POOR Manny.
He’s made us proud time and again with his incredible exploits inside the boxing ring, but his ill-fated decision to enter the political arena resulted in a humiliating defeat.
What’s worse, if this information from a reader of Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Recah Trinidad is true, Pacquiao lost the election and a lot of his own money because he was “knocked out” by his own general campaign manager.
Here’s an excerpt from Recah’s column piece:
Reader Renato Ramones Reyes, who gave his address at 10 Magsaysay Avenue, Gen. Santos City, threw most of the blame on Pacquiao’s general campaign manager whom he described as an irresponsible, greedy, incompetent hanger-on who took advantage of Pacquiao’s sincerity and innocence:
* * *
We reprint the handwritten letter in its original form:
Dear Sir,

I think there is something else, too, that Manny should think over. Fights should look really serious, what the Morales fights did not.
On a serious fight, how it was possible that Morales has been allowed by his coach to stop training and instead to live comfortable, resulting in heavy overweight just two weks prior to tha fight. And then he had to fasten and use medicines for to lose weight which of course made him unable to stand 12 rounds of a serious fight. It looked much more like the result is anyway pre-fixed so that Morales did not need to be in good condition.
It was also funny at the third fight that Morales handwinked off the counting like being powerless but just minutes later helaughed and discussed already, looking anything but not powerless.
This gives easy the impression that such fights are fixed by money and planned to make money, knowing the eager Filipinos who easy spend big amounts to be at such fight.
Maybe RP boxers should also not rely that much on Mexicans since there are not so many real high class boxers, or do they not want others who maybe would more dangerous? How ever, fights and wins should always look serious, avoiding anything which could be seen suspicious.

It is nothing news that professional boxing in the first is business, in the second is often a dirty business with plenty cheating and fixing where money makes winners and losers and maybe in the third it is some kind of sport.
And Paquiao maybe has been thinking that election is not far from that and has now learned that still not all can be fixed with money.
If really he spent 170 million, then the question is: Was he just writing off this amount for the joy to be a congressman, or did he think that as congressman he easy can get it back, how ever, but not via his salary.

I don’t know why manny let other people control him, maybe he is just used to be coached that’s why he jump in to politics. Sometimes popularity is not enough see lots of stars today that joined politics lose. Why people are more intelligent now.,they know how to chose. Sorry i like manny as a boxer but i don’t like the feeling of him becoming a politician.
July 12th, 2007 at 9:49 am
in politics, it’s the brain not the fists that matters. truth hurts. you can’t have everything in this world. don’t be so greedy, concentrate on your boxing career. don’t let others steered your life; gma, singson, atienza, et at. they’re just using you. wake up pacman, it’s not yet too late to redeem yourself from ignomity. GOOD LUCK TO YOUR UPCOMING FIGHT WITH BARRERA.
July 12th, 2007 at 8:36 am
July 9th, 2007 at 10:24 am
Manny god made you for boxing not for politics. If you want to help your kababayan do it in some other ways like putting up schools and boxing gym for free. I’m sure you be recognized better by the Filipinos! I hope you learned your lesson from this!
June 28th, 2007 at 1:50 pm
mahirap talaga mag-isip under pressure. kung ano anong idea ang naiisip. i think his loss served a very good purpose na rin to our country. the rest of the filipinos will realize na they don’t have to vote for fame. manny might have ended the trend. he was a perfect example. even if he won’t be able to serve by means of politics, he already did by loosing—-by sending a message to the filipino public that we can actually challenge the tendency of voting for a celebrity.

Na-knockout ka Manny!!! Bangon!!!
Mag-ipon ka ulit pero huwag mo gamitin sa politics and never ever follow some politicians.
Good that I read this news headline: “Pacquiao Takes College Entrance Exams.” This is your new beginning. Who knows someday you can make it to become a succesfull stateman not a politician. Am sure you choose a good school and will be guided by their teaching.
Anyway, if you push thru in college and finish a course please don’t forget to visit this site: http://www.notredamegensan.org/AboutUs-f.html

170m for a congressional seat? man, it will be very hard, even for an unknown candidate, to lose an election with that amount of campaign money! wether the allegations against manny’s GCM is true or not is irrelevant. pacman, for all our biases against his political excursion, should have won that election if indeed he spent 170m on his campaign. hindi lang nai-package nang matino c manny nung GCM nya.that in itself is a big crime for a GCM. i saw one of manny’s campaign sorties on tv. para syang mouthpiece(read: tuta) ng malacanang sa mga pinagsasasabi nya. samantalang c darlene, palaban na palaban ang dating. mas macho pa k manny!
well, thats that. i pity manny’s next opponent in the ring. sotto, marquez or barrera, they’ll be in the receiving end of “the pacman’s” frustrations! bugbog!
June 10th, 2007 at 9:13 am
Let it be a lesson to all!!NOT because YOU are famous or an actor/actress, you will win the election!! MANNY , DON’T BE STUPID NOR BE A SUCKER, CHOOSE YOUR TRUE FREINDS, some of your friends are only after your MONEY , and POLITICS IS NOT YOUR LINE OF SERVICE TO YOUR PEOPLE. Stick to boxing, help by putting up a foundation, school, boxing arena for future boxers, and the like and STOP DREAMING TO BE A GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL, HINDI MO LINYA ITO, MANNY!! matauhan ka na sana naman…sayang ka!!
June 8th, 2007 at 9:18 pm

June 8th, 2007 at 6:02 pm
Nauto kc n Gloria.
June 8th, 2007 at 1:05 am
Sometimes people think na malaki ang maitutulong nila kong papasok sila sa politcs, but they didn’t realize that the politics is the dirtiest proffession…but we can’t blame Pacman, he thinks that popularity is the best asset when in comes to politics for you to easy to win the election, at malamang yan din ang promise ng mga politicians behind his candidacy…since he lose..he will learned from that lesson…he is meant for boxing not for anything else…kaya na po natin sya masyado sisihin mga kababayan…im not agree with his decision entering on politics, but we don’t have right to hinder what he wants to do…PACMAN GOODLUCK TO YOUR BOXING CAREER! we still proud of you!
June 7th, 2007 at 1:08 pm
PULITIKA pinakamaruming trabaho yan…gusto mo ba yan?
June 6th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
@batang tambo
I suggest you turn off the Caps Lock on your PC. In ‘Net lingo, what you did is pretty much scream your entire head off.
And please, do insert breaks in your paragraph. Reading text with no spaces in between hurts the eyes.
June 6th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
June 6th, 2007 at 12:43 pm
You will be the bigggest heartbreak story of Philippine boxing kung di ka magbabago.
June 6th, 2007 at 12:39 pm
Look at Mike Tyson. He earned $300 M pero ubos lahat. Ingat ka kabayan.
June 6th, 2007 at 7:03 am
I guess Manny had a lot of lessons learned - marami na syang blunder, from contract signing (parang autograph daw kung pumirma) to greediness, to allowing himself to be steered by other people. Manny, take your time, you’re young and have all the time in the world to make a difference. gaya ng sabi nang iba diyan, build school or conduct boxing clinic - long lasting ang effect ng mga ito.
June 6th, 2007 at 6:56 am
June 6th, 2007 at 2:03 am
Nagpauto ba naman kay GMA eh.
Lesson for Manny: Don’t hang around people like Chavit and Atienza - especially Chavit. Ang dapat na dikitan mo are people like Gilbert Remulla or Alfredo Lim.
Better luck next time.
June 6th, 2007 at 1:13 am
SI MANNY PACQUIAO KAYA AY MAKAKARECOVER PA SA RECENTLY DEFEAT NYA SA ELECTION, THIS TIME I THINK MANNY IS STILL SHOCK AND DISMAY IN HIS DEFEAT. I TOLD YOU BEFORE MANNY IF YOU WANNA HELP YOUR POOR KABABAYAN, YOU CAN BUILD A SCHOOL FOR THEM (CHILDREN) AND A BOXING CLINIC WITHIN THE WHOLE PHILIPPINES. IKAW AY IPINANGANAK SA SPORTS OF BOXING, AND WHY YOU LET YOURSELF BE INVOLVED IN A DIRTY, RUDE POLITICS OF THIS NATION. YOU WILL BE EEFECTIVE PROVIDER OF TRAINING FOR OUR YOUTHS AND HOPEFUL OF MINDANAO’S KIDS. YAN NAUBOS ANG KINITA MO SA BOXING DAHIL SA MALING DESISYON MO, TANDAAN MO NA THE “VOICE OF THE PEOPLE IS THE VOICE OF GOD” MAKINIG KA SA MGA NAKAKATANDA SAYO NA HUWAG NA PUMASOK SA PULITIKA. SANA MAGTANDA KA NA. ANG MGA KALABAN MO NA MGA LATINO, AT IBA PANG BOKSINGERO GUSTO KA NA PATAYIN SA IBABAW NG RING, ISANG SUNTOK LANG ANG MAG PAPA RETIRE SAYO SA BOXING. MAG ISISP KA MANNY!
June 6th, 2007 at 1:04 am
I hope that this is a lesson for all celebrities who thinks that they can win the vote of the common tao. They should start first for the basic local community if they want to prove themselves and try another ladder if they wish to expand more,
June 6th, 2007 at 12:49 am
Pacquiao loss the election because he is not qualified.PERIOD ,he did’nt even reach 1st year of college education, GED nah. Manny will start to realized that politics is no longer”PASIKATAN” Look at all the candidates that he endorses during the last election sa Senate, City Mayors …LAHAT TALO..
Basta GMA talo KA. He should just concentrate in boxing, kaya lang chicken dahil ayaw lumaban kay Marquez..
June 6th, 2007 at 12:45 am
June 6th, 2007 at 12:35 am
I am an avid fan of Pacquiao and has been following all his fights since he became champion by defeating Sasakul. Everytime he fights in the ring, I always wished and prayed that he wins. However, I was dismayed when he announced that he will run for congress despite his lack of qualifications as a legislator. I believe he belongs to the boxing world and never in politics. I rejoiced when he lost in his political bid.
June 5th, 2007 at 11:52 pm
Manny is just a Filipino who thinks fame is the key to everything. Maybe during the time when Erap ran for President, may be he would have won. But now Filipinos have awaken and have realized that electing celebrities in high government seats are not always a good choice.
June 5th, 2007 at 11:46 pm
Actually the reason why they are blaming the campaign manager of Pacquiao is that the election fund for which may be used for vote buying (trend in mindanao) was not properly distributed or only a portion of it was delivered to the constituents. Much worst the remaining election fund for the trully intended purpose of political adds and other materials was not spent properly. Indeed there is not only 1 person to blame but all of his (manny) greedy and friendly user advisers and managers. I hope he did not spent his winnings just for the election. Eh si Bossing wala bang binigay? if not wasn’t for him hindi naman tatakbo ang kawawang bayani ng mga boksingero.
June 5th, 2007 at 11:11 pm
Pacman was banking on his popularity but the congress seat booted him out dahil naka boxing shorts lang siya. Ano siya Congressman Pac-cute? Ano sinuswerte?
June 5th, 2007 at 10:35 pm
June 5th, 2007 at 10:26 pm
Moot point if you ask me.
I think boxing fans didn’t want Manny to win–they wanted him to box. I don’t think it’s about some womanizing campaign manager.
