in the vote-rich areas of Luzon, 50% of Filipinos would vote for Aquino while the former top-notcher Senator Manny Villar is a far distant second at only 14%. This momentum for unity, reform and change has also been fueled no doubt by the personal sacrifices made by Senator Mar Roxas, Governor Eddie Panlilio, Governor Grace Padaca and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan. Roxas, Panlilio and Padaca all said that they will no longer pursue their bids for the highest position in the land while Pangilinan has clearly stated that he will also forego his bid for the Vice-Presidency to support an Aquino-Roxas ticket. So what is next for these four selfless public servants? As we all know, Aquino has categorically said that he wants Roxas to be his running mate in the 2010 elections which I think is a very good decision given the deep relationship and trust that these two gentlemen have for each other. Let us remember that the position of Vice-President is very important given that s/he will just be a heartbeat away from being our next President. Thus, it is imperative that Aquino choose someone whom he believes can become a good leader for our country. Roxas also comes from the vote-rich Western Visayas region which will definitely help Aquino who in turn comes as well from another vote-rich region, Central Luzon. Panlilio is still deciding whether to continue to pursue politics or go back to the priesthood. His main focus right now is to ensure that the on-going recount filed against him by his opponents will not prosper thus, his group Kapampangan Kontra sa Recount together with Kaya Natin and Kilos Na are currently asking for support from friends and supporters towards raising funds to pay the revisors at COMELEC and continue to protect the integrity of the result of the last 2007 elections. If Panlilio decides to pursue politics, he has told us that he is eyeing a Senate run under the Aquino ticket or another run for Governor against current Vice-Governor Yeng Guiao and Senator Lito Lapid. For Isabela Governor Grace Padaca, who, aside from being a co-founder of Kaya Natin, is also a stalwart of the Liberal Party (LP), she is currently being eyed by LP to be one of their Senatoriables together with former Senate President Franklin Drilon, Rep. Ruffy Biazon and former Rep. Neric Acosta. The dilemma that Padaca is currently faced with is that she can still run for one more term as Governor and the clamor for her to stay in the province continues to grow. In our last conversation, Padaca remains open to running for the Senate but said that she will continue to consult her supporters before she makes a final decision on her plans for 2010. Padaca together with former Senate President Jovito Salonga and Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo are all LP leaders who were awarded the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service (acknowledged as the equivalent of the Nobel Prize in Asia). For his part, Pangilinan is currently active in helping push the Presidential bid of Aquino. He together with Panlilio, Sonia Roco, Jim Paredes and Bam Aquino are the initial convenors of the movement, Pilipinas para kay Noynoy (PINOY) which brings together multi-sectoral reform organizations towards supporting the Presidential run of Aquino. Assuming that an Aquino-Roxas team-up will materialize, Pangilinan is also rumored to be a possible candidate for Mayor of Quezon City where he once served as a City Councilor. Pangilinan will make a good Secretary of Justice; Padaca should make one more run as Governor; If Panlilio decides to pursue politics, he should give up his Priesthood completely. I'd vote for Roxas whether he runs for VP or the Senate again.

Our country needs a strong leader - decisive, nationalisitic and patriotic.

Noynoy has only the shadow of his deceased parents to speak of; while,
Gibo has a besides cabinet title - a rich name. Both are nice, good looking guys - clean cut but are INEXPERIENCED.

I need a strong & decisive leader for the Republic.

Show me.

Binay! Duterte! Chavit Singson! Ping Lacson! Etecetera.....

The guys mentioned above has one strong common trait - that this Republic sorely needs.

In the words of Exec Sec Ermita: " .... his own man!" And may I add: ".....his own mind!"

Erap had his moment of greatness. He represented the ordinary filipino. I admired his wit, grit and his humanity. But he squandered the opportunity to be a great leader. From my perspective, he KNOWINGLY "allowed" himself to be manipulated or used against the interest of the greater good: the filipino people.

He failed me and millions of ordinary filipinos.

This time, show me a strong candidate: a for-the people-leader: nationalistic, patriotic. decisive and strong!

My best tandem for President and Vice-President, including senatoriables for the next 2010 elections. I called their team "MATAPAT NA PANGKAT"

President: NoyNoy Aquino
Vice-President: Jojo Binay

Senators

1.) Panlilio
2.) Padaca
3.) Drilon
4.) Roxas
5.) Maza
6.) Ocampo
7.) Lobredo
8.) Casiño
9.) Keh
10.) Villanueva
11.) Rosales
12.) baraquel

Dream team di ba!Sila ang dapat iboto siguradong uunlad ang pilipinas. We urgently needed a Clean and honest government. VOTE STRAIGHT!! MATAPAT NA PANGKAT

that's it?let us join hand's again for this fight, for noynoy.let's put him in that big house with mar,and let them to find what medicine to be needed for this cancerous illnesses made by gloria
and his allies.go,go,go noynoy for president of the republic of the phillippines...
let us put our hope to noynoy!

Good article. But, I must comment that I think our people's faith in Aquino is way too overblown. Both of them. One, Cory Aquino was by all accounts a terrible president. I dont understand how our voting brethren can so blindly support someone who, at best, moved the country sideways during her 6 years as President. I agree that she was great for stopping repression in the Philippines but that is it. Two, NoyNoy is a perfect example of political symbols being too powerful in our culture. What has done as a politician? Nothing? It clearly took the death of his mother to bring his name out of the shadows. Without her, shes just another lame duck politician, is he not?

to mar roxas: i think that's it for your ambition to become president of this beloved republic. i feel sorry for you because you have lost your very chance to become one. what's the reason for throwing the towel at this early? your attitude seems to have affected your ambition. what if your are already at the realm of power? do you think it would be that easy to face surmounting problems of the country as what you have encountered during the early part of your quest for the presidency? i think 2016 would be a different scenario. you have already lost your chance. its gonna be: "its now or never".

To: Philippine Daily Iquirer thru: Harvey S. Keh;
Well., we hope and pray that these two untarnished Gentlemen politician will make it comes 2010 for President & Vice President of the Philippines. We., here in abroad are already FEED UP with the so- called TRAPOS.,we want a cleaner picture for us here in the overseas..not being alleged as one of the most graftridden country in Asia. To our kababayans..! Let us guard our Votes.
Ernie B. Pideli/ UK

Let's hope that the other presidentiables and vice-presidentiables for the opposition will follow the example of these 4 leaders and set aside their political ambitions to join the fight instead to make sure that the administration's candidate will lose. Only in unity will there be strength. And only in their self-sacrifice will the public see their sincerity to serve the Filipino people.

YES to Noynoy. but i have reservations now with sen. roxas. if roxas wins.... korina is not far behind. tsk, tsk, tsk!

to mar roxas: i think for you to let go the presidency to nonoy is a: that's it for you. as an avid fan and supporter, i am disgusted to what you did. i think this is the same way to the others. what you did to me is a display of a weak personality. how would you solve the unsormountable problems of the country when the way you displayed during the prelims is already disgusting? i hope you would reconsider or it would really a : "it's now or never" on your part.

It must be a great selfless surrender for Mar Roxas and the other 4 to abandon a personal lifetime political ambition. What they did is an awesome sacrifice to strengthen their partty and definitely ensure the LP victory in 2010. We need more politicians of their kind. Mabuhay po kayong lahat at mabuhay ang Pilipinas. clemolsem-Osorio of London

to ikaw ang pinoy" ithink you're a protegee of atty.oliver lozano.

Noynoy and Mar are good combinations as honest leaders. Respected governors and mayors like Padaca, Panlilio, Robredo, Pangilinan, Sharon cuneta will not give their support if these gentlemen are corrupt. His sisters like Balsy na alam nating very low profile ay todo ang support. I believe na para makamtam natin ang landas patungo sa progreso ibigay natin support sa dalawang ito.

Remember, The father of chiz escudero is Marcos cronies, NPC party belong to Danding Conjungco, Villar has questionable character, Joseph Estrada corrupted SSS fund, BW inside trading, Jueteng payollas, Bentain, Dacer Corbito, at ang talamak niyang pagsisinungaling tungkol sa balatkayong niyang paglalakbay salamat sa buong pilipinas at ngayon sa bandang huli 99.9% percent siyang kakandidato. He is a self serving person. Sugarol, maraming asawa ito ba ang klase ang magiging presidente. How about Clarissa Ocampo statement about Velarde billion account. Think it over mga kababayan.

I was saddened and dimayed by the decision of Mar Roxas to back-out in the presidential race because in my opinion he got all the qualities and character of a good president. But I will support Mar for whatever position he will run this election because i still believe in him and if not now there is always another time for him to led this country for the betterment of the Filipino people.
