THE PHILIPPINES is the only country I know that signs up controversial actors to be their product endorsers like Kris Aquino, Ruffa Gutierrez, Gretchen Barretto and Annabelle Rama.
When you are getting celebrities as endorsers, credibility should be taken into consideration. They should be scandal-free at least to entice their consumers to buy their products.
Just like what happened to Kate Moss — her products were pulled out after she was involved with drugs. I think the country should do the same.

What can you say to a country that idolizes people with power, money and good looks regardless of character? Look around folks, everything in the Philippines are about material things (yumaman at magkaroon, regardless) and fame (kung sinong sikat). And they don’t worry because AMNESTY and PARDON is always available.

I agree, here in this side of the world, credibility isn’t important. What matters most is what glitters and what pleases the majority. Not to mention the fact that many of us have short memories. So unless we go beyond the looks, this trend will last for a long time. On the other hand, we the consumers possess the power: if we stop buying the things that they endorse, they will take notice and get the message.

This is in reaction to your comments on controversial endorsers. The very recent conclusion of PBB just shows how low our people have gone down. Endemol’s glorification of licensed voyeurism is a clear example of it. Let us put civility back to its proper perspective. “Ang pagpakatotoo” doesnt mean doing what we feel like doing without regard to the sensibilities of others and claiming that one is just being truthful to oneself. If MTCRB really wants to be a real watchdog, it should ban reality TV shows that put emphasis on people intervening in other people’s lives in the name of a newsworthy topic.Let us not misconstrue concern for others as a trait that we should be proud of. Pakikialam should be the more appropriate thing for Filipinos who engage in this everyday!

also, you’ll have to admit that it is only in the philippines where “controversial” endorsers’ controversial ways are “glorified” and “protected” regardless of the weight of their “sins” - one’s measured by their popularity and money in the bank. i pity the common filipino who work so hard to earn their dime - the laws are designed for them to abide to while a different set of laws seem to cater for the popular and wealthy filipinos. there’s no true justice to the regular “juan dela cruz” … phew!

It’s because the Philippines has a damaged culture although it will not admit it. The Filipino is so beaten to the ground and desperate that it will give up anything to alleviate the hardship….just take for example ABS-CBN…with Kris Aquino, Ruffa, Boy Abunda and the likes…all this are signs of being desperate albeit in a corporate level…..so pathetic

Agreed for what should be the requirements of product endorser, they should be free from scandal,,etc… WHAT ABOUT THE REQUIREMENTS OF BEING AN ANCHORWOMAN(MAN) OR TV HOST(ESS), A LEADING STATION REQUIRES: MARRIED (WITH MULTIPLE SPOUSE), WITH PENDING COURT CASES, SINGLE (PREF. GAY), they don’t care what’s the effect on our children who watched their program worldwide…

Another “good” example is Paquiao. He is probably the only “sports idol” wo0rldwide that endorses and promotes drinking alcohol. But as mentioned already in many reports, Pacman does not much care how and from where he can make money. Maybe that was also the reason of the reported 20 gun licenses for bodyguards during campaign, when most other people rather got their licenses cancelled. Nowhere else in the world is serious sport linked to drinking and smoking.

The ship we call the Philippines has sunk. I would love to be optimistic but there’s no one in the horizon who can bring inspired leadership.
I was a balikbayan last year and it was really sad to see how our kababayans are so consumed by popularity and trends that corrupts our youth and even our so called young urban professionals.
Gen X is now gen text! Pinoys were even so creative in spinning scandals and giving it a more sexual flavor (it seems every town, city, school and personality has a sex scandal), sad thing about it is the fact that these are very popular with the people. Perversion is indeed the new poison of choice.
