WITH the reported attempt to plant evidence at Glorietta, to my mind the piece is beginning to take shape.
Whatever event that occurs in our beloved country, whether it is accident or planned, conspirators immediately take that opportunity to sow chaos and discord. Just hours after the blast, Senator Trillanes issued statements blaming the administration even without any shred of evidence. Other senators like Pimentel and Lacson issued leading statements. Others used the media to ventilate their biased ideas on this serious matter.
One thing is sure, it is my impression that some Filipinos are already losing their genuine sense of patriotism. Even trivial misdemeanors done by administration officials, military and the police will surely land in the headlines, thanks to the selfish commercialism which abounds in some media outfits. Whatever mistakes President Arroyo has done, still she is our leader. No matter all the political noise and accusations to the contrary, divine providence wills President Arroyo to serve as our leader.
We Filipinos should learn to be pragmatic. Let us live with the times and make the most of it by being constructive. Let us leave the past behind and follow whatever vision we are supposed to follow.
The vision is for the Philippines to eradicate poverty through economic development. We need to put up more factories preferably heavy industries to generate employment. That era of recriminations since the time we toppled the dictatorship has already served its purpose. Instead of being a productive tool to correct deviant rules, people power is evolving to be a curse to our struggling nation. Our aspiring politicians seem to be in a hurry and impatient to assume power. They can’t wait for the next election. Why?
At this point, if former president Estrada is sincere in his application for presidential pardon, he should not attach conditionalities. The same
with the family of former president Marcos. All of them should show remorse. If they really are innocent, I’m sure God has already forgiven them. Admittedly, human justice grinds very slowly. Human verdict is an historical epitaph. In our lifetime, true justice is really elusive.
We Filipinos should know that if we persist in this kind of fault findings and obsession to count all the past mistakes of others, our society will surely go to the brink. We show to the whole world that we are a society practicing sadomasochism. We fervently love to inflict senseless wounds on our own country and relish seeing our fellow countrymen suffer needlessly. This is the right recipe for national suicide.
If formerly poor countries like South Korea, China, Malaysia, etc. have risen from the abyss of poverty, why can’t the Philippines do the same? The only thing that will let this country move forward is national unity and healing. Everybody should subordinate his/her personal interests to the national interest.

this government continues to exist because we do nothing: do not look to our so called leaders for guidance: we only need to look to ourselves and ask: is this what we want to leave to our children? a society of meek and cowed people who exists to provide for those “things” in the government? are we so cowardly that we do nothing, a government is supposed to exist for the people and is supposed to be servants of the people.. not the other way around..

Your commentary is an excellent study of blind faith and misguided principle.
The moral bancruptcy of those leaders in the Philippine government should be first and foremost in your mind before using the word Divine Providence. God has nothing to do with all the evils that surrounds you now.
Whatever situation our country is in today is brought about by the very smart people advising GMA. Her damage controller and numerous shock absorbers deflecting fatal missteps are shining tributes to their accomplishments which keeps her afloat while all of you are languishing in despair.
With too much regrets, the Filipinos alone must bear the responsilities and therefore the consequences of your action or inaction, eg: GMA et al.
Comparing the Philippines to other countries is counter productive. The poorest one today will be ahead of us tomorrow not because they are better equipt to face the future, but because their people have the will to change for a better life.
Do not leave everything in the hands of the Divine Provider. He provides us with everything. Just look around you. Plenty may be in Gloria’s and her smart advisers hands, but you and all the Filipinos can have some too if you have the moral courage and integrity for change. If you do, begin with yourself then continue with your neghbors ad infinitum.
The fathers of USA penned these words: Vigilance is the price for liberty. These words still rings true today. It is such an inexpensive price for freedom and yet it is exactly what GMA’s advisers are using on you. They are vigilant and they have more and they are free! And you? You are blind!

Si Romulo Vitor, magaling lang mag-englis pero mahina sa analysis. At anong Divine Providence na pinagsasabi mo. Baka di mo alam ang ibig sabihin nyan wag mo na lang gamitin. Anong pruweba mo?

Nakakalungkot naman ang nangyayari sa ting bayan. After the tragedy, we still see the same “pinoy” style of paninisi. As a filipino living abroad, I am trying my best to convey positive news about our country. But even though I still believe on my perception that our country has gone into tremendous changes since EDSA 1, to most people from this part of the world (who have not been to our country, and have no intention of visiting anyway), they still cannot believe that we have actually progressed. Why, because some of our media (and fellow filipinos) love the many “patriotic acting” of our politicians and banner it to the whole world. Perception is so important. Negative perception truly ruin our “supposed growth”. Because of negative perception, we lose the true sight of progress we have actually gained. Let’s give credit to GMA (& Cory and FVR), they each have their share of worthy decisions that moved our country forward. Let’s open our eyes to the positive things that happened to our country after the Marcos era.
The “bombing incident” should unite us and not break us. We should instead help our government in fighting these “evil groups”.
Sa mga kapwa pinoy sa pilipinas o saan mang lupalop ng mundo, let us all pray for our country and do our share.
