Quantcast VIP treatment for OFWs - Vox Populi

VIP treatment for OFWs

WE are really happy for the OFWs who get VIP treatment at the NAIA [Ninoy Aquino International Airport]. President [Gloria Macapagal-]Arroyo was there to welcome them, shake hands with them, and distribute raffle prizes. How lucky of them! I can't help feeling envious of the "red carpet treatment"! Like the OFWs, there is another group working hard abroad to be able to remit millions and millions of Japanese yen to their families and friends in this country. They are the Filipino-Japanese descendants. Although unlike the OFWs, the government of Japan generously allowed the descendants to enjoy residence visas in their country, thus ensuring the same rights and privileges as Japanese nationals. While no less than the President is giving credit for the invaluable contribution of overseas workers to the economy of our country by giving them VIP treatment, one government office here in Davao City is treating Japanese descendants differently, a stark contrast to the gesture of President Arroyo :) -- James Tanaka, Davao City (via e-mail)

It would be great if VIP treatment will be extended not only at NAIA, but OFW's and those outside the Phils. must be given special discount to all establishment (like the senior citizen) if the govt is really treating us the new heroes of these generation.. God bless po sa lahat esp for OFW's and those who are in Japan

They should have done that a long time ago. And the preseident should act on those Immigration Officers who is taking advantage of those pinoys going abroad. you don't know what? They ask for money or else they wont get on the plane. Please Mrs. President act on this. Tooooo embarrasing.

James, could you be more specific? What is that different treatment and which govenrment office is that?

How about us Filipinos in America; A lot of us sends our hard earned US dollars to all folks back home, aren't we suppose to get a share of the pie as well.
The US Filipinos or Philippine-American descent are almost surpise that we were not welcomed the same treatment.
Sad, were the most OFW sending these dollars to the country.

VIP treatment for OFW's?
What an useless nonsense. Stop pushing the Peso far above its real value and OFW's will feel much better treated because their families would not suffer the extreme loss of income. From near 56 down to 45 per Dollar is a loss of about 20% on remittance while all goods, even those imported on the now much lower Dollar increase day for day. I know a lot of OFW's abroad who are heading for not to remit Dollars anymore but send Pesos or other foreign currencies instead. They all feel used for creating cheap Dollars to the government to repay loans at their families expenses. If an OFW remits 500 Dollar a month, it has been already more than 27000 Pesos while the family now has onlt less than 23000 while all prices have been gone up. Such loss can notbe eliminated if the visiting OFW has a VIP treatment at NAIA.
