AS a kid who grew up in the Philippines, I never had a Filipino idol. I guess you can blame that one on too much Americanization.
My childhood heroes back then were GI Joe and [the Teenage Mutant] Ninja Turtles. As a teenager, my idols became WWF [World Wrestling Federation, now known as World Wrestling Entertainment] wrestlers.
Now that I am a 21-year-old young adult, I am very proud to say that I finally have an idol in life who is Filipino like me in the name of Manny Pacquiao.

To have an idol is good. But did you noticed something. Prominent politicos rides on Manny popularity? This is because pinoy like boxing very much so they thought of parading him all around the city with them. Of course their faces will be all over the newspapers and television.
Hope they do this to academics performers too so that our kids would idolized good people with excellent academic performance. A more science incline country is better than more boxing inclined, would you think?

Manny WAS my idol before, but now, after running as a ” Tongressman ‘ and lost–knocked out agad!!– nawalan ako ng respeto sa kanya. manny, be a boxer na lang, or stop this profession, ma-kuwarta ka na naman , di ba?? Dont be a suker by running as a government official , for one, ANONG GAGAWIN MO DOON ?? MANNY…..THINK…HUWAG KANG ADALA S MGA NANGU-UTO SA IYO…SAYANG KA, MANNY!!

manny pacquiao might, in his possession, have the pambansang kamao to brag about. but the same thing cannot be said about his brain! when he decided to run for congress, that’s when my greatest fear about the man was confirmed - he is dumb! don’t get me wrong. he is a great boxer. and you don’t resort to shortcuts to become one. but he took the easy road to get his high school diploma when even the smartest of us all has to do 4. now he wants to become a congressman - and maybe hang out with the multitudes of crooks in barong tagalog that thinks he is cool. but even to become one of the crooks in government requires hard work. even talent. or genius. there are no shortcuts to what you want to be in life. everything is a process. and that is one thing his faculties cannot have a grasp on! now get out your reyes gloves and knock somebody silly!!!

Indeed Manny is a great boxing idol, I was proud of him when he did finished the bout with Morales, kahit duguan tinapos ang laban na hindi lumuhod sa kalaban.
IMHO, Manny as a congressman is not a good idea for Gensan folks and the country. I could not imagine how he would do his speeches and interpellations, worst how will he begin to draft a law. Ok yung pangarap ni Manny kaso paano naman ang mga pangarap ng 80 milyong pilipino…

Hello Inquirer Bloggers,
With regard to this issue, I really like Manny because he brought this country the fame it deserves in the boxing arena. However, being in politics, I don’t like the idea.
As for the comment on he cannot be corrupt because he is already rich, I really doubt that. Didn’t you noticed hat most of our politicians are already wealthy before they become “public servants”? I mean they would spend millions of pesos to have earn a 30k-50k (I think this is the presidents salary) salary a month?
The main reason on why they would run is “Greed”. That’s the reason why most people go abroad. And I don’t think this will change. That’s life here. Tragic.
