Windows XP is not new to the Eee 900 12GB. The previous model (at least the 4GB version) has been available in either Windows XP or Linux versions for quite some time (though possibly not in the Philippines).

A higher resolution screen will not affect videos, except perhaps for high definition videos such as blu-ray which are not likely to play reliably on the low spec processor.

From the article: "The Eee PC prides itself for its compact design, which appeals to a lot of students, women and those who just want to have a small, robust notebook."

I'm curious as to why you stereotype women in the above sentence. Surely both women and men can benefit from a small, rubust notebook or is it particularly suitable to women because they are weaker or more clumsy?

I forgot to add that I do have an eeepc 701, running the default Linux install, that I find to be lovely, and the mandatory Wikipedia link with the correct specs

Just a clarification: the resolution in the 701 is 800x480, not 800x600. I wish it was, though ;-)

I think you have a point, the weak point of the 701 was the screensize. They should have offered a new-gen eee where the only upgrade is the screen, maybe an 8Gb ssd, and keep close to the previous price point (USD400) IMHO. Other, higher scale models are welcome, but there is nothing like a $400 notebook ;-)

As a college student, computer tech and enthusiast, and as 17-year-old on a budget. The new 900 EEE sounds great to me. I'm an avid PC/Linux user, and I've used the 4g 700 EEE PC and it was a good deal for under 500 with the linux distro built in. I'm glad there's a larger screen as well. It's small, compact, and good for the dollar.
I hope to purchase one soon.
I'm thinking of installing the newly release Ubuntu hardy Heron 8.04 and I have a spare 2gb DDR2 chip around to max out the memory.
If not the hardy heron distro, I'll prolly install or run a Live USB FD edition of Fedora 8, or since tomorrow it will finally be released... Fedora 9!
