LAGUNA has its own version of Marikina City in this quaint little town called Liliw, famous for its handmade shoes and slippers. Liliw is among a cluster of towns located at the southeastern side of Laguna and sits at the foot of mystical Mount Banahaw, partly hidden by clouds in the picture.
As mentioned in Wikipedia, Liliw has a shoe industry that can rival Marikina. There are two main streets lined with shops like these on both sides. I bought my Grandma two pairs of abaloryo slippers, with sequins and have a soft feathery feel, which I found out from her, can rarely be found elsewhere.
Like most nearby towns, Liliw is also abundant with lanzones and rambutan. A kilo of lanzones costs P40 while a kilo of rambutan costs P30 — about half the price in Manila.
This old house reminds me of old, old Tagalog films — horror movies, actually. Partly hidden in the picture is the shoe store on the left side of the stairs.
For such a small town, Liliw has a rather large church, with a large quadrangle in front. This is typical of towns and churches are long-lasting symbols of Spanish rule. The church is picturesque, with Mount Banahaw as background.

Liliw. Liliw, oh you missed this town so much especially when you are based in a place far away from your country….the all year round cool weather, pristine water flowing down your faucet and the clean surroundings. one would be really amazed to see tall edifices (ala-makati) on a such remote place..hats off to my adopted town..

Hi everyone, thanks for the kind comments.
Dondie, are you talking about Taytay Falls in Majayjay? We went there as well. Will post pictures of it somewhere and post the link here.
We also went to Pakil and Paete, they have great-looking churches as well but we got there late so I wasn’t able to take pictures.
Cheers,
Lawrence

Yes, I’ve been there also and it’s really amazing. We went to a virgin falls (i forgot the name) the water is very cold that when you put the drinks submerge even for 30 minute it’s already cold.
