Reader reacts to ‘Bishops want Puno at helm’

EDSA II was a mistake. What guarantee there is that Puno or anyone else will not be like or worse than this one?

Correcting it with another will not make it right anytime. Even if they succeed in their plans, there is an election in 2010. Patience would be a virtue instead of haste.

Is governance now part of the bishops’ temporal responsibility? Look at the wholesale moral decay we are in now — is morality not their major temporal responsibility? They failed miserably yet they want to take more responsibility. Their effort will be more productive if they work hard at uplifting the moral standards of those who are coming after this morally bankrupt generation.

Unless they are planning to run for public office, grandstanding is not the way to go but to lead in humility as exemplified by Jesus.

    I agree with you Alfredo. These bishops have been interfering in purely state affairs. They cannot even clean their own backyard but still they have the gall to criticize. And look! Isn’t one of these bishops is a coddler of fugitives from the law? Remember how his rest house was used to hide members of the Magdalo group? No wonder, the Catholic is losing much of its membership to other Christian denominations simply because their official hierarchy is doing nothing about their pastoral responsibilities but rather enjoy the limelight that political interference gives them. Whewww…… Erap is right after all. These bishops have no business in politics.
    ++++++++
    Of course Erap, Was right. His a better person then the rest of them put it together.

    Its hard to believe these people haven’t learn their lesson yet when they install Gloria Arroyo, From her stolen power.
    They were saying she can do a better job its because she had a doctorate degree in economic. Ha, Ha. She turn out to be the biggest failure!

    And what make them think Puno, Can do a better job, When we all know in fact that his one of these evil society! Nothing good will happen to all of these. They’re kicken out the biggest LEMON and replace it with the biggest one.

    If they didn’t kick the duly elected President Joseph Estrada, This problem never happen. The should let the impeachment trial to be finish so that the whole truth will come out. But, They’re in a hurry to replace him even though they don’t have any solid evidence against him. In fact its been proven in court of law; That Erap, Is not guilty of any wrong doing. The only reason the convict him because that is the only way they can protect Gloria Arroyo, From her stolen power! If this is not a corrupt justice system, I don’t know what is.

    Political oppositions are stepping up campaigns for GMA to step down and for a snap election to be held within 60 days. Some have included constitutional amendments to their demand of resignation. Will they prosper?

    I had a copy of “Hello Garci” CD. It was the version that included conversations attributed to Garci and some senatorial candidates. A neighbor employed in a law firm which handled Legal matters for one Senator who made the exposé, passed it to me.

    I agree that Hello Garci is not about good governance and democracy. It’s about commission of election fraud.

    A national election costs billions of pesos. Cost of election is not an issue except that the political system, for no cost, can very well take care of itself:

    • Assuming that the President resigns there is the Vice President next in line followed by the Senate President who is not without successors down the line;
    • Assuming that there was election fraud in 2004, it did not directly implicate VP Noli de Castro thus making his case very debatable, like he has the right to ask for a recount that everyone knows may take almost forever. And this is moot as Senator Legarda, the contender, has already withdrawn her 2004 election protest;
    • The National election of May 2007 was an expression of 80 million Filipinos. It gave Senator Manny Villar clear, unquestionable mandate and I don’t remember any impeachable issue was ever leveled at him at any time in his career. Why should he be made to resign too?

    I agree impeachment does not work. Impeachment may even be used to oust an honest President for the same reason that it does not work.I think this safeguard is good only in places where national leadership is among people of high degree of self-consciousness. To make it work, maybe the oppositions should resort to Payola double the amount like that exhibited by Governor Panlilio from Malacañang . But then again this will make the system not only half rotten but entirely rotten.

    I believe the call for the President, the Vice President and the Senate President to step down and for a snap election is incomprehensible to many Filipinos.

    It seems, sila-sila na lang na kumakalampag ang naka i-intiende nito. Napakasabog ng mga issue para maunawa-an ng mga ordinaryong mamayan, o ng mga un-attached Meron katulad ko.

    I really find amusing that we always find the word corruption and bribery in a day to day life of filipinos.

    It is the staple word aside from the staple food that is rice. Because in breakfast, lunch and dinner, the word corruption always in the menu and utter as we put our food in our mouth.

    As the word corruption is in everyday life of filipinos, it becomes meaningless, it becomes useless.
    So, if a politician is charged of corruption,ex GMA, then it is normal, meaning it is only a talk, a gossip much more a rumor.

    I think filipinos particularly our politicians should be careful not to abuse the word corruption or bribery. As the word is constantly used it becomes a byword with no value.

    What I like in america is… people are so careful not to use language or word that is harsh and offensive and once they use the right word, it has value and meaning.

    In the Philippines, corruption is everyday word that has lost its meaning and value…. you know why? with so many accusations only Erap was unlucky.
