Reader says Clark DMIA airport not passenger-friendly

I WOULD like to echo many friends of mine who have gone through Clark and have been vocal and embarrassed by the poor services in Clark's [Diosdado Macapagal International] Airport. It reflects on the country as well. The airport is not passenger-friendly. Transportation is also limited. There is no orderliness. You get to suspect that the management of the airport is devoting more time pondering the cuts and commissions that can be derived from the various contracts and deals than putting more time on how to improve airport services. Pathetic. -- Paul Pilapil, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong (via e-mail)

Pathetic indeed, Paul. As a Hkg resident like you everytime I go to HK airport, I can't help but compare it with our airports in the Philippines. Esp. NAIA which is supposed to be the gateway to our country. HK airport arrival area alone is already the size of our Centennial airport check in counter and pre departure area combined! When one is travelling during holidays, the situation in the check in counter and pre-departure area looks more like a provincial bus station than an international airport. Most of our airports are really not-passenger friendly. We are the only airport in the world that charges P30 per person in the old NAIA arrival area. You pay P30 but you feel like being caged while craning your neck out to check that you hadn't missed your arriving friend or kin. The situation here is worst than a provincial bus station - where at least you can take a seat while waiting for your ride. Meanwhile opening of NAIA 3 to ease up passenger congestion is still a big question mark. I am not surprised that inspite of our country's natural beauty and resources we are trailing behind in the tourism industry in the whole of SE Asia. That really is pathetic.

paul pilapil has to realize that he is not the only one that the airport employees are dealing with. i have fly and landed at clark DMIA many times and i did not see any untoward inccident paul is complaining about. there is an orderliness at DMIA. in fact they even give priorities to senior passengers and parents with children to board the plane before others. the problem is, other passengers are cutting into the line to go ahead of the seniors and children. filipinos does'nt like to follow rule and regulations. so don't blame the airport employees just because people don't want to follow orders.

I agree with Paul. Clark as an international airport should at least make a good impression. True, flights from Clark are cheap but I believe quality of service should never be compromised.

yes it is not freindly this airport what a shamed

You just deserve what you pay for. Terminal fee at Clark is much cheaper than NAIA, and the airlines that land there are mostly budget airlines.

I have flown through Clark several times, to and from Macau, HK, Singapore and Malaysia.

It is obviously new, and still not at full service. But I think it is adequate.

If you want full service, pay for it and use the other airports. As of the moment, Clark is very adequate as alternative, budget airport. I will be using it soon to fly to KL.

Cheers!

airports welcome all our guests and gives the first and last impression of our country

improve it as well as the service.
i've already been to 5 airports in Asia and our airports so many steps behind even in basic facilities :(

I blog about the good things to promote our country but Filipinos don't always do their part

Hello everyone! Let us hope that your criticisms have been noted by the airport officials for better services in the future. There is always a change for the better. Let all the critiques come forward and let the airport management do their job. Mabuhay tayong lahat at mag tulungan naman tayo. Discipline to ourself is the only answer to all unfavorable remarks!

I found your website after I have been surfing the internet to be useful
