IT was a lopsided fight with Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao dominating every round.

At the end of the eight round, Oscar “The Golden Boy” De La Hoya threw in the towel, and the fight was over. Pacquiao won via technical knockout over De La Hoya.

Pacquiao proved to be the better fighter. His straight left proved an efficient weapon against De La Hoya who was unable to shake off Pacquiao. The Filipino fighter who was landing punches at will was just too fast for De La Hoya.

You can read the round-per-round updates of the fight from here.

The following are notes from INQUIRER.net US Sales Director Esther Misa-Chavez who was in the US to witness the fight.

Manny Pacquiao not only did himself proud Sunday (Saturday night in Las Vegas) but carried the country on his shoulders to victory. Thanking his kababayans, he spoke in Tagalog to extend his appreciation to everyone who has supported him.

From post-fight press conference at the MGM Grand Media Room: A lot of experts had to eat crow tonight for doubting the mighty pound-for-pound king of the world. Of the three major fights he had this year, the victor spoke to the media right after the fight wearing a blue suit and necktie, looked every bit a CEO announcing his latest acquisition. And so he did with finesse. He showed very little bruising on his face, smiling as always and graciously acknowledged his opponent, De La Hoya, who was a no show for medical reasons. Manny Pacquiao’s exhaustive training has paid off, the coveted dream was his.

Pacquiao fans from all over the world came wearing his colors and unabashedly showed them off. Latino celebrities notwithstanding, from Mark Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, Mario Lopez, George Lopez and others who came to see the fight and cheer the ” “Golden Boy” De La Hoya could not squash the fighting spirit of the man of the hour and his loyal supporters. This time, they were no match.

manny pacquiao is the king of boxing and should not be bowing to this hypocrite politicians that taking advantage of manny’s popularity to advance their own personal agenda. Filipinos around the world loves and admire you for being a good boxer please dont fall into the trap of dirty politics and politicians that doesnt even patronize sports in real but only putting up a show for thier political interest.

Ole

Congratulation Manny, yes you are the king in your class, and truly, like one here are saying, don’t get into politics, you don’t need this dirty job.

Ole

Manny, you are not only watched by Filipinos, I’m from Denmark

Manny Pacquiao is no hero in the boxing world and the united states. He fought Oscar at an old age. If Manny would have fought Oscar 2 years ago. Oscar won have knock him out. Manny is just like any other person from the PI. You have no skills in sports.

Ode to a fighter

He’s put on a show once again.
Like a bee devouring the nectar
Perhaps being a real mexecutioner
Handing him his nightmare
He floats around the ring
To a flower that’s not moving
Delivering blow after blow
Forcing his opponent out to bow
That was a terrific show.
For a great boxer like de la Hoya
Is being reduced to a Piñata
Feeling sorry for him I tell ’ya.
As he kneel down after the bout
To thank his God for this event
The true warrior with a heart
One of the greatest without a doubt

Everyone was cheering for Pacman
He’s put on a great show once again.

It was a lazy old Dela Hoya I’ve seen last Sunday. You can’t see any effort from him to win. Plus, the performance of Manny was outstanding. This i know was a reason it was a mismatch. Dela Hoya lacked preparation, as opposed to what he said that he came prepared. Just read this thread http://forums.doghouseboxing.com/index.php?showtopic=136478

I lost with my bet, but still proud as Manny won convincingly. I just pitty Dela Hoya he was humiliated by our hero.
With the same performance, or even better, I would bet on Manny on his fight with Ricky Hatton. Would you? :-)

He’s buzzing around the ring
as he hovers he was stinging
delivering blow after blow
forcing his foe out to bow.

That was a terrific show.
What makes him tick we’ll never know.
For a great boxer like de la Hoya
is now being reduced to a Piñata.

He knelt down after the bout
to thank his God for this event
a true warrior with a heart
one of the best without a doubt.

He entertained the whole nation
time stood still in adoration
they were cheering his name Pacman.
He’s put on a great show once again.

You are a great inspiration to the Filipino people more so to the masses. You give them hope and aspiration, that in hard work, will, attitude, and facing on challenges head on, chance to succeed is a great possibility, be an ICON of inspiration stay way from politics and the greed, of politicians self interest and that their sole purpose is to increase their ill gotten personal cofers.

Congratulations Again Manny…Kabagis was right. Fans all over the word loves you. I am fan of yours. I just want to add something on what he said. In the ring you will have OPPONENTS while in politics… ENEMIES. Not all of them but sometimes your closest allies.
Do you think they will be at your side now if you quit boxing since your first knock out by Torrecampo?

Boy Simbajon

Manny has given the Philippines the highest honor in sports. To say congratulations is just not enough for his great achievement.
He is todays inspiration for change. His dedication for love of God,country & people is for our politicians to follow not Manny to follow them. Politics is dirty, greedy & deadly. Let’s keep away Manny from it.

Please ask Eric Buhain and Rufus Rodriguez what is their comment. They proposed to the boxing body that the fight should be cancelled. Buhain even wrote to WBC president to stop the fight for mismatch.

Too bad Al Mendoza said the fight was “benta”. I don’t know why he can’t just be proud that a pinoy fought his heart out for all the Filipinos and not for himself

A lot of bad-mouthing about Pacquiao ’s victory over Dela Hoya leaves a bad taste in the mouth. As an amateur boxer eons ago, I know for a fact, that the fight wasn’t rigged. My harsh affair with boxing (with a broken nose and ruptured chest muscle to booth) makes me an astute commentator on matters within the province of the sweet sport. The blows delivered by Manny were undoubtedly, lethal combinations which only true boxers such as myself can ascertain. They were not telegraphed or scripted. No sane pugilists would allow himself to stoop so low for money at the price of being hit by such debilitating power. I should know. My experience inside the ring provides me a clearer vantage point via-a vis loud-mouthed inexperience bedside commentators who only know the sport from comic books and yet pretend to be omniscient thereof. Hypocrites and wannabees shut up.
