Pacquiao insists: No Hatton deal

As far as Manny Pacquiao is concerned, there is still no deal to fight British slugger Ricky Hatton.

This was confirmed Friday by Pacquiao adviser Rex “Wakee” Salud, who said that the Filipino superstar isn’t fighting Hatton unless the revenue sharing tilts to his favor.

“Manny’s stand is the same; he is not fighting unless the numbers move to his favor,” Salud told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Pacquiao is demanding 60 percent of fight and pay-per-view purses, a sharing that does not sit well with the Hatton camp, which claimed that a verbal arrangement for a 50-50 split had already been made.

Salud’s statement conflicted with that of Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum, who claimed Wednesday that the fight is back on track after Pacquiao was promised half of the PPV revenue in Britain, where Hatton has a huge following.

In an interview with boxingconfidential.com’s Michael Marley, Arum said Pacquiao could earn more than the $10 million he got from shaming Oscar De La Hoya last month.

“Manny just got 32 percent in the De La Hoya fight,” Arum was quoted as saying.

Arum also said the MGM Grand Arena has been selected as the venue for the fight.

Asked if Pacquiao would be amenable to a 55-45 deal, an idea broached by trainer Freddie Roach, Salud replied: “He might. But he is still thinking about it.”

Pacquiao is expected in Bacolod City today to grace the opening of the Smart-ABAP National Amateur Boxing Championships.

Manny is a hero and a very humble human being but for him to get influenced by his dirty lawyer is just so wrong. His lawyer’s dirty tactics will eventually cost Manny the respect of his fans around the world. I dont care what shares he gets from this fight but for him to let Gacal’s greed gets into his head only means he is a puppet in his own house. I hope he wise up and get rid of the bad apple in his basket.

Manny is a legend, but he’s on drugs if he thinks Mayweather will split 50/50 or less. Mayweather will want a bigger share. If he takes on Hatton at 50/50 and wins, than he can command more from the Mayweather fight! He’ll be the draw! 60/40. He’s a dumb negotiator.

i honestly believe manny should stick this time to his conviction that it should be a 60-40 sharing of all the profits or at least a 55-45 depending on what they will agree on.for me this is not for monetary considerations anymore(manny has more than enough savings to spend a lifetime)but to fight for principles.he is the current best boxer around pound-for-pound so must see to it that he is not being shortchanged for anything.he earned and worked so hard for it and i hope that the boxing leaders and promoters are able to recognize that in all of manny’s dealings.

we all know that manny is a good guy, but the men behind him are way too greedy. The pacman camp is starting to iritate even some of the filipino people, they are starting to become one of camp who is very hard to negotiate with. When de la hoya asked for a 60/40 split favoring him, we thaought that he is way too greedy and pacman deserve a fair share. And now he is doing the same thing. As a pacman fan , we are really disappointed.

Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton

I think Manny deserves more than Ricky Hatton. He accomplished more than the British boxer whose only reputation is being able to draw huge PPV numbers in the UK. But that fact was refuted by another newspaper yesterday. It turns out Hatton’s drawing power depends on his opponent.

With regards to Mayweather, the guy is getting desperate nowadays as shown by his six million dollar debt to the US gov’t. Manny may not even fight him as he has no debts to the US govt and is basically financially secure. It is Mayweather who needs the windfall soon to payoff his debts and a desperate man is willing to accept anything including Mayweather.

I have a lot of respect and admiration for Pacman and as a fellow Fil. I’m very proud of him. My Mom was in agreement with a lot of us that believed this fuss was all about some people in Manny’s camp and not necessarily his own doing. She told me that this is typical of politics in the Phil. were some of people are just plain corrupt and dishonest. This is by no means disrespect to Filipinos but people are not dumb not to see what his lawyer was doing. I believe that Manny should get a higher percentage of the deal but a deal is a deal. This ploy is costing Team Pacquiao their fans around the world and although i honestly believed that he will get at least 55-45 deal from Hatton, his dirty lawyer will cost Manny a great deal of trouble and controversy in the future. Manny needs to get rid of him before he becomes one of them. Manny’s humble and clean heart should not get tainted by some cockroach that belongs to a sewer.
