Stopping doctors from leaving

VERY nice of Dr. Duque to say the government can stop doctors from leaving; they can and they will. But can they also guarantee that we will earn a decent living and not end up in jail because of debts?

Does he have any doctor-relative who is starting up? Do they care about the social condition of doctors? I’ve been a doctor for more than 10 years, and I am living like a daily wage earner and have debt up to my neck and I have not paid back my parents for the tuition they’ve paid.

All the more that we’ll lack doctors because no parent would want to send their children to med school once they do that. Hostaging doctors is not the solution. Cut your salary and improve the salary of start-up doctors; maybe then we won’t be tempted to leave.

Give us a better reason to stay and don’t blame us for wanting to have better lives.

    hello colleagues,
My opinion regarding doctors stoppage to work abroad by Mr. Duque is grab any opportunity while working in the Phil. I am a part time physician in one of the rural provinces in the visayas, part time farmer of pechay, part time businessman (suka vendor) and part time family man. Philippines is the land of milk and honey but never a country of equal opportunity. So watch out next year, I’l be exporting my pechay and suka to my friends in US.

It’s sad that it had to come to this (forcing doctors to stay). But perhaps we could make a good spin out of this.

The whole idea of the Philippines being a factory for professional and skilled workers should be exploited some more. Bring it to the next level ba.

I mean this is a niche market, no other country openly pimp their citizens to go find work outside of their own.

Perhaps we should restructure our whole educational system around this niche concept. Say institute internship periods before being shipped out like what I heard they were doing to the nurses and other medical folks.

At least its a win-win situation. The people left behind gets free medical help at the same time the newly licensed doctors get the experience they need. Walang samaan ng loob. If you look at it from business point of view it does make sense.

Stopping doctors from leaving? It depends…
I think the government can LIMIT the exodus of doctors to those who graduated from public universities or to those who got government assistance. The government can only allow them to leave the country once the government is paid in terms of service or cash.
Its all about money!!!I believe that most OFW has the noblest intentions for going abroad and some to pay for their “high flying” lifestyle.Doctors in the Philippines is much better off than nurses, laborers, police, teachers and even lawyers.Besides most doctors came from well to do families(you can not go to med school if your poor unless your a scholar.)If our doctors really struggling financially,I havent seen them in the desserts of the middleast,in London,in Singapore (just a few but as doctors).Remember Latrell Sprewell…turned down a $20mil contract because he has “a family to feed”.
