GMA and US businessmen

IF everything about the Philippine economy is as rosy as President GMA paints it (and as gushed over by American businessmen), why do polls consistently reveal that one out of every three Filipinos wants to leave the Philippines?

And why does a recent study reveal that 30 percent of Filipino families “go hungry”?

I believe in GMA! Her economic agenda. If Filipinos want to get out, then BACK OFF. I mean get out of the country if you like.

DON’T WORRY THERE IS LOTS OF FILIPINO PEOPLE ARE LEAVING. SALINA

I agree with somebody that for the Philippines to become an industrial miracle, it will not happen overnight.
    ****************************
THIS I AGREE WITH YOU 100% BUT THAT WELL NEVER HAPPEN IN A MILLION YEARS! BECAUSE THE PHILIPPINES ECONOMY IS BASE ON LIES! IF THE PHILIPPINES ECONOMY IS ROSY LIKE GLORIA WERE SAYING WHY IS IT THERE IS MORE AND MORE FILIPINO PEOPLE ARE STARVING. MOST OF THEM CAN’T HARDLY EAT NOT EVEN 1XA DAY. SALINA

GMA is doing her best to revive the economy. Do you think in a country of 85 million people, she can satisfy them one by one? What better way than to improve the lives of Filipinos by making sure the economy is stable and at par with the world? Just think. A strong economy equals more jobs! I hope everyone realizes this mathematical equation.
    **************************
THIS I DON’T AGREE WITH YOU, BECAUSE MOST OF FILIPINO PEOPLE ARE WORKING OVERSEAS. IF IS NOT FROM THE OFW THE PHILIPPINES ECONOMY ALREADY WENT DOWN THE DRAIN AND YOU KNOW IT. SALINA
    *******************************
For those of you who think our President is a folly, think again. You might just want to BACK OFF! Why Filipinos go abroad? Well that’s their personal decision. I love the Philippines but at the same time I, too have ambitions of going abroad. Right now, we engineers might have some of the lowest salaries, but I believe that in one way or another, our lives could have been worse without GMA.
    ***************************
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA…..IF YOU REALLY BELIEVE THAT THE PHILIPPINES CAN’T SURVIVE WITHOUT THE BUGOS PRESIDENT OF CEBU. YOU BETTER THINK AGAIN. THE PHILIPPINES IS BETTER OFF WITHOUT MRS. PIDAL’S/COMPANY. THE REASON THERE IS PLENTY OF FILIPINO PEOPLE LEAVING EVERYDAY TO FIND WORK IN OTHER COUNTRY BECAUSE THERE IS NOT ENOUGH WORK AVAILABLE IN THE PHILIPPINES. ONLY A FEW PEOPLE HAD JOB. SALINA
    *****************************
All it takes is a little patience. If Philippines will be a First world by 2020, then it will. Let the President do her job, the senate do their inquiries and the supreme court justices hand out their verdict. For those in the streets, you’d all do better to make creative ways and means for your country than wave banners of disgust.
    ****************************
PATIENCE MY ASS! WHEN THE TIME 2020 COME MOST OF FILIPINO PEOPLE ARE ALREADY DEAD OF HUNGER. WHILE THE BUGOS PRESIDENT/COMPANY ARE LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK. SALINA

Pinoy leaving 3 out of 10 may be unusual but is it really? What about other countries, how is it? Unusual or not, the fact is, it is not really because of GMA alone. It is because of the whole situations. GMA is just one. There are the Senators, the Congressmen, the Church, the Media and us the people who are all responsible for where we are now. No exception. This makes our young wanted to leave and those who can are leaving. Corruption? All of the above are involve. Just being curious, what so important of the opinion of Rebel soldiers? Are people who are accused of wrong-doing now a good model for all of us especially for our children? In a way that is corruption for you.

Pipol, kung ayaw nyo dito, no one is forcing you to stay. Go… and stop grumbling. Puro kayo reklamo. Are you doing your part? Do you pay your taxes honestly?

Aber, subukan mo nga mang-angas at magtigastigasn dun?

Yung nakatira sa lansangan at basurahan with 12 kids? Not everything is for free. You have to work hard. Be practical. Kahit saan naman ganun a.

At yung batang nasa lansangan, libreng edukasyon na nga hindi pa pinagtyatyagan. Kahit pa mababa ang kalidad dapat nag-aral kesa wala. Pero ano? Puro barkada at drugs inaatupag.

1 or 2 lang anak or wala. Di nadodroga at walang bisyo. Walang time magbarkada dahil kailangan nya yung oras sa trabaho.

Open your eyes and look around you. Naglolokohan lang kayo e.

    Perla,

    Good questions…

    Better life through higher income…

…that is the aspiration of many of those who strive to have a job overseas. This economy upturn we are seeing now will not reach everybody pockets just soon and in fact worst for OFW’s and affects most those who strive to have a meal daily. Peso is stronger for 7 year record but cost of living too goes up.

Everybody, specially the government side do the calculations and make proud announcements too fast that the ordinary people doesn’t understand.

Think about a high skilled welder in the US that may receive more than $240/day in excess of 40-hours work week. Just working for 2-days overtime, that is more than the pay-check of a skilled worker here for a full month. A lot of them receive even less take home pay. Even the guy here receives $500/month, do you think it is enough if his wife stays at home and 4-kids?

We pay more for our cellphone air time, pay more on our water, electricty, gasoline… so the only solution for us to do is to use less, much less which everybody may not able to do. The worst would be the food on the table as it becomes less and less even though those people in the government and market speculators says the peso is the best performers in Asia. The best advise I heard would be plant kamote in your backyard. That is good if you have one but just imagine those who live under the bridges in the crowded cities.

To the poor people who are unable to read up to date newspaper and only hear the news from numerous radio commentators, that Filipinos are getting richer, doesn’t make sense.

Farmers- bigtime farmers are making money for producing food. But how many of them around. An average farmer maybe tilling one hectare or less but perhaps the land is own by a Doctor or an Engineer (land reform failed in this country) working in the city. The poor farmer is leasing the farm giving the owner 30% of the harvest. The poor farmer has been selling his palay for less than 10 peso per kilogram of which has not change much to keep up with his expenses over the years. If you look closer, a hectare, with “tired” soil, bad weather, and pests season, will yield about 80 sacks at 50kg each. That would be 4000kg x 10peso = P40,000 ($889). The harvest will not be done after 3-months and pour more hard-work before even get the last palay in the last sack manually.

If he is lucky to find a work in the town area during the 3-month period, he will labor for P200/day (8-hours) in a construction job. That is less than a guy in the US making for an hourly job as a helper.

So what Kleomario suggested that you come over to see for yourself what is going on is a good idea. The situation is so complicated that no President (even assuming with political will, honest, strong, intelligent) would even think about able to solve 1% of the problems within his or her 6-year term. The guy who seats on that chair is confronted with crimes, jobless, opportunists, communism, business and political lobbiests, inflation, over population, environment, terrorism and worst politicking etc..

Even the US has its own similar problem. There are people who are lazy to work and peddle for money too. But the good thing is if you know what is hard-work all about, US, Europe and other affluent countries will reward anybody. That may have included you too.

For the third world as many bureauacrats are saying, that includes part of the Philippines, one has to strive 10-100 times over to equal counterparts on rich countries assuming there is that fire and will on one’s mind to succeed. I forget about luck that will help you go through numerous snakes and blood suckers.

The pie for everybody in the world is getting smaller. But there are few of those who are already on top of the food chain that continue to amass wealth as fast as many people consume the world resources. If these less than 3% of the world population that controls more than 50% of the world’s wealth or economy doesn’t really reach out to those already left out by we so called progress, then we are all bound to be doomed in the end.

    Cheers….

If you want to know the answers to your questions, then come back home (if you are born here) and see & FEEL for yourself the real situation plaguing the whole country. I think it’s better that way than to posts comments that will not get into the consciousness of Filipinos living abroad.
