Arroyo unhappy over Beijing debacle

08/23/08

Posted under Olympics, Sports

Yup, like most Filipinos watching the Beijing 2000 Olympics, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is also disappointed.

Marc Anthony Reyes of the Philippine Daily Inquirer writes:

MANILA, Philippines—He has not talked to her yet, but Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Butch Ramirez yesterday said that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is “not happy” because of the country’s Olympic medal shutout in Beijing.

The PSC head said he heard from very reliable sources of the President’s reaction after the athletes fell, one by one, by the wayside of the road to what was expected to the first ever Olympic gold medal.

The President personally rooted from the sidelines for the 15-member Olympic delegation during the opening ceremony.

In recent Beijing Olympic issue: I have read some article, that our sports officials and their coaches/trainers were proudly and broadcasting publicly, that some of our athletes were broken some of our own Philippines records…

    Amazingly or maybe Disgracely!!!…

Lady’s and Gentlemen’s of Sports Organization, Committee, etc… please AIM HIGH!!!… Sports event is about winning and bringing honor to a nation and to its people…

Ang bababaw naman ng kaligayahan nyo… mahiya naman sana kayo kahit konti… at samahan nyo na rin ng konting pagsusumikap… di nyo ba napansin na lahat ng mga kapitbahay natin na bansa nakakuha ng medal and they were all listed in medal tally list…

Please next time… we don’t need an announcement, that you have broken some of our own records which brings nothing but humiliations….

Sports in the Philippines is for the can afford Pinoys or FIL-AMS only. Officials are not scouting talent in national levels. Hiring Fil-Ams will only degrade local athletes confidence, therefore athletes optimal performance cannot be achieved. Officials does not have faith in local athletes, those athletes who compete because of monetary motivation will only compete for personal glory not for the Glory of our Motherland.
Philippines is not America…True blood pinoy don’t distinguished themselves as Fil-Ams (little-brown American)…but Filipino only..there is no other type of Filipino in the world…there is only one filipino and that is the Pinoy in the Philippines.

Is he or she has vision and a right goal to achieve a world class Pinoy athletes? Then, if Conjuanco and other POC officials are not doing the job well, then what are you waiting for, kick them. Hu…beware do not politicized the appointment…select the the best not the politicians…baka naman pag politician eh…sasakmalin lang ang pundo…warning…warning…ate glo gising.
