Walkman on top

SONY ERICSSON recently launched three new Walkman phones which incorporate the Walkman On Top concept: the Sony Ericsson W350i, W380i, and W890i

“It’s having the Walkman interface easily accessible to the user with it being on top of the phone,” explained Vincent De la Cruz, product group marketing manager of Sony Ericsson Philippines.

“We believe there is a market that wants to put music first and foremost over the phone. Particularly a phone with the basic features, but allows people who want to enjoy their music access it easily. Always putting their music experience first,” he added.

Motorola shows off RAZR 2 V9, ROKR E8

MOTOROLA regional marketing director Mari Litonjua gives a demo of two handsets which are also excellent music players, the RAZR 2 V9 and ROKR E8. Litonjua said the ROKR E8 will be launched in the market in the middle of May.

Singapore laptop maker Axioo enters RP market

SEAGATE and Creative are the only two Singaporean IT brands that have name recall in the Philippines. However, an upstart firm wants to join its Singaporean brethren.

Axioo International is the latest OEM (original equipment manufacturer) notebook to enter the somewhat saturated laptop market. Nevertheless, the company is confident that there is a market for their product in Asia, including the Philippines.

Here’s a video interview I conducted with Axioo International managing director Stephen Lim, who talks about the Singapore-based company’s decision to launch its laptops in the Philippines.

IDF in Shanghai: New Classmate PC is coming

The new version of the Classmate PC, which will go on sale in the next two months, was rolled out in schools in China. Video shows Chinese students using the new Classmate PC in a demo during the Intel Developer Forum.

Helping kids explore: Neo launches 1st Intel-powered Netbook PC in RP

NEO recently launched its first Intel-powered Netbook PC, the Neo eXplore X-1, designed to address the need for affordable Internet-capable PCs, and to provide a “simple, practical, PC-type gadget that is also ruggedized, durable and lightweight,” said Mariel Que, business development manager of Neo.

The new gadget was specifically designed for kids as a learning tool, as well as for users who mainly need to access the Internet.

Intel Philippines country manager Ricky Banaag said “Intel and Neo are working to… develop affordable and relevant PC designs to suit local market needs. The Neo eXplore is designed for people who previously couldn’t afford to buy a PC for accessing the Internet.”

The Neo eXplore X-1 is priced at P16,999, and is powered by a 900-Mhz Intel mobile processor. It has 512MB memory, a 30-gigabyte flash drive, wifi and Ethernet connectivity, two USB 2.0 slots and SD/MMC card reader, and weighs in at only 1.4 kg. The eXplore X-1 comes with the Genuine Windows XP Starter Edition.
